Hi all, thanks for watching the film and please feel free to comment your thoughts below. I love hearing from everyone about their personal stories/connection to the material.
Also, it's pretty obvious but the film's link was posted on an incel/white supremacy site so they're spending their time posting cloned hate messages. Just ignore them, not worth wasting your time trying to engage.

Parents raise their kids to be themselves and be confident in their self identity. So why some parents refuse to accept or allow their kids to be themselves is beyond me.
You do not deserve to be called a parent if you allow your own beliefs to prevent your children from being themselves. Whether they are trans, gay, non-binary, whatever it is. Let them be them!

I’m a disabled veteran, medically retired as a result of injuries in theater (OIF and OND) and PTSD. I was an infantry line medic and US Army sergeant. I’m also a transgender woman, having come out in 2015 and began my transition the following year. I remember seeing this short film years ago and crying at the end, the acceptance and unconditional love of family is not something many of us face. People tend to fear what they don’t understand, and unfortunately that leads to a lot of willful ignorance, misinformation, and bigotry. So thank you for creating such a touching film.
And to all these shitbags in the comments below making disparaging remarks - If you don’t like trans people serving in the military, take their place. Less than a quarter of a percent of people in this country are military. If you can’t or won’t put your money where your mouth is, then shut up, cowards.

    • @robinblue6775
      @robinblue6775 2 года назад +33

@@smair9900 okay this will be me trying to explain.
the definition of lesbian is non man loving non man, right?
so before a trans woman transitions or realizes she’s trans, she might think she was simply a straight man. because well, she thought she had to be a boy, and she liked girls.
but then she realizes what being trans means and is, and connects with it. she realizes she’s trans and comes out, but still likes women. that would then make her a trans lesbian.
but then comes into play transphobic lesbians, which we call terfs. they are lesbians that don’t think trans women are women, and that therefore they cant be lesbians.
but trans women are women and can totally be lesbians. but not wanting to date or have sex with a trans person doesnt make you transphobic. you can have what’s called a genital preference, where you prefer someone to have either a vagina or a penis. having a genital preference doesn’t make you transphobic as long as you don’t wanna date them purely because they’re trans.
that might sound complicated so here’s a simpler version of genital preference vs transphobia:
genital preference: not wanting to date someone queer and trans because you don’t wanna have sex with someone with parts you aren’t attracted to, but still respecting their gender identity.
an example of genital preference in a sentence: “i don’t feel comfortable dating you because i prefer _____ genitals.”
transphobia: refusal to date/have sex with someone purely because they are trans. not seeing that person as their gender identity.
an example of transphobia in a sentence: “i dont wanna date you because i only date women, and you’re not a woman because you have a penis.”
so that’s kind of it in simple terms,, but if you want me to explain more i can :)

I only noticed this after watching it years later but I appreciate how the only spoken words are a confirmation of Allie's transition
Edit: I should rephrase. Those spoken lines represent, to me, the social transition of trans people, unfortunately often starting with hostility and alienation but ending with love and support from those most important. Of course an upsettingly high number of trans people don’t get this ending but the film is aiming to make that ending a reality for every trans person. So while the first line is a deadname, it is necessary to represent that arc.

Wait, was the original version of this video taken down and re uploaded? Thank god, I was afraid of it being gone forever. I always felt bad for this young girl. My original comment went like this. Oh for god sake, the child has to pee or poop, let her go pee or poop. This bathroom is probably a single toilet bathroom anyway. Nobody would be able to walk in on her. As a MTF myself I felt it when the Teacher called her Robert. Being misgendered sucks big time. As soon as she released the door handle I was like run sweetie find another bathroom fast.

Yknow, back when I was younger, ignorant, and a young gun who thought he couldn’t be touched, I always used to say such hanus things about people who wanted to change their gender or be attracted to the same sex. I always would call them “freaks” and not give any of them the slightest bit of attention. That is until the present time. This video along with one of my one of my closest friends revealing to me that he wanted to change his sex from a man to a girl changed my thinking entirely. She told me that she didn’t want to tell me because she thought that I would think of her as a freak and never talk to her again. At that moment I broke down into tears and realized right then and there that the only freak in the room was me. I finally was self aware enough to realize that the hanus things I’ve said were directed not towards “freaks”, but to other human beings with beating hearts, just like me. Just because someone sees a different color than what I see, doesn’t mean I have the right to degrade them for it. I’m riddled with nothing but shame to admit that, but god bless any of you who have the courage to see a different color than what the rest of us see. For being your true self.
