This was a specially arranged full gig which was recorded by Granada TV, of which 4 songs have only ever been broadcast on the So it Goes shows. Johnny Green (p31) also mentions the gig for the Granada TV's So it Goes programme.
Granada TV also filmed the support act Soiuxie and the Banshees and a couple of minutes of their footage exists also.
The original broadcast dates were mid December 1977 when the first two songs were broadcast, and a year later, December 1978 when the latter two were shown.
It is suggested that...
"I seem to remember someone telling me years ago, when ch4 held its punk night and broadcast the punk doc that was composed of footage from so it goes, that Granada had taped over all the original footage that they had, and the program was compiled from Tony Wilsons personal video collection of the broadcast programs (This is also mentioned in the doc when a Blondie track is played, the quality is poor due to tape deteriation). All 4 clash track that were originally broadcast in 77 & 78 from Manchester were included in the doc along with the Siouxsie footage from when they were support. "
Great stuff, I was there that night.
You were so lucky.
@@alexdelvecchio2852 I see what you did there.
I’m always amazed about how people remember concerts they went like 40 years ago. I’m 42 and can’t remember half the gigs I‘ve been on my 20s. Hahaha
@@demetriussoaressilva338 You will always remember the ones that had a big impact on you. First gig I ever saw was The Jam in 1982 and its seared in my memory for keeps.
u lucky ladyyyyy
This is what I call punk rock :)
Saw them play this on the "White Riot" tour May 77 at W'ton Civic hall. Had just bought the debut album the week before . First track on the album . My fav , and I think it was the first track they played
Not the best gig musically I have been to , but easily for sheer visceral excitement unequalled over 45 years later !
El punk no muere 😎 aguante the Clash 🔥
Joe Strummer forever.
Agree 100. 🍻☮️
I bet the guys from Joy Division were at this gig
Well the best Live track ever. Period. You can todays lousy music. Road music is about young rebellion and these brings it . They are a very tight band!

This must have been the most incredible show! I never got to see The Clash until the Bond's International Casino Debacle.

Maybe I could like this more if I was I tune. But it’s too quiet and the sound too amateurish on this video.
Well that was the essence of punk rock. Tidy professionalism was out, unbridled passion was in. Guess you had to be there to understand
@@JohnnyFriendly Point taken, but at best they had a good sound too.
It’s called a live recording you f****** Dunce
