This simple DIY Mod made our BMW M4 way louder!

- Ever since we get our first car we find ways to try and make it louder. Problem is not everyone has the money for a brand new muffler. Luckily many cars today are fitted with something call a butterfly valve which essentially modulates the sound of our cars to keep them quite. Today I am going to show you how to disregard sound regulations and find your inner teen because I do the BMW M4 Butterfly Valve mod!
Enjoy!

Sweet I just need an m4
Same
🤣🤣
If you put it in sport plus with the ignition on, engine off, and you press the gas petal all the way to the floor the exhaust valve opens. That way you don’t have to drive around and hope it stays open.
Tyler Smith an even easier way is use the M1 M2 programmable buttons. You get in the car, hit it twice and bam open. 😁
Yes that's true. But I've noticed on my M4 CP, even when I put it in sport mode and the valves are open and drive around say with a passenger and drop the passenger off somewhere thus opening the door of the car, it reverts back to valves closed and not in M mode. Hence maybe best I do the valve delete mod as that way it will always be open and sound bit louder....
Suhail Jamil it’s ridiculous. They give you the option to open and close yet the car still does it itself
@@matthewa123456 yes absolutely. Lol
Suhail Jamil i noticed with the cp, before you start it put ignition on then sport plus and hold down accelerator pedal for like 10 seconds then start the car and it will start with valves open and stay open
Great tip, but you don’t have to keep the car running. Warm it up in M Sport, shut it off and valve are still open, this way you aren’t working around hot mufflers.
Worked for me!
Thanks for the knowledge! I ended up going with the control module for my M4. Living in Vancouver, there is way too much rain to even consider the exposed wires. For $300 to control the flap function, it was well worth the money for me. I have also read on many forums that disconnecting the wires sends soft fails - maybe harmless, but I'm too risk adverse! Enjoy that sound fellas
which system did you for $300?
I live in Toronto which control module did you buy
Dyllon, well done chap, great mechanical skills.
I’m doing this with my w205. Thanks!
I’m driving a bmw F10 520(N20 engine) with a supersprint quad exhaust. May I find out if this will work for my car?
Hi I have bmw x5m 2017 akrapovic exhaust and it’s the same do you think we should pull it out
Great men we say hi from Mexico and thanks
I am about to do the same on my m2c, will unplug the wire throw codes on the dash?
I know and am aware as to the fact this is an old video, but just as a heads up, this normally will trigger off the check engine light after a while, once the car notices that there is an open circuit there, this is a kinda well known trick, and there is a second one on the other side, personally I use and would suggest the use of BimmerLink, it removes the risk of the check engine light, and comes with a bing of other neat features, look it up yourself, otherwise, be careful as prolonged use of the valves like that, may cause the valve to being rattling later on, simple fix though, plug it back in and cycle it (open an close the valve, you do this by setting the car in efficient, then sports plus and tap the gas, the valve will then open, keep in mind this will work regardless if the ignition is on or you started the engine) hope this small bit of info helps if anyone ends up running into an issue
Any idea where this plug is on an F06 M6? I can’t find it!
Hey , I have a 2020 m4cs & I have tow of that on my car , should I do one or all tow of them ?
Do you think it is the same in a 530e G30 4 Zylinder M-Performance?
Cool video! But there should be an identical butterfly valve in the outer right pipe too, with its own electrical connector, unless this varies between the US and Europe due to different regulations or something.
NorwegianSpirit I was thinking the same thing
But what's the difference with the flaps open on Sport mode?
Great tip. Thanks for sharing. Will definitely try this on my new M2 once I get through the first break in service at 1500 miles.
My mini-van sounds like this..., only downside is getting winded, and constantly cleaning spit off my steering wheel and windshield. I’m not allowed to use the sport exaust when my wife’s in the van LOL. Seriously though..., great tip for that baffle mod. That thing sounds amazing!
So I have a 2018 320i bmw and it’s leased. Was looking for tips and hacks on how to make it louder without having to get fuxked over when I hand it back in in two years. Would this trick work with a three series ? Can anyone help or point a fellow bmw lover in the right path to a louder and satisfying sound of a car like mine lol I literally just want to make it louder but without paying a crazy amount the cheaper the better! Thanks
Does it throw a code when you unplug that?
Is M mode just sport plus?
Are those 90mm exhaust tips ?
This gave me an engine management light what should I do?
Super, any error in computer board?
can you do this with a 420d ??
I don’t know if the same goes for these cars but every now and then you need to plug in the flap so it can move or find a way to clean out the moving parts. I had a 335i with the vacuum powered flaps and someone did the golf tee mod. Since flap didn’t move for so long, it seized up. I bought a value controller and had to get a whole new muffler.. big headache
dats why u put the tape
@@sleepsounds5455 Yeah but you’re missing what I’m saying, if you leave the flap open for way too long it’ll seize itself
What size tips?
Nice👌👌
Where in CA are you? I’m in LA and OC and I’ve got an M4 too, maybe we could cruise sometime!
I’m in SD but DM me on insta if your ever in the area. Always down to cruise to a car event.
Night and day! Wow. My 335i e93 has a butterfly valve too but I think it’s on the other side. Maybe I will do mine now! Thanks @LuxuryLivesOn
It is also on the left on the 335i
You can do the same by just removing fuses 146&147 once the car is on and the valves open.
Orestes Jimenez Interesting. Similar to the fuse 22 mod on my Aston
Would you happen to know if this works on 18 m3??
Hey after an year, does the tape melt since it’s close to the exhaust?
Nope it was fine we also used electrical tape too. If you few more comfortable every few months it will take you 5mins to redo it
I have a toggle switch wired to my centre console that controls the open/close.
George K how did u do that?
How did you do this please advise
Will this make it throw an error code?
You do know you can start your car with valves open anyway ??
Is it standard exhaust
Interesting for sure. I might try it on my 2009 750Li.
My 7 probably doesn't have flaps though.
Side note dad has an m4 and the exhaust valves are on both sides
Do you must turn on the car?
Love it! I might just give this a try (I mean, why not? My neighbors already “like” how the GT350 exhaust note rattles their brains upon start-up) . I am going to find/create an all-weather cover for both male/female exposed connection points, and zip tie the male end on to a point that is as far away (as possible) from the exhaust.
isn't this what the exhaust button does though?
Did mine today thanx.
Beasr mode
Error free on computer?
Yes
You don’t even need to start the car to open flaps just put in sport n depress accelerator pedal you’ll hear valves open ;)
Easier to pull the fuses. 146 and 147 in the boot if i remember correctly (m2 comp) also DO NOT stick your connector port inside a rubber bush to 'protect' it 😂
Is it safe to constantly drive the car with both fuses removed, won’t cause any damage to the car?
@@simonarmstrong8699 not caused me any issues yet. If anything its less risk than unplugging things
s c that’s great thanks, I just unplugged the 2 fuses today and sounds great I was just a bit worried.
I think you might live in the same city as me
Had butterflies on both sides though in uk
Jeremy Jeremy did it bring any errors on dash ?
why is bmw stock exhaust so quiet
do all cars have that plug or just m4
All
Love it mate m4 is my fave but I'd take m2 n55 engine over any car on earth
Beka Machurishvili n55 life. Also sounds way better. The m4 sounds like a ricer civic tbh
What business is this guys family in? Does anyone know?
Hi is that on the stock exhaust?
Yes
I just blip the throttle right after mine starts cold for awesome idle sound. I know it doesn't stay open forever but it's awesome sounding and simple to do.
And no errors in the dash after? 🤔
j. Hänni None what so ever
Did this bring any errors on the dash?
Hanny X No, did this 3 weeks ago
does it give u any check engine light?
Juned Alvi Nope
If Cars Could Talk how about now?
Press the start button once (foot off the brake) change to sport plus…. Push the throttle all the way down, then start the car…. It keeps the valve open until you turn the car off
I would not recommend this because you will get errors. I did the same to my f30 328i, after one month I plugged the connector back in. Now when I plug in my OBD tool it can still find errors from this.
Got 0 errors over 3 yrs
this may sound stupid but i cant get the connector off haha
Nick Veres Try use a little flat head. Those clips put up a mighty fight sometimes!
I couldn’t get mine of used a plier and applied a bit of pressure top and bottom both came of
Do a Rolls-Royce exhaust modification video😉
Lol
is this even stock?
Jason Kong “Yes” 😉
@@IfCarsCouldTalk nice
get a proper exhaust. it is a 4.20d exhaudt with quad pipes
I think all the ppl who drive down my street at 4 am followed this tutorial
Video starts at 6:36
Stock exhaust?
Kevin Richardson yes it’s stock with just different add on tips.
Let’s rev on cold start. Lol
DONE LOL
Why rev your car on cold start
More like a blip
Siq
There’s no way that one little piece of electrical tape is going to protect those plug pins from corroding over time......Especially in the states that have rain and humidity or ice and snow
There are plastic inserts you can buy as an alternative and where I live it’s 72 degrees and sunny everyday ☺️
Ball bag🙈🍀
With the engine off, you select “sport” or “sport plus” mode, then press the gas pedal, automatically the flag will open. You don’t have to disconnect this rear circuit and all the stuff in this video..
no. it's only apply to cold start
Lol lose the eBay license plate cover
BMW
Buy a Bimmerlink is the only correct answer...Take a shot everytime he says M4... I have a 23 m4 competition convertible in Brooklyn Grey with bloody guts and I dont think ive said M4 this many times in my life... Try saying car lol
I couldn't hear anything over your painted on pants
why are you screaming?
Don't do that; just used a deck of cards,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
No need to do it because m4 is louder
Ugliest car ever
