Its so fun watching this while impatiently waiting for Onyx Storm to come out knowing all the information from Iron Flame and listening to your theories.
I just have to say it because yall will understand me! hahahah Every time Violet felt the tingling on her neck when Xaden was around I just pictured Xaden's shadows touching her. In a way they were doing what he wanted to do all along. I've read theories that its because he's reading her mind, but no. Its just his shadows being infatuated with her as much as he is!
ALSO ON THE PARAPET: During that whole scene with Xaden and Violet sizing each other up, don't forget that when Rhiannon interrupts the two and Xaden asks if they're friends, Violet says that they met on the stairwell. He looks between them, notices the boots, says "Interesting," and his clenched fists relax. I think at that point he maybe thinks she's more like Brennan than her mom, but the jury is definitely still out.
After re-reading my theory about the storm during parapet is that Lilith is worried for violets life and so her emotions are the ones creating the storm, you do see in the book moments where emotions have controlled signets, like when Jack tries to kill Liam and violets signet appears and her moments with Xaden. I think after losing a child already, or thinking she did, and knowing violet is ill maybe Lilith is accidentally making the storm out of worry. I think she’s somehow watching the challenge and what’s going on because the storm starts as violets turn on the parapet comes up and it ends after her confrontation with Jack at the other side. This could be kinda far detached but that’s just what I got from it:)
I’m Re reading fourth wing and iron flame to prep for JANUARY AHHH. And, as part of my mini book club with a friend, we’re reading the book one month, then listening to FFG coverage of it the next month! I have already to listened to all of y’all’s ACOTAR coverage and just love you both. Thank you. Being able to book club the empyrean series this way is making is so much fucking fun!!! I LOVED this first episode. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have EDS and I've never related to a character so much in my life. Like I feel like someone actually understands me. Like I cry everytime I see this book bc I related to it so much. It makes me believe that I'm so much more capable and so much stronger than I know
I’m here listening to this on the day that book 3’s name was announced and I can’t believe how many of your theories came true in Iron Flame!! You guys could definitely outrun General Melgren!!!
I’m treating this like a book club and I love it! Recently finished Iron Flame and coming back to reread both books to look for alllllll the hints. Just finished these chapters and gunna get your thoughts! So exciting!
This podcast is EVERYTHING I needed after finishing the emotional turmoil that was Fourth Wing! Thank you ladies for this, I'm having a blast watching and learning things I missed during my first read!
16:06 Liam had asked Violet what scribes were into (page 511) prior to the Reunification Day celebration so I definitely think it was Jesinia he was with prior to the war games!
After rereading many times. I believe Lillith is not evil. She knows where Vi needs to be and is secretly (i hope) is apart of the rebellion. I think Mira knew to have boots made for Vi because it always rains when her kids cross parapet. So Brennan warned Mira and Mira warned Vi.
The more we talk about her, the more we are CONVINCED that Lilith is going to be a Severus Snape-like character but we haven't thought of her secretly being part of the rebellion! LOVE that plot twist!
Oooh some foreshadowing I just thought of when you mentioned the quote “Even temples can be rebuilt, but books cannot be rewritten”. Temples like the Temple of Amari being rebuilt like we find out at the end of the book.
no book is curing my fourth wing hangover (even acotar…trying to read the first one now so ty for the acotar spoiler alert I was able to skip) but THIS PODCAST is the only thing actually helping with my hangover ❤❤
I think the storm might have been just a foreshadow for her signet due to the comment on how she finds storms comforting. Cant wait for the next episode!
Also unfortunately Rebecca vetoed the idea that xaden was in love with violet because of Brennen. I think its valid but if the author doesn't.....its sad. it made so much sense. @@fantasyfangirls
Ok I just randomly came across your video on the Xaden bonus chapters in my binge of All Things Fourth Wing -- just read Fourth Wing a month ago and because I borrowed these from the library, had to wait what I thought was going to be 10 weeks for Iron Flame but ended up getting a "skip the line" copy early and binged it last week in about 2-3 days. After the Xaden video YT auto played this video and I had to stop everything I was doing and look you up on my podcast app. I am STRAPPED in and so excited you guys started this!! I really started to get into podcasts because of Binge Mode dissecting all of GoT and Harry Potter and it was SOOO good. I have missed that podcast since it ended and never thought I'd find another good book/fantast dissect pod. LOVE your energy and the sister chemistry and I know I'm going to enjoy this so much. I haven't been this excited about reading books in many years and these books absolutely kickstarted my reading passion and I've now finished two more novels but I simply cannot stop thinking about Fourth Wing. Like you guys, I rated this (and Iron Flame) 4 stars, it's not without its problems, but I don't know when or if this FW/IF hangover will ever cease, so once again, VERY happy you guys started this pod, can't wait to listen to every episode
P.S. I loathed ACOTAR with every fiber of my being, but heard I was supposed to continue and the later books are better. I am _skeptically_ going to follow that advice, but I am open to other candy fantasy books that people suggest, because... woof this hangover

a) I totally agree the last book of Divergent does not exist. That ending still makes me angry. b) I do not like Dain. BUT, you do have to remember they have been friends since Violet was 5. How many injuries has he nursed her through? How many times did he get yelled at for not protecting her? How much pain has he seen her deal with? Also, he just went through his first year, all that death, all those injuries. That would color anyone's perception. And yes, Mira was there, but she is 5 years older. And it is different if you are the older sister versus the friend and as sexist as this is especially the friend who is a boy whose father is in the military. c) THANK YOU!!!! This is wonderful. I loved every minute of this podcast. d)Just because Violet knew that the rebellion kids were marked does not mean she knew what those marks looked like. Xaden is the oldest rebellion child and most of them are kept in Tyrrendor. It is not like she would have seen them at the store daily.
It’s been a couple of months since I read the fourth wing series and been thinking about re-reading/listening to them and decided to watch your podcast and barely 7:28 minutes in my Ming has been blown! How did I not know Xaden is a person of color?! How did I miss this?! So glad to see that!!!
It was funny watching this after finishing Iron Flame and knowing now that Xaden does in fact have a second signet. It may not be mind reading, but close enough 😅 I'm currently watching your ACOTAR podcasts and decided to back track to your FW/IF podcasts while I patiently wait for Monday!
Okay but i honestly LOVED that Tris died at the end of Divergent because it was so heart wrenching. I was furious when i saw that they changed the ending of the movie. But i love the idea that Violet helps to write the true history of the events taking place.

Absolutely loving your podcast! I hail from TikTok as your context hooked me in! I only want to add that Rebecca also included Deaf Culture representation as well, amongst the copious scrumptious inclusion of all others you mentioned! :) love y’all can’t wait to keep watching your videos!
Yay so happy you found us! And YES! We talk a lot more about Jesinia and this representation in later episodes. (Holy moly you'd be surprised how many feathers we ruffled by our "assumption" she is deaf. Which we also address, since RY is known for "show don't tell" with representation)
Awe I hope y’all aren’t taking the ruffled feathers to heart. I just wanted to add it in! I also didn’t consider she isn’t Deaf but based on the description I do believe she is but I am rereading!! I just finished Fourth Wing recently in hopes of easing my ACOTAR withdrawal, and you two are seriously making me want to go back and re read it. Can't wait for more videos and maybe hopefully an ACOTAR series next? 🤞
45:07 i honestly find the name jack barlow so funny since i went to school with a kid named that and was just a really nice and nerdy kid who made jam and branded it "jack's jam"
Rebecca Yarros' Iron Wing is the best book I have ever read, and I just finished my fourth read of it. Nicole and Lexi created a podcast and community where I could explore all our reactions, analysis, and theories. Their energetic vibe and banter is absolutely sensational. I have binge-watched all their podcasts and can't wait to continue in the Emperyan series. Watch it!
Her mom had a fever while pregnant with her, and Violet's power overheats her... The powers are developed as something intrinsic about the person. Ridoc is cool and gets ice powers, Rhiannon needed a shoe with more grip on the parapet and then gets offered one, Sawyer is made of really strong stuff (being a repeat in the quadrant) and gets metal powers... Xaden keeps secrets and is wrapped in shadows...
32:45 I actually thought as I was reading it, that the past tense was refering to her potential as a scribe. But I guess it could also be him early mourning her😂😂
Loved the pod!😍 It's just what i needed to make the wait more enjoyable until November for Iron Flame. I've obsessing over this book and its theories for months, and I cannot stop hahaha🙆🏽♀️ so exited for the next episodes!!
I loved your podcast and can't wait for more! I must say I do like that you are on the boat of how the storm was just happening and not causes by Violets mum. I always thought that if her mum wanted her dead, why give her any training at all? Why not just spring the change on her last minute if that's what you wanted to happen. Can't wait to see what other theories you both have as you go along!! ❤
Oh that's a great point about training her! We wonder if she did that to "appear" like she was helping Violet (since so many people fought Lilith when she made the decision). But we are starting to, more and more, think that Lilith is going to have a "snape-like" character arch! There are so many possibilities!!
@@fantasyfangirls yeah I've seen that theory and I like the idea of it, especially when you add in that she was the one to help Brennan fake his death. I honestly think Lilith could go either way in terms of being good or bad but I don't think she tried to have one of her own children killed
I did not enjoy Fourth Wing that much, but I am loving hearing the two of you talk about it. It's always nice to hear other opinions and it kinda makes me wanna reread it.
I know I am late to the party and I am listening to this from the first episode. But the part where Violet first sees Liam and doesn’t know about the rebellion relics. I wonder if this confirms the theory Violet and Xaden where together before and she knows everything, she just got her memories taken.
This is amazing!!! I am obsessed not only with Fourth Wing but your podcast!!! It’s amazing to hear you two talk about all the intricate theories and plot points.
loving this podcastt😍 hating on dain? yeah i get passionate too😂 Also there is an artist beth crowley who made two songs about the book. you guys should listen to it, it’s amazing. it calls dain a self-righteous hypocrite XD
Really loving your podcasts !27:03 where u discuss about violets illness, i have a theory there. What if lilth had fought with venin when she was pregnant with violet and was injured during that fight with some kind of poison. Uk similar to the one they attaked violet in the ending chapters so maybe that caused her illness?
Mira’s mom says that she is going to report her as AWOL so it seems she never took a leave. So Violet definitely didn’t see her when their father passed the year prior. Mira only flew there to stop their mom from sending Violet to the Rider’s Quadrant.
I remember reading Fourth Wing the first time and thinking Jack Barlowe was going to be like a normal bully character, and then he straight up threw a dude off the parapet, and I was like, "Oh, OKAY."
This book has turned into my new comfort book, and I had a rough day today, so I'm re-reading it. And at the timestamp 26:27, they discuss whether Mira got leave to see Violet and her mom, and in chapter one, General Sorrengail said, "Get. Out. Lieutenant." Mom's words are soft puffs of steam in the frigid office. "Before I report you absent from your unit without leave." So Mira didn't get leave. She just showed up to try and keep Violet out of the Rider's quadrant.
The Fact that Violet is a Cancer and Xaddy is a Pisces!!! I just CANT!!! In horoscope compatibility Cancers and Pisces are extremely compatible in romance, connection and intense intimacy! Sooo yes 😅
I think Xaden will almost die and someone will save him (maybe Violet with a return of Andarna's time stop) or Xaden, Sgaeyl, and Tairn will all die and Violet will survive because of her bond to Andarna
Playing Devil's advocate here ....I've already read the 2 books, and yes Dain's a weasel for the most of the storyline .... But could it be that he's such a stickler for the rules because if he wasn't Colonel Aetos' son, he may be put to death since his signet could have the potential to be a security risk? If he follows the rules, it's proof they can control him. Maybe it's about survival for him. That being said, that is what sets him apart from Xaden. Xaden would gladly give his life for those he loves.
Just re reading it again and Dylan was one of the marked ones, the first violet meets. But he talks about how his mum wanted him to go to the healers quadrant, this is weird because they don’t have a choice. Do they not know they don’t have a choice, like when are they told. Especially since most the first years seem unprepared when we meet them all under the tree, even upset.
@@fantasyfangirls it’s easy to mix that up I thought that too but she mentions the mark after saying there’s only two people infront of her now, which we find out is Dylan and rhi. And there’s a bit where she mentions he can’t be that bad relating back to learning about the rebellion mark on his arm.
But Dylan actually isn't for a few reasons - one, he still has a parent and we learn that all the rebellion kids lost their parents completely (Liam, notably). Also: "I look around the pair [Rhiannon and Dylan] toward the roll-keeping desk and my eyes widen. "Is he ...?" I whisper. Mira glances and mutters a curse." At that point, she mentions that yes, he's a separatist's kid. Which to me says that one of the cadets taking roll is marked, not Dylan.
My theory about Dain is that the first time he saw a memory on violet was an accident but he saw something that he felt he has to turn and and then he was told to keep doing it
i do think the storm during parapet was coincidental. i think it's more of showing the lack of action/affection in how violet's mom wont help her daughter even when she literally could control storms instead of the other way round.
I would love to just go off with you guys haha. I also think even her brother didn't even believe in her. His book tells Mira what she has to do bc Violet couldn't/wouldn't be strong enough. @@fantasyfangirls
We do include spoilers for the whole Fourth Wing book, even in the first episode. So if you've only read the first 4 chapters, please come back to watch after you've finished the book! (No need to read Iron Flame for our Fourth Wing coverage, it wasn't released when we recorded these so it is Iron Flame spoiler free!)
Okay SUPER random theory here but what is Liam is somehow brought back to life but he’s on the other side?!? So he’s brought back by dark magic and is now an enemy?! Rebecca is just unhinged enough to do it
I hate to say it, I don't foresee Xaden surviving the series. I don't think he will die in Onyx Storm, but maybe in book four or five. Yarros has said she's not scared of killing characters. I just hope they can make their relationship less toxic before he does die, as their relationship is right now, it isn't healthy because of all the secrets and trust. I hope he also comes clean about what happened with the venin general, because SPOILER we all know Xaden didn't actually kill him.
I do not think the surprise due to the rebellion relic is an oversight. I think this is world building. She hadnt seen many children from the rebellion but she is seeing them now as they are required to be riders
Dain... How many times does he kiss violet after she returns from a flight, or just because... Pretty sure he's sneaking in some signet usage, just a sip, a peek.. You'd think his lips would be better sensors than his hands ..
I tried really hard to watch this b/c I love all the clips on tic tok but couldn’t make it all the way through b/c of the ads. There was one every 5 mins which made me loose interest quickly.
Really loved this review but for someone who is new to the book I would have liked less spoilers about who we’re gonna be love interest and “fuck faces” as you called them only 10 minutes into the review but that’s only my opinion still love the pod 😌

Thank you so much for the kind words and support! Means the world, and so happy that you're enjoying this content 🥰
I also love listening to the theories prior to iron flame. And how spot on y’all are
I can't get enough of this series!!!🐉
Love your podcast! Can't wait to hear your opinions on the rest of the books!
I’m so glad you explained the quadrants, squads and positions etc because I got so confused reading it first off.
Yay!!! I'm so glad it was helpful!!
Found you ladies on Instagram! OMG Fourth Wing has become my favorite book of all time!
yayyyyy!!! We're so happy you're here!
Just finished Iron Flame and I'm here because I need some sort of support group. HAHAHAHAHA Thank youuuu!!
I would love to see a video of you guys reacting to this video after reading iron flame. 😂❤
32:45 I actually thought as I was reading it, that the past tense was refering to her potential as a scribe. But I guess it could also be him early mourning her😂😂
Listening to this after reading iron flame is a whole different ball game
Loved the pod!😍 It's just what i needed to make the wait more enjoyable until November for Iron Flame. I've obsessing over this book and its theories for months, and I cannot stop hahaha🙆🏽♀️ so exited for the next episodes!!
Thank you!! That means os much to us that you loved it! We cannot wait to release episodes 2 + 3 on Monday sept 18th!
Oh that means so so much to us!! Thank you!
Glad I wasn't the only one who struggled with the squad section wing math situation 😂
I'm here after reading iron flame and oof. Is all I can say lol you guys picked up on so many things I missed! I feel like a toddler lol
I know I am late to the party and I am listening to this from the first episode. But the part where Violet first sees Liam and doesn’t know about the rebellion relics. I wonder if this confirms the theory Violet and Xaden where together before and she knows everything, she just got her memories taken.
Hey hey welcome to the party! And omg haven't heard that theory before 🤯
This is amazing!!!
Well now we definitely have to check this out!
Mira only flew there to stop their mom from sending Violet to the Rider’s Quadrant.
you guys! this podcast is AMAZING❤ love it so much
just what a crazy fan as me needed🥰
Thank you!!!
Tairn is like Joe from Princes Diaries is so accurate, I love it 😂
Hi! I'm currently reading the Fourth Wing (not finished yet though!). Are these videos spoiler free????
So planning on rereading both forth-wing and iron flame. Wondering If should listen to the podcast first or read the chapters first. Thoughts?
I think the reason Dain asks about the night prior to touching her is to have those memories be in her mind so he can read them
I’m rewatching because I finished iron flame :)
I cant wait for the next book 😢 hope the author will not separate them at the end
Thank you for this amazing podcast!!!! ❤❤
Thank YOU for listening
I think the storm on the parapet is from her Mom being nervous for her to cross and is losing a little control of her powers.
Love this take on it ⚡
i read the ACOTAR series last year and still to this day i think about it.. it is my roman empire lol please do the ACPTAR series next!
We feel so similar and we're covering the full ACOTAR series in January of 2024!
“Are you. About to. Defend. Dain?!” Made me laugh 😂
I remember reading Fourth Wing the first time and thinking Jack Barlowe was going to be like a normal bully character, and then he straight up threw a dude off the parapet, and I was like, "Oh, OKAY."
I have a HUGE suspicion that Dane is also an intrinsic to some degree similar to Xaden and has kept his true abilities a secret to avoid execution.
I loved this podcast soooo much!!!!
Thank you!
Sooo yes 😅
Omg! I was playing Hogwarts Legacy while reading/listening to this too! I felt the same way!
hahaha YES! it's impossible not to picture Basgaith as Hogwarts haha
I think Xaden will almost die and someone will save him (maybe Violet with a return of Andarna's time stop) or Xaden, Sgaeyl, and Tairn will all die and Violet will survive because of her bond to Andarna
Xaden, Sgaeyl and Tairn all dying is wayyyy too sad😢😢. I hope Rebecca doesn't do this to us🙏
Playing Devil's advocate here ....I've already read the 2 books, and yes Dain's a weasel for the most of the storyline ....
I have never had so many ads in a RUclips video. Maybe it’s just me but I had one every couple minutes.
Oof sorry about that! We just became eligible for them and YT went a little nuts? Not sure but we're learning how this all works 🤷🏼♀️
Should read of blood and ash I love it
If you’re a big audiobook ready. You need to do the graphic audio for acotar series and then they are getting one for fourth wing!
Oh really?? I was under the impression it was Liam she noticed as the first marked one!
Doing my second read through, and watching this simultaneously. Love how this podcast is getting my gears turning! And "FUCK DAIN!" Hahahahaha.
Yay, it's perfect for the reread! Thanks for following along and ohhh man you're in for a treat with our talks about Dain 🤣
The treaty of Auricoa is public, but the adendums are classified. One of the chapter beginnings is from a "declassified" adendum to the treaty.
Yes! We talk more about that in later episodes 🥰
i want to join in on this so bad bc I have no one to talk to about this book at all!
you now have us!!!
I would love to just go off with you guys haha. I also think even her brother didn't even believe in her. His book tells Mira what she has to do bc Violet couldn't/wouldn't be strong enough.
@@fantasyfangirls
So I’m rereading and I also started counting Dains touching violet and till the end of 4th chapter I counted 9 in total 😅
GFDD!
I think some of Dain’s panic is he knows about the later war game plans from his dad and is terrified she’s going to die. 50:32
Ohh hadn't thought about it being planned ahead that far!
Wait can I watch this if I’ve only read the first 4 or will they spoil ahead?
We do include spoilers for the whole Fourth Wing book, even in the first episode. So if you've only read the first 4 chapters, please come back to watch after you've finished the book!
(No need to read Iron Flame for our Fourth Wing coverage, it wasn't released when we recorded these so it is Iron Flame spoiler free!)
Okay SUPER random theory here but what is Liam is somehow brought back to life but he’s on the other side?!? So he’s brought back by dark magic and is now an enemy?! Rebecca is just unhinged enough to do it
NOOOO Liam!! Hahah
Xayden’s mind reading confirmed ahhhhh
I hate to say it, I don't foresee Xaden surviving the series. I don't think he will die in Onyx Storm, but maybe in book four or five. Yarros has said she's not scared of killing characters. I just hope they can make their relationship less toxic before he does die, as their relationship is right now, it isn't healthy because of all the secrets and trust. I hope he also comes clean about what happened with the venin general, because SPOILER we all know Xaden didn't actually kill him.
There is one red flag i think you guys Missed when Mira is talking about the fables book...Vi says that it even 'demonizes dragons'!!!
Ohh you're right, we never do touch on this line of it!
All I have to say is if Xaden dies we riot!
What if the illness that cause violet’s sickness is the “draining of powers in the Barrens”
Ohh very possible!
Also the passage at the beginning could be like im not going to change names atall even though they died (like liam)
True! Kinda reminds me of Fargo (but they don't change the names to honor the dead)
I never liked Gale either, ahhhhhh!!! and I thought the same about Dane!!!
I don’t think he can mind read, I think he can hear what goes on around his shadows 1:03:25
I saw a theory that xaden can read people cause train even says don’t try to read me and I’m wondering if he was trying to read her that first moment
Yes! We talk SO much about this throughout the episodes!!
