      If he wants to be a champion boxer then he better get better at not having to rely on other arts to create the openings. Martial arts is about shoring up your weaknesses just as much as pressing your strengths. Start thinking like an artist and not just a brawler.

    people need to realize boxing in mma is different then actual boxing. when u are putting combinations in mma they are to set up your clinch, knees, kicks, takedowns as in boxing u are just setting up punches with other punches. however it is good to get training at a strictly boxing gym because alot of their techniques are different because they do not have to worry about checking kicks, or stuffing takedowns that is why luke throws an defends differently then the other guy. in mma u must worry about it all in boxing u don't so of course his boxing is superior to luke but if u put him sparring in mma sparring I bet u he won't do as good as luke did in strictly boxing.

      +bigcymac actually no not everyone knows it, if u read the comments literally alot of people do not understand an they won't unless u do mma which I have been for 4 years an I also went to a strictly boxing gym for about 8 months the styles are different even though the art of mma boxing and boxing are the same just people don't understand different stances are for different strategies or different fighting styles

    • @quenquen411
      @quenquen411 8 лет назад +2

      +Daniel Bejarano Wrong. He punches and defends differently largely because he has low amateur level boxing. If you don't believe me look how champions Holly Holm and Conor McGregor through punches. That's a convenient excuse. I don't disagree with the rest, but that part, no.

    He was going well considering this guy is a pure boxer, you can see the power Luke's got, imagine with 4 ounce and no headgear. When you consider that his round house is his biggest weapon striking, and how much of a beast he is on the ground, it's easy to see when you put it all together why he's the best in his weight class

    honestly, i give athletes on both sides of these sports massive respect cause one they still get their asses kicked, and two they put time into both of their sports. one is super crisp, cunning, accurate with his hands, while the other is proficient (maybe advanced depending on ths fighter) in several aspects of the fight game. shout out to both, and to each his own

    When you're watching this, try to keep in mind that Rockhold's stance, habits, and fundamentals are all geared for an MMA fight (i.e. He's used to throwing more kicks and not relying so much on just his hands, he keeps hands low for takedown defense and for proper balance to throw kicks, etc.)

      t money I'm kidding.
      Idk if you watch mma but luke is a really well rounded fighter. Stand up wise his left kick is a murder weapon. But he is obviously not a boxer, he's getting out classed in a big way. Michael Jordan was the best athlete ever and he got out class playing baseball.
      They're to very different sports that get blanketed together.

    • @tmoney7842
      @tmoney7842 8 лет назад +1

      I watch mma religiously and love both sports but I thought you were serious lol. Yeah Lukes a great striker but I think Romero will beat him. I think boxing has a major impact on some mma fighters I think the Diaz brothers for example are great boxers and could jump into a boxing match with no problem.

    • @mitchell8940
      @mitchell8940 8 лет назад

      +t money I believe Romero just got pop for a ped. Big surprise right? lol, i think Romeros best days are behind him, he's damn near forty. That division is deep but there's not a definitive number one contender.
      The Diaz brother have great combinations and condition but in the world of boxing they're to stationary to compete on a high, just my opinion. I'm excited for McGregor vs rda but i kinda wanted to see nate diaz vs Connor.

    • @tmoney7842
      @tmoney7842 8 лет назад

      +Mitch Hop Yeah I'm not surprised but I'm pretty sure the majority of fighters are using. All these chair warriors saying "real combat" and then boxing is not. Let me tell you something. I was in the marines. Had 7 amateur boxing fights in usa boxing. And trained in mma and sparred pro mma fighters and fought now pro boxers. BOXING is as serious and elite as it gets. Pros on tv make it look easy with unmentionably advanced defense. If they dropped their hands they would all be unconscious. Mma has more knockouts because they leave themselves wide open. This exposes it. It is what it is. I def give that guy props for going in the mayweather gym. He did very well. But lemme tell you the boxer is scary. You guys dont know the adrenaline felt against a fighter that scary and the power against your head of those punches. You cannot understand if you have not fought a sanctioned amateur fight, ATLEAST. It is not a fucking joke. I have had broken ribs, noses, concussions all from boxing. And people forget the amount of deaths in boxing. And kovalev was mentioned in these comments, who killed one of his opponents after putting him in a come he did not come out of. Mma is no fucking joke either but god damn people do not know how insanely deep water serious war boxing is man. Most people make it all through life without ever knowing the feeling of really getting a real proper ass beating. They live in a bubble and say mma is real fighting because its a fucking bar fight usually, with dudes swinging like they are in a bee hive and leaving their jaw open. They call that jaw spot the lights out spot in boxing because your nervous system goes through there and anyone can be dropped if they get hit on the jaw line..

      you're a moron. mma has more knockouts because fighters have to worry about more than just head and body shots. they constantly worry about leg kicks and takedowns leaving themselves exposed. they also don't have giant gloves protecting their whole head. head kicks and flying knees are more brutal than a right hook. i can tell you dont watch mma so please quit acting like you do

    • @WolfedOut
      @WolfedOut 5 лет назад

      Yeah, if you actually trained MMA, you would know that you were spewing bullshit. If you think Boxing is the elite shit, you've never been in a Muay Thai ring. Get knee'd in the solar plexus and we'll see how elite you are. Lying piece of shit.
      P.S. People die in Boxing because it has ancient and stupid rules. Smashing your head to the canvas 4 times in a fight isn't tough or elite, it's stupid and unnecessary. If you drop and can't survive 1-3 shots, you have no business fighting any longer.

  • @NY-Dani
    @NY-Dani 7 лет назад

    Nice sparring. Rockhold was getting outclassed but did a really good job of hanging in there and getting from the session what he needed. Full credit to him. I'm sure the boxer also benefited because he'll probably face those limited type tough guy brawlers in his career so he was able to sharpen his jab and experience getting roughed up. Rockhold was winding up his punches and he landed a few which will give him confidence as he had a pretty elusive target. The guys he fights in real won't have that kind of boxing talent so he's working at a higher level than the reality he will face in that particular discipline of boxing. If he replicates that kind of training and works with olympic wrestlers etc, then he's in a strong position.

    Its always amazing to me to watch MMA fighter and boxer spar, to see how concrete boxers are with their punches, follow ups and feints, while MMA fighters are uncertain while throwing from boxing stance, and are unsure how to proceed with combinations because boxer are out of their reach just like that. And this happens even with good MMA strikers like Luke. these are the facts that get me afraid for Conor because I want him to win. It will be a show tho

UFC fighters do not have the fast twitch muscle memory in elite striking from childhood. As soon as any half decent boxer learns basic takedown defense they become champions. MMA fighters are bums. Need to focus on not getting ko'ed on bully beatdown

    • @ShinigamiUchihax2
      @ShinigamiUchihax2 7 лет назад +1

      willman808 Depends dude... A lot MMA fighters rely heavily on boxing... Didn't Mcgregor beat Aldo, Mendes, Alvarez, portier with pure boxing?? lol
      Liddell, Nick Diaz, Fedor (to some degree), Anderson Silva, Bisping, Holly holmes, Conor and Cody are all active fighters that rely heavily on boxing.. But you want to tell me an MMA fighter will demolish a well crafted boxer in the street.. Depends.
      Well if a guy with intermediate boxing skills like Conor beat a well rounded martial artist like Eddie Alvarez with his left hand only it wouldn't surprise me that guys like Golovkin, Canelo, Kovalev, Anthony Joshua (6"6/250lbs+) Paquiao can also provide ass whoppings to MMA fighters in a street fight. Boxers are well conditioned, have amazing footwork some of them know more than one discipline and know how to position punches better than your average MMA fighter...
      Just look how superior an MMA fighter with good boxing looks compared to their opponents.

      Yangel Senpai Aldo was one punch, from a karate style stance. Porier ate punches kicks knees elbows, as did Alvarez. Mendes took like 20 kicks to the body so I stopped reason the rest of your shit. That's not pure boxing, nothing about it from his stance, to his gloves to his foot work was ever pure boxing. no dude u need to look at fucking reality man. luke rockhold is a humble man. going into another mans world to learn as much as he can. He does not think that he is a good boxer. watch the interview afterwords. If Tabiti did mma sparring with rockhold he would get put to sleep or thrown on his head within 1 minute. Of course Tabiti is better at boxing. Tell us something we don't know dude.

    • @ErikChainsawCharles

      res pect Reality is that your response changes nothing about my statement nor disproves any point that I made. Rockhold being humble doesn't change the fact that MMA fighters tend to think they can box with real boxers. Tabiti losing an MMA match against Rockhold doesn't change the fact that the footwork that you can clearly see Rockhold doing here needs major improvement. You being emotional over Rockhold doesn't make him a better boxer.

    he's a really good boxer just loads up on his shots watch how the other guy just fires right from were his hands are and it allows him to put together combos and set luke up while Luc throw's 2-3 shots and there all with power so he cant keep throwing the Diaz brothers are a perfect example of what i'm trying to say its a common misconception every shot needs to be 70-80% to be effective just let it fly with technique than use your power when the shot is there after you opened him up, boxing in MMA is a tough thing because guy's in MMA cant put much weight on there front leg or it will get kicked off when in boxing getting inside is all about that front leg stepping in quick at the right time i'm a boxer so maybe there's something more to it i'm not seeing which would explain why he's doing it that way but its a common thing in MMA you see guy's winging 2-3 punch combos with punches and not much more the Diaz brothers are a perfect example of making a career of exploiting that you can see it in any one of there fights

    • @danielbelcab
      @danielbelcab 8 лет назад

      Great analysis. That side-on stance is not much good in boxing too. It works really well when you're a southpaw that likes to kick with power and counter with a right hook but it takes away your ability to throw a good left straight with subtlety. Conor can do it well from a similar stance but he has good understanding and sets it up well. Luke is pretty much hoping for the best trying to grab flies here.

    • @robertgennaro8075
      @robertgennaro8075 8 лет назад

      ya your right bout that his stance is much more to cater to that left kick... if he could kick he'd take this dude's head off with one shot haha,, and mcgregor has the best left hand in the UFC no fat on that tech at all no one see's it until its right in there face

    • @danielbelcab
      @danielbelcab 8 лет назад

      +Robert Gennaro McGregor sets it up with his kicks and also by making the double threat of the right uppercut. Not to mention that he mostly throws it as a counter. But his opponents can't predict if he will be throwing his left or if he is just feinting to get a right uppercut in --- not until it's too late, like you said

    • @undeadpresident
      @undeadpresident 8 лет назад +1

      +califilipino I think it's just because boxing is a well established sport while MMA is still new in it's modern form. Also, MMA has taken a lot from the boxing manual in how it's conducted (such as implementing gloves, rounds, breaking fighters if they are up close with too little action). MMA rules have changed to turn the matches into more of striking matches than in the past, because it's the kind of action many people like to see. Personally I think MMA would be better without the implementation of rounds and gloves and breaking them up. They determined that the increased popularity and money that comes with it is more important though than having a slightly safer and more pure MMA fight though.

    the boxer gave him some decent sparring there. mma fighter usually have zero head movement so they get touched alot with the jab. and if you just keep coming forward the head will always be there so you land alot. then they start dropping the hands and getting wild. it's crazy to see rockhold lifting the back foot to throw the left straight! from a boxing perspective that's really surprising. but don't get me wrong an mma fighter could stop a boxer in many ways. it's interesting to see high level mma fighters box because the footwork is so wierd. Coll to see though. respect to both guys the boxer was sharp and obviously held back and let luke work. good to see intelligent sparring. it can get really messy when different Sports spar each other. mma guys in particular get really wild.

I could give you a break if they weren't using headgear but this here is a sparring session with both guys going no more than 75% and wearing gear --- this is normal. See any boxer (and even MMA fighters, just look for videos of the Diaz bros training or Silva) training and it will be just the same.
      I wonder if you complain to your BJJ teacher when a training partner grabs your wrist too hard as well.

      +intactGB Your a novice in boxing and it shows by your ignorant statements. When you step your experience and training up you'll understand. He fought Luke at Luke's level and kept him there, kept it competitive without knocking him out. Luke didn't have a bad word to say about the training, so why are you crying?

    mma striking is laughable

    • @vespaman101
      @vespaman101 8 лет назад +14

      +Axe Battler is it...because thats how he did without using any kicks... at all.. or any elbows or clinching or knee's. There was 1000 times where that guy could have easily had his head kicked off. Or a simple leg kick would have downed him and changed that whole fight up.

    • @Iggy14
      @Iggy14 8 лет назад +9

      +Axe Battler Luke would fucking destroy this dude if he could kick him and grapple, boxing is only one dimension of fighting. Andrews chicken legs would have given out with one leg kick i can guarantee you, also the glove difference is insane, talk to me when boxers use mma gloves, shit is basically a bare knuckle fight.

    • @axebattler6604
      @axebattler6604 8 лет назад

      so the gloves are partly to blame for the shitty striking?

    • @Iggy14
      @Iggy14 8 лет назад +1

      Axe Battler He doesn't have shitty striking lol, just not boxing striking and movement, MMA movements and stances are useless if u can't actually throw the techniques, he's only using his hands which is and eight of what his body is capable of dishing out

    • @247617
      @247617 8 лет назад +2

      +Axe Battler obviously his hands cant be as good as someone who does only that. is that such a hard concept to understand. its like saying people in basketball have laughable running compared to usian bolt or some better comparison

    my problem with boxing has always been that its all about landing punches and not so much about damage meaning you could lightly tap your opponent in the face really fast and it counts as a punch witch is the reason why floyd was so successful

    • @temujinartem2375
      @temujinartem2375 Год назад +1

      Dawg what. Boxers throw hard ass punches you aren’t right for this. Also Floyd was successful because of his defenence and ring iq not bc he was allowed to hit softer

  • @sombrerosamurai

    What most people in the comments dont seem to understand is how different boxing for MMA and boxing for boxing is. MMA fighters typically fight at kicking range. The range is different the footwork is different the stuff you have to pay attention to is different. Lukes striking looks crisp in MMA opposed to here for a few reasons. 1. This is sparring 2. They are fighting at a different range 3. Luke has vicious kicks that most of his opponents are worried about leaving them more open for punches to land. Different sports. Respect both for what they are.

    Man this entire time there were soooo many opportunities for elbows and his beast of a left kick. But props to him for stepping inside a boxing ring to work on his boxing, his check hook is great and his straight left but he kept getting peppered with that jab. But boxers only have to work on boxing whereas Luke has a bjj black belt and he is a beast on the ground, he has great Kickboxing, great Muay thai this will is great for him because his boxing wasn't very good but i think he did okay considering the fact the Mayweather gym has very good boxers even amateurs.

      Theres openings to kicks because these guys arent training kickboxing dummy. Its not something thats in the back of their mind, stop using it as a way to cope for the fact that mma fighters and you cant box.

    Amazing how a lot of these MMA fighters have zero jab. The jab pretty much did him in this whole sparring session. I don't box or do martial arts anymore but even when I did, i used the hell out of the jab because people just look for the big over hand rights.

    I agree people talk about Luke getting hit with a lot of jabs but if it was vice versa and the boxer was in a octagon how many kicks you think he would land before realizing you can't fight like a boxer in there
