I once took a chance on a really filthy MS361 that was going to be a project for $150 shipped. I was fully planning on a rebuild project,so first thing I did was pull muffler and saw a beautiful piston, then checked compression and it was 150lbs...It had been marked "not working" 7 years prior,so what was the problem? The decompression valve was pushed in!
I've had a couple good flips in the past, but my go-to is lawnmowers usually. One time someone was selling a near new lawnmower at a yard sale for $10. It was only 2 years old and they said it wasn't running. I gave them the $10 and came home to find that the spark plug was very loose and that's why it had no compression. I tightened it up and it ran like brand new. I sold it for $140 a few days later. It's nice when things work in our favor once in a while
I use to purchase saws on Fee Pay to refurbish, and sell for cost. I didn't refurbish the saws to make money on. I only expected to only break even. I got sick of people offering me way less than what I had in parts. One person attempted to get me to sell them a complete running saw for less than what I paid for the bar, and chain. I will happily buy a nice antique saw to work on for myself.
Pull the starter off and clean up the flywheel side and then clean and lube the PTO side. I then replace the fuel line, filter and pressure test the tank and vent. It looks pretty good, about like what I see from EBay. My 025, which I bought recently, was in similar condition, albeit without the missing paint.
I bought an early white plastic 020av i was going to steal the coil from for parts for $100. It was crazy dirty but after looking it over and cleaning it up all it needed was an impulse and fuel line I was amazed how nice condition it was. Filled it up with gas and oil and it runs perfect now i use it all the time. It usually starts first or second pull.
You will like the 440. Mine is one of my favorite saws. I built it in 2019. Lugging around, I like my ms 360 but for pure power the 440 is hard to beat.
@@mrxlh Honestly people are paying silly money for pro saws in non-working condition. It almost makes more sense to sell a project saw in a box than doing a proper restoration. Look at some closed listings on ebay and there's not that much difference in $$ for a running saw than one that needs a rebuild and missing parts. I have no idea where this line of thinking comes from.
I’ve been burnt by people that knew what they were selling. A ms362 that the crank had blown a hole in between the oil tank inside the case, an ms460 “running” with bad bearings would not run. I rebuilt them I am also very avid about writing Honest Chainsaw Seller to keep thieves knowingly taking advantage of folks. Nice vid very good purchase😊
@@richardflagg3084 Hey Richard, congrats on getting this 440 sold at a decent price - I was watching it creep up there and actually thought it would go higher....
@@902hand7 Needed to be in better cosmetic condition paint wise to get much more out of it. I'm pretty happy where it landed and I'll do a follow up on it in a couple of days. When the settlement comes from Ebay I'll share the net profit.
I have bought a couple Florida saws and it seems like they cut something that causes corrosion around the chain area, sometimes bad pitting in older saws. I thought maybe it was from salt water? Palm trees?

Nice find! That looks like one of the old pre epa muffler casings you put on there. I’m surprised you didn’t have to put seals in it!
Aside from the paint loss, it seems to be pretty a pretty low hour unit.

Man i'd run that in a heartbeat. I kinda like the rat-rod stuff. For all the missing paint that thing is sound as hell.

Great find!!!
Not typical in my experience. I say politely I may have been overdue. Kudos to the seller.
Once in a while you find that diamond in the rough. You should be able to come close if not double your money. Good job.
Even the sun shines on a dogs ass every once and a while. I've had my share of duds. It's always a crap shoot, but I think I'll do ok with this one.
What’s your take on splitting it an re powdering the cases? Straight flip makes more money than full rebuild and woods port?

Great video I just bought a 440 off marketplace. Not as good a condition as yours but i'm definitely using your video to go through some things
Great find👍🏻 that'll help wash the bitterness of past, unsavory sales away!
It's always an adventure with any used saw. i definitely got luck this time.
Nice find, ebay can go either way. 👍👍👍
You got that right!!
Salt water? Maybe lifted the paint? Nice old saw.

Keep it man there a classic 👌
Great Job Rich!
Better lucky than good.........
Man, you got lucky - it's usually a crap shoot on Fleabay. Sweet saw and you'll def make a few bucks. 👍👍
Been there for sure.

@@902hand7 It's shameful. Stay tuned.
Good buy!
What do you use to clean them up?
I'm 6 old stihls in all off ebay 009 009L 024av 08 051av 020av and a ms200t in all oem all new parts to port. All but the 200t run
Piston wasnt scored from all that chips?
Richard my 440 is completely oem and has no decomp have you heard of that ?.
Yup. All of the early 044's were non-decomp. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a 440 without a decomp. Must be an early one. Great runners.
@@richardflagg3084 il send you a pic mate what's your email it runs awesome 👌
haha i was lookin at that hoping the tax return would show up in time
I’d say that’s the deal of the day Rich!!!
Nice!
Damn Richard got a good one!
I'd call that a win..🤙🏻😎
Scored on that one!
Time to buy a few lottery tickets with that kinda luck. Gary
🤣🤣🤣
German over-engineered air filtration at it’s finest!!!
These filters aren't that bad. If this one hadn't been beaten to death it would prolly be ok.
SAAAAAAWWWWWHEET SAW
