Do a part 2, 30 years is a really long time for an engine to stand idle, throw a fresh starter on and let's see if Marky can get this going, I think it's a real challenge but I'm up to see this run
take starter motor off, clean it up, bench test it, put back on, it’ll be fine 👍
It wouldn't be a Ford of this era without the struts sticking through the tops! But yes, please do a part two on this - let it have one last go at being a car before it finally dies.

My dad's second car was that same colour and year. It'd be great to hear it run. Funnily enough it was condemned when the front wheels stayed on ground when it was lifted up.

Definitely, put a good starter motor on. And finally remove all the useful parts....engine, gearbox. rear axle, steering column, etc etc We had one as the family car in 1965 till 1971...in Belgium....Was a great car. Took us on vacation in France and Switzerland. I still remember the red Skai upholstery. My dad was fond of that little car. Traded for a new Audi 100 LS . Oh yeah, I remember the starter motor didn't have a solenoid, it was a kind of starterpinion that was shot out by inertia 🙂 and they used to get worn out pretty fast... I kept that old part for a while in my box with car stuff. I was 10 ~ 12 y old back then

I had a mk1 about 45 years ago and the inner wings were in similar condition, think the bonnet was holding the struts down

You probably have a Lucas starter on your shelves to fit that Cortina! It's a straight forward Lucas ,4 inch two bolt motor fitted to many British cars up to the 80s
Same colour and year of my Cortina. I bought it off my foreman for £30 when I was an engineering apprentice.
It was already 12 years old when I bought it in ‘78.
I hadn’t even taken my driving test so I learnt to drive in it. It was pretty knackered but it was mine😊

I think this age of Cortina was positive earth . The Mark two was negative . It might be worth checking.

I remember as a kid my mom crashing ours,next day dad got a scaff bar behind slam panel,and a chain wrapped it around a tree,it straighten up great.

most likely the points are welded together. The diaphragm in the fuel pump will have disintegrated use alternate fuel supply the oilways will be clogged change the oil replace the cartridge type oil filter clean jets in carb replace plugs + leads redX into cylinders then go for it. got one of these sitting my garage but its in a lot better condition love it to bits

A workmate took his 105 E out for a drive one night and completely forgot about the second hump back bridge on the Teigngrace Road .... his front turrets did exactly this and it was only the bonnet miraculously staying shut that enabled him to limp into work the next morning . How or where have you found these gems ? Buried in the yard ? They all have little bits and pieces that are worth their weight in ģold . Particularly that 1600E . Cortina mk1 wings are a grand a piece nos .

Back in 1980 had a 1965 MK1 that had one side top plate starting to split the metal. And when bounced up and down you could see the split get larger sadly that ended it's days
Yous need to give scrap car recycling UK some tips lads. Let them see how things are done haha
The starters in that vintage cortina were inertia type. The motor needs to turn to spin out the gear that engages on the engine flywheel. If it’s been static for decades the starter is unlikely to be serviceable. You might get lucky if you can turn the starter gear once you have removed it from the engine. The brushes in the starter are probably very worn out and the commutator they come into contact with. Has the starter got a turn shaft at the back of it ?. They used to have them so you could use a spanner on it if ever it froze up when engaged with the flywheel.
