- For around $55K USD - will a used BMW M2 Competition or brand new BMW, I mean Toyota, GR Supra 3.0 make you lose your license faster?

Damn that officer was cranky but at least he didn’t give you a ticket lol
I rather a cranky guy with no ticket vs the guy who is extra nice and comes back in 5 seconds with 3 tickets lol
Lol the last thing I expected is for the cop to be blocking the road for a GR86 ad. I suspect he didn’t want to be there the way he spoke.
I’ve never understood why some states require a front plate. Seems like a huge waste of time and money
Red light cameras and tolls.
@@ricepony33 I live in south Florida and we have more red light cameras and tolls than anywhere else I’ve been. No front plate laws tho
@@milli2385 Yeah but Florida isn't a common wealth and hasn't figured out how to tax everyone like the states that enforce front plates.
having owned both a supra and an m2c, i think they are both amazing cars. you have to make a personal decision:
do you want a comfortable 2 seater that has full power from 1500-5000 rpm? get the supra. it's effortless to drive fast, ZF in sport mode is plenty fast for street driving
or, do you want a stiffer 4 seater that lags before 3500 rpm, but pulls from 3500-7000 rpm and has more drama?
from a driving perspective, this means that the supra gives you the full torque kick instantly but then stays constant to the top of the powerband. in contrast, the m2c doesn't start feeling torquey until about 4k rpm and from there it builds and builds all the way to redline. in my opinion, this feels much more thrilling because it feels like the car wants to keep going. so the sensation of acceleration is very different in the 2 cars.
the m2c takes more attention to drive fast bc you can't let the car pick the gear. if you leave it in auto mode, you will always feel a lag before the torque kicks in. what you're supposed to do is, already have the car in manual mode and pick the right gear so that you're at least 3-4k rpm. then you get max torque on tap. in comparison, the supra ALWAYS has max torque on tap, but runs out of power at the top end.
i loved the supra for its crazy low end torque, but after test driving an m2c, i could immediately tell that the supra doesn't have the same M engine/transmission. you can definitely appreciate the things that M division did to make the car feel aggressive and special.
the supra definitely does the jekyll/hyde split personality better than the m2c. super comfortable and easy to drive but still fast in comfort mode, very fast and responsive in sport mode. the m2c is still very stiff in comfort mode and you must wring out the engine to feel its power. an interesting quirk i've noticed about the m2c is that the DCT behavior changes dramatically depending on the rpm you shift. shifting at 3k rpm is a bit slow and lazy tbh, while shifting at 5k+ rpm is very snappy. the supra has quick shifts at all rpm's.
This is so spot on! I actually came from a FBO 435i with the 8 ZF transmission and this is exactly my opinion when I just switched to a m2 comp last weekend but couldnt agree less.
based off of what you described and nothing else. Supra sounds like the better option of a driving experience tbh.
The CS doesn’t make the M2C an “old” car. It’s like the Nismo version of the GT-R
Yeah I misspoke. "Old" as in it's not the latest version of the M2.
CS is over powered, too hard to control. 400hp is more than enough for small car
@@lukew3224 it has the adaptive dampers though :( really wish those were an option on the m2c. still not worth 100k+ though
Very well spoken and knowledgeable, helpful info.
I like how the cop is getting paid for a car being released yet crying about you guys 🤣
Which would make a better daily driver?(disregarding the rear seats). Been looking at used F82 M4s as well
Would you take the 2021 M2 Competition 6MT over the 2023 Supra 3.0/A91 6MT?
Good video, both these cars are nice. Love the looks of the supra and that interior as far as the windows remind me of camaros..those short windows make it seem like a coffin 🤣
Fenton, do you think the 235i/240i is another good option, I’ve been looking at there prices I noticed there in the high 20/low 30’s range and its nice a manual is offered as well. As for the M2 well its frankly a modern E46 M3, now Toyota needs to put a manual on the Supra already.
Never driven a 2 series outside of M2 and M2C, but I heard they're fun daily drivers. Probably not well suited for track work without heavy mods.
Impressive roads, where was this shot at?
I literally had the same encounter with the same cop telling me to slow down and add the front plate on my MX-5. It was cool to see a GR-86 though
Was this on CA-84?
How you take a modified car with coil overs and 200 treadwear tires and talk about how much more motorsports it feels compared to a stock car and come to any other conclusion than “hey, maybe I should compare a Supra with coilovers and 200 treadwear tires too!” Is beyond me. Ofc the modified M2 is going to feel more sporty with those mods.
Good point, but actually my statement wasn't related to the tires or suspension. The engine/gearbox combo is what makes the M2C feel a lot more "motorsport" to me. Better response, top end power, quicker shifts. I actually preferred the Michelin PSS in the Supra over the M2C's Federal RS-PRO and I have no complaints with the stock Supra suspension.
The m2 comp stock for stock would still slap the Supra lol.
@@saxahorn1475 nürburgring lap times disagree with you lol
Would love to see your opinion of the new m2 but with a manual !
There are very few cars I want to drive more than the M2 CS right now
Was this at Alice’s Restaurant on Skyline blvd? Was there a couple weeks ago for vacation. Some great roads out there but wasn’t that impressed. Some roads here in NY could give them a run
What spec ZE40? looked awesome
spot on review
went from an m240i to the M2c
the s55 has much more character
Did you ever mod the 240i? Has the b58 though
@@Mike604 no mods to either, it's not about the power of the b58, feels almost as powerful as the s55, it's the way it revs and sounds and the way the power builds, the s55 has much more of a motorsports feel to it.
I've just sold my m240 after three years of ownership. An incredible car that can do it all but not really track focused. A really good performance car for the road though.
you know the new m3/m4 had this transmission right?
Yup, just another reason to choose the stick.
Why do you misquote the M2 comp as being $55k
I have a A90, I wish I could turn off the fake noise in sport mode. Edit: either way I’m trying to get that Emira next year
Got my eyes on the Emira too. Stunning car and hopefully will be a marked improvement over the Evora in refinement
@@Zygrene Since this is kind of a new leaf for Lotus, I would be amazed and very happy if dealers didn't mark them up. But maybe this is the new world we live in? From hearing them at Goodwood, they sound amazing! Can't wait.
I'd be shocked if there was no markup for the first model year, especially here in California
I had to cancel my order and go with another dealer after waiting 8 months. 20k Mark up after they told me there wouldn't be any.
Color of car has something to do as well
Supera beats M2comp in almost every video on youtube, but i would pick M2comp everyday just for that look and back seat usability. Also Supera is not track ready with stock break, its super weak actually.
I think they need to be compared on track. Im only lucky enough to play these 2 cars in gran turismo
Just the fact that you can get the M2 in manual makes it the better car. That Supra with a manual would be a different story as far as feeling like a true JDM sports car.
Sad they didn’t do a turbo for the new GR86 :(
Agreed. As impressive as the DCT is, M2C + manual just sounds way too fun
@@Zygrene it is 🤩
so now that the supra has a manual What's your updated opinion??
I’m actually looking at both. Kinda torn. I actually want the 2023 M2 but the waiting list sucks
If you like the G87 2023 M2's looks which are hideous, just wait for the 2024 or 2025 M2 Comp. An insider leaked the news about the M2 Comp coming out shortly after the 2023. I would rather wait for that.
@@chrisginoc I actually like the way the new m2 looks. I’m looking to upgrade soon, so my options are limited to what’s available now.
@@ttran626 Jump in a 2023 Supra A91 6MT while the M2 Comp is released
@@chrisginoc in other words, you’re saying go supra lol
@@ttran626 I would or atleast used M2 Comp 6MT. Don't jump in on the first M2 when the Comp is around the corner
Zf downshift is not sluggish. If you are looking for a forcible bite like a dct, the torque converter doesn’t do that. It’s much smoother.
this is exactly what i was thinking. I don't think he realizes on how many different styles of driving hit the road. The car is doing its best to anticipate what the driver desires.
I'll take the M2C all day, every day.
Your M2c pricing was quoted a bit high. MSRP started at $58,900. DCT adds $2900, exec package $1200, metallic paint $550. That's it for options, other than adding M Performance CF bits at the port. The car is quite loaded with standard equipment (esp for a BMW) - heated seats, park distance control, comfort access, h/k sound, navigation, 19" forged wheels, massive Brembo brakes (optional in other markets).. all standard in the US.
Where do you live? I am in Chicago and M2 COMP starts at 63k +.
@@chaumander9378 Arizona - but I'm talking MSRP, which is the same anywhere in the country
Looks on the Supra have grown on me in the last year, but maybe that's because it comes with a manual now.... By the way -- BMW and Patagonia name a more iconic duo lol
M2C any day
Driver's cars have manual transmissions. End of story.
? Ok grandpa
Facts.
Why is the Supra a possibly better track car than the M2 comp?
Aero, wheelbase, and rigidity
Good question. I don't think anything in this video could have determined that haha
Based on 2 things: Randy Pobst lapped Laguna Seca about half a second faster in the "old" 335hp Supra, which he attributed to cornering speed. Guessing this has a lot to do with the lower center of gravity. Also I see a LOT of track prepped Supras nowadays, and they have great aftermarket support. I should have talked about this in the video.
lighter weight and less fat on top of what's already been said
Dedicated sports car platform, not based on a regular 2 series.
That m2 wasn’t 55k brand new in comparison to the 55k Supra, that’s why the m will still be superior than the Supra.
or just a brand mark up
M2 looks amazing. Never a fan of the Supra’s pointy nose.
Just an abomination of design, the Supra.
Compare new to new not new to used ahahah... buy a new supra and put in 5kin mods and it and 500WHP+
Not even 5k. Downpipe, ecutune, flex fuel kit and some ethanol! The b58 is honestly BMWs best motor currently. I
Tune a supra and it's easily better than the m2c, tune a s55 and spin a crank hub LOL
Do a crankhub fix (billet) in a m2c plus stg3 will see 700whp 😉
@@audiophilemetallian lmfao
This guy is an "M" ball-washer. You can tell he has bias towards the M2 Comp
Anyone who thinks that ugly ass, boring, embarrassment to be called a supra is better, doesn’t know shit about cars. Anything that is not available in a manual will always be worse than something that is a manual.
Lolll manual superiority ppl r gay 🤡
