    Your reviews are so thorough. I recently picked up a 996tt in the hopes that it would be a fun car to drive while working from home and not seeing a terrible drop in value over time. Per your analysis, it doesn’t feel like I was far off. When you said, “collector car status”, I truly got excited. You made my night. Also, your beard is looking good!

    Great review as always. Hagerty calls the 996 911 Turbo the budget 959. It is. I have a nice manual 2005 Turbo S. It cost 150K in 2005. I think they will only go up as people understand what they are. Analog, manual twin-turbo 911 that is small and yet somewhat modern. Cheers

    Did u consider seasonality ( summer more attractive for cabriolet)

    • @fourwheeltrader
      @fourwheeltrader  2 года назад

      This is something which i would like to do in the future. There are some seasonalities in car prices in general and especially when it comes to cabriolets. Yet, it requires more data and at a more consistent interval.

    Fantastic & impressive analysis as always. Totally agree w/your assessment that 996TT on the way to being collectible-it combines the rough mechanical feel of air-cooled with its Mezger engine (964 crankcase), supercar performance (engine & chassis), as well as modern reliability (cf air cooled & 996 Carrera both embodying respective engine issues). It is a very different car to standard 996 Carrera variants, which are much more civil and have more affinity to 997 and even 991 Carrera generations--smooth to drive as excellent sports cars but not have that exotic feel. This observation comes from first hand experiences of owning and/or having extensive use of these cars, including the 996TT.

  • @jorgej5916
    @jorgej5916 2 года назад +7

    The NA 996's have IMS potential issues. The 996 Turbo, GT3 and GT2 are the only engines without the IMS issue as they are the legendary Mezger Engines which are almost indistructible just like the Nissan GT-R engines. In addition, the 996 Turbo and GT2 turbos will be the latest and rarest 3.6L Turbo remain in the Porsches line up.

    • @codyk-2144
      @codyk-2144 2 года назад

      Hardly indestructible. Both the 996tt and the r35 gtr require internal engine parts once you get over 700 wheel. Strong motors but hardly indestructible

  • @darrensurrey
    @darrensurrey 2 года назад +3

    The problem in the UK is that it's hard to find an interesting replacement with a similar level of "exoticness". The R8 and GTR are about £10k more than the cheapest 996T, for instance (and if I had a budget for £40k-£50k, I'd probably get a 997T). And compared to a more modern, fast car eg a BMW or Mercedes at a similar pricepoint £30k-35k, it feels more special.
    So it still makes the 996T an attractive proposition for me.

      @@MrQboT correct. The X51 package includes upgraded heads, intake manifold, headers etc. on the M96 engine.
      X50 is turbo-specific and includes larger K24 turbos, intercoolers, different tuning, and some other minor tweaks I believe.

    I love your analysis! For all the vehicles that I've seen you review, it is very informative and explains factors that I didn't take into consideration or, rather, I didn't weigh one factor as much as I could have (mileage in this example, weighing in way higher than I would have thought). Of course, then 997 and the 991 would be good, subsequent, reviews please.

    • @IanCanefire

      Cabriolet: The back seat design is a mistake in the cabriolet as it leans you forward thus not as usable as a coupe. The material of the retractable roof starts to get damaged at the lower corner points on both sides at 80,000 miles or 20 years of regular usage so into the future a fix will be needed if you want an immaculate look as exterior patina is not appreciated on a porsche. So sell before repair of the roof. If you don’t mind that sort of thing and are not into track the cabriolet turbo S is where the bargain is.
