  • A playthrough of Capcom's 1996 arcade-port puzzle game for the Sega Saturn, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
Played through as Morrigan on the default difficulty setting.
Oh man, back in our school days my sister and I would throw this is constantly. It was insanely addictive- we both spent forever figuring out character advantages, stacking strategies, and making up nonsense phrases that we imagined the characters to be saying, all the while throwing swears and elbows back and forth. I always won (I always seemed to get those last second saves - apparently that's still how I play!), but she never gave up - she kept coming back, determined to get me. And she got very, very good at it. Even if she couldn't beat me but maybe once every half-dozen matches, she could absolutely keep up.
Anyways, at some point in college I was hanging out in my dorm room when I got a phone call from her super excited - her housemate was apparently talking all kinds of smack about how amazing he was at the game when he found her old Playstation copy sitting in a drawer under the TV. He was one of those types that tell all of his stories in super self-aggrandizing ways, so to listen to him, he was a Puzzle Fighter God. He bet her (I don't remember what for) that he'd clean the floor with her if she wanted to challenge him.
Apparently, she took him up on that, and after only three rounds he refused to play anymore. She had spanked him that hard, and she was calling to thank me for being so merciless because she was good enough to make him eat crow so easily. The next time I came home from school, I went to see her and the housemate was at home. I asked him if he cared to play a game. He looked like he wanted to kill me. My sister and I both laughed so hard for days - he was SOOOO salty. Like absurdly so. Like "there is no possible reason nor justification for how pissy you are being" so. It was obnoxious, but it was an endless source of deep belly-laughs for awhile.
Wow, that was a really long personal recollection. My bad! Hahaha. Anyways, its Super Puzzle Figher II Turbo. Street Fighter as a puzzle game. I don't think I can explain the magic of this game any better than my story (hopefully) did. Awesome game.

I don't know what possessed Capcom to make this game, but whatever it was, they need much more of it! I loved this game and Pocket Fighter just because they were so silly and fun to play!

    SWEET play-through!!^^
Just recently discovered the game myself on "PSX" and it's such a BLAST!!
Ironically, "Morrigan" was also my character of choice(Vampires ROCK!! ^w^) although, I'm pretty terrible at the game and still haven't beaten it yet!! xD XD
also, 10:09-10:25 personally, that was such a lucky save and AWESOME comeback.. .. .. ...

I wonder if Capcom would ever do a new Puzzle Fighter for consoles like that mobile game sometime ago. It'd be so fun :D

Capcom, this could have been your HD Remix but you had to play...and lose.

Does the Saturn port give you the option to quick drop gems by pressing up?
