  • Welcome (Bienvenidos) to Neil’s Spanish Fly Box, where we take a look at some of the flies used in Spain and elsewhere.
¿Hola, que tal? En principio, este es un video diseñado para pescadores que entienden inglés, pero por supuesto, ¡cualquiera puede verlos! Si eres un pescador de habla hispana y te gustaría comentar en español, te responderé en español. ¡No seas tímido!
Learn about some new (some, not so new) and interesting fly patterns, that can be found in every Spanish fly fisherman’s armoury, including some ‘must haves’! Real flies for real fly fishers.
I have fly fished in Spanish competitions for over a decade, on rivers and still water, learning a great deal about the Spanish way of fishing and the flies that
    are used.

Hello Bob, great to hear your news! Obviously your shoulder is back in action - at this stage, not going solo is probably a good idea! I’m sure it felt good to get a fish in the net. Oh that fickle lady weather!😂 Thank you for your kind comment on the video.😊

Hi there, good to hear from you. If you are a new fly tyer, this style of nymph should be a great confidence booster for you, irrespective of the type of hair that you are using. Wax your thread, take your time and it will look easy for you too! 😉

I know they don’t sink as fast but man I love a buggy scruffy nymph. All that movement works. Sorry if there are Gray Squirrels in Spain. I know they are a problem for the British Reds. They need to learn to eat them. Good stuff.

Hello Michael, how’s the rehab going? Loved, buggy and scruffy - my wife described me as that!!😂 Indeed, some movement on a nymph is always a good thing. Yes, there are grey squirrels in Spain and yes, they are a problem for the native red squirrels in the UK. ‘Good stuff’? Am I to understand that you have partaken of grey squirrel at some time? The grey squirrel tail that you saw in the video, actually came from the UK - friendly farming folk!! Well, friendly to me, but not necessarily to the squirrel!!😉 Thank you for your comment.👍

@@neilsspanishflybox Yes, my job keeps me from hunting anymore ( not for long now) some people fix them
In a stew. I prefer breaded and fried like fried chicken. Our Reds ( Fox Squirrel) are real big and hang out mainly around creeks and river. Also good. I’m scruffy too. A bread like a wire brush.

@@neilsspanishflybox we also call them tree rats which doesn’t sound too appealing but they really are good to eat.

Hello Colin, thank you for your comment. I’m delighted that this style of fly appeals to you and I hope that your tying catches as many trout as this one. Sometimes, a little bit of extra movement can make all the difference.😉
