- A playthrough of Sunsoft's 1995 puzzle game for the Sega Saturn, Hebereke's Popoitto.
This video shows the story mode and its ending.
Hebereke's Popoitto is a Puyo Puyo-style puzzler that was released on the SNES, Saturn, and PlayStation. Though it was fully translated into English, the game never received a stateside release. The English version was only sold in PAL territories, as was the NES platformer Ufouria: The Saga, which is the first game in the Hebereke series. Hebereke's Popoitto is also a direct sequel to the 1993 game Hebereke's Popoon.

Hebereke's Popoitto plays very similarly to Dr. Mario and the classic earlier games in Compile's Puyo Puyo series. You match four colors in a row to make the pieces disappear, and the point is to clear all of the active pieces on the board. The snag is that if you touch any of these blocks (which like to move about on their own) with the falling piece, they freeze in place, and this can jam up your plan pretty easily if they stick in a place that blocks the moves you were planning.
The game is overall hyper-cutesy and cartoony, and the 2D graphics look fantastic, especially in coming from a time when rudimentary polygon models were the go-to thing. The soundtrack is also a big improvement over the already great SNES chiptunes.
It also looks miles better than Sega's awesome-yet-hideous Baku Baku Animal ( • Baku Baku Animal (Satu... ).
Hebereke's Popoitto will never be recognized as a crowning achievement for the team at Sunsoft, but it is an endearing, fun puzzler, and that goes double for anyone that loved the characters in Ufouria. If you like Puyo games, this will be right up your alley.

NintendoComplete (www.nintendocom...) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games!
so THIS was the game i saw decades ago at some video game store. i had memories of a puzzle game with a scene of some snowman drop kicking the other guy off the screen and had no idea what it was til today. Thank you.
The snowman is actually Hebereke, a penguin haha.
Wait this released in the usa?
Hebereke's Popoitto is a classy and addictive puzzler that makes for a substantial improvement over the already great SNES game.
Are you going to play the SNES spinoffs like *_"Hashire Hebereke"_* or *_"Sugoi Hebereke"_* eventually? Those are the ones I played the most.
I think of the thumbnail as *_Pen-chan_* reacting to *_Jennifer_* drooling all the time.
Gotta love the bizarre humor in this game series.
The SEGA Saturn fascinates me more than any other console. I don’t know why.
I can definitely see why. I think it's a very, *VERY* underrated game system.
Great, now I need to buy this game because I know I will play it for hours.
A lot like Dr. Mario but with moving blocks and a difficulty that adjusts with your play skill.
As a Hebereke fan, I can't help but to want this game, but at the same time, I wish they made a sequel to the Metroidvania original.
Well you're in luck
@@davigamer4569 I just beat it a few days ago. I'm a little upset that the exploration and things were dialed back from the original, but rather liked the semi-randomized room layouts and the twist ending, and just being able to hang out with Hebe and friends again.
I do wish they included Hebereke, fully translated as an unlockable.
This looks something new out of the ordinary
those characters are adorable
Indeed they are adorable. I always liked *_O-chan_* the most because I loved cats so much.
@@Dorian_Scott me too
This one is in the game collection (the Japanese release), there's also a SFC, and a PS1 version of this game. The SFC version seems to be different from the 32 bit ports in how it plays.
*_"Hebereke's Popoitto"_* for the *_"Sega Saturn"_* .
Despite being an avid *_Sunsoft_* fanboy back in the day, this is a game that I have never owned myself. I *_do_* own *_"Hashire Hebereke"_* & *_"Sugoi Hebereke"_* (Eh, I'd say the latter lived up to the title for being *_"Sonic Battle"_* before Sonic Battle) on the SFC.
I think this game also had an SNES version, but I don't have that either.
This looks quite interesting for a puzzle game.
It has an SFC/SNES and PS1 version, the latter not under the Hebereke name specifically, but under Hebereke Station Popoitto.
@@Bloodreign1 The PS1 version is just called Hebereke's Popoitto in Europe
@@Bloodreign1 The PS1 and Saturn are 64-bit though.
This is like dr. mario with squishy splats mixed together.
acid trip gone bad
I've seen worse.
Puyo puyo
12:11 So Cute
@Diah Padmi Nostalgic Game
And now, only the PlayStation port is left.
I have to stay away from these kinds of games. They are too addictive and I end up spending far too long enjoying them rather than sleeping at night. Too fun for my health!
It's not called poopyo poopyo it's called squishy splats and it is not compile it is "Compile WEST"
hebe o chan sukezaemon Jennifer soooooo cute
7:59 judging by your emotions, I don’t think popoitto games are your strong point.
Oh look! A Dr.Mario clone
It’s a good and bad surprise for 2 reasons : -good : the cartoonish looks and the music.
-bad : the Puyo Puyo system of play, because i don’t like Puyo Puyo.
I checked the links you put in the description : Baku Baku Animal is ugly indeed, but the music is nice.
For the rest, they look and sounds good.
PS : i just discovered that BBA has a Game Gear version, and it’s also ugly ruclips.net/video/lPiftOXYQ7o/видео.html .
This plays nothing like Puyo Puyo though, and more like a Dr Mario with a twist, the pieces move around till you place a piece on top of them, or the side of them.
The music in this game (especially the one for the cutscenes) sounded way too childish for a family game.
You sound childish
These blocks are not cute
First!
Hebereke copied puyo puyo
Sorry, this isn't anything like Puyo Puyo, it's more of a Dr Mario clone.
