@@christian_urocar I’m not entirely sure quite yet, I just got it about a couple weeks ago and on the 16th I’m getting my fluids replaced and engine serviced and looked into, it drives and doesn’t show any signs of issues, I was informed the ims was replaced. Once I get to that point I’ll know if there is any issues and if not then solid :) mainly cosmetics though, needs new paint, window regulators which I know cost quite a lot to get replaced, and some interior things like seats and carpet

As someone who works in financial services and is car mad, this channel is excellent viewing. With the future blueprint of cars moving to hybrid/fully electronic, I would like to see a focus on naturally aspirated cars and the ones to look out for from a modern classic perspective. Investment cars like w204 C63 AMG or E46 M3 are great examples. Other examples that I have tipped on are Ferrari 550 V12 and Ferrari F430 manual. Thanks very much.
If you’re looking for good data, I’d also check out the graphs available on Bring a Trailer. It’s extremely detailed when it comes to valuation not just on the model, but sub model, condition, etc. Your sense on the 550 especially is strong. Despite a fairly significant rise in value, it’s still a bargain compared to where it’s headed. The 430 6 speed is also a great choice-extremely reliable for a Ferrari, which has a major impact on the market. The only thing hurting it is somewhat divisive appearance. Additionally, the added value of the 6 speed has already kind of asserted itself at this stage. For my money though, I’d go with the 550 maranello. Front engine v12 with a gated 6 speed in a drop dead gorgeous shell? Hell, I’m probably stupid for writing this if I ever hope to own one, lol! The AMG you mention is a “good” investment, but with an auto only and an engine that is common across other AMG models of the era, the upside is smaller, though it still certainly exists.
"Porsche Synthetic fuel" being trialled next year ! With Siemens, when this gets the go ahead we hope then watch the prices rocket for all Porsches. I bought my Porsche Turbo for 42k UK sterling just over a year ago with 38000 miles on and just been offered 58k UK sterling. Nope, I'm keeping..Great informative vid thanks.
I’d love to see another 991.1 video on this as well. I’m looking to buy one next year but don’t know if I should buy in now. I don’t know if values will continue to rise or go down in a year.
The Turbo prices behaved weirdly some about 5 years ago. The prices went down quite quickly without any other apparent reason that the turbos had to be renewed and the rear spoiler is often malfunctioning. But honestly the Turbo has the Metzger and thus is even more car for the money than the Carrera. The Turbos have collected typically a lot more miles than the GT3s and I suppose the eventual engine overhaul is bringing the prices down. The Carrera is a lof of car for the money. The Turbo is even more performance for the money. The Turbo is of the order of +100 hp and significantly tested engine with racing pedigree whereas the Carrera engines were designed mostly for ease of production. Recent years you could get a 996 Turbo at 30 000 USD. One thing that lowers the prices is that especially the US cars are often equipped with Tiptronic. Manuals always keep their prices better and in the case of Turbos quite a lot better. Then again, The Tip was a good automatic gearbox of its time. You could argue that the Carrera 4S is more worth money than the Turbo these days, and frankly, it does not make sense. The Turbo is a better car, hands down, but maintenance is certainly more expensive.
I bought mine 2 years ago for 18k with 21k miles, practically new perfect example. But it doesn't matter how much it appreciates, it's so fantastic I could not part with it. Great research, thank you so much!!!!
Great videos. I really appreciate your insights to the 997 market you did a few weeks ago. I’ve watched several of your Porsche videos. Didn’t realize I wasn’t sub’d, so I did. Looking forward to the future market analysis of the 996/997. Hoping to buy a 997 this year. Wish I was in the position a year or so ago.
Would love to see a market analysis of the Acura NSX both the 1990-2005 first gen including the facelifted model from 2002-2005 and an updated analysis on the second generation model from 2016-present.
Great video as always. I would love to see a video elaborating on your thoughts about what happens to 996/997 prices after pandemic. These prices are out of hand lol.
Honestly 996 prices aren’t too crazy , only good examples are C4S models are getting the top dollar . Trust me nobody wants to deal with an IMS problem
I paid $28,000 for my 996 with 32,000 miles in 2018. Yesterday the local Porsche dealer gave me an appraisal for $23,000 (now with 58,000 miles). I had taken the car in for a 4-wheel alignment and he offered to appraise the car. I don't think the dealer appraisal is offensive, but I think I could sell the car (which has the IMS Solution and other maintenance) for about the same as I paid for it.
I think there are two reasons why prices have increased: 1. The pricing hit rock bottom last year mainly due to the fact that they were considered a massive letdown from the previous generation 993, basically a transition from water cooled to air cool and the front light design in both 996.1 and 996.2 models. 2. The supply has massively decreased, with more models showing up with lower mileage. So if supply holds steady, then pricing will increase.
I bought my very early build (March 1998) 1999 manual coupe with 89k miles four years ago for $11,500. It was sold with an electrical issue that turned out to be a bad ground that I found the day I bought it. I did have to buy a new alternator. It has been a great car.
Great as always. You know I’m the squeaky wheel always asking for the 986 Boxster. I wish we could have seen a before/after supply shortage on it, because it seems like cheap first gen Boxsters are becoming rare.
You're forgetting about the best 996 on the market, the limited 40th-anniversary edition. 1963 made. Only 80 were introduced into the US market. Only 30HP less than the same year GT3. Please include it. Thanks. Great video.
They might not sell their 996s and 997s they bought a few months ago.. but if we pop into a recession in a year or two.. they'll sell their cars. Very nice analysis.
im not so sure. these are the more affordable 911s and I'd guess that has a lot to do with the fact that they've increased so much. depending on who's buying these cars, then yeah, they may sell their newer 911 and keep the old ones hah. there's not much supply so cynical me thinks with all the money sloshing around it could be speculators. wouldn't be surprised if we see bullshit prices soon, which may only be bullshit relative to normal cars and not if we consider air cooled
Good analysis - bought a f.s.h 100,000 mile model yr 2000 c2s 2 yrs ago for £7000 now it’s probably worth £15k ! You were right too on the i8 as prices rising fast now 18 months out of production 🧐
Great video as always. However, if memory serves me correctly, for 996 there were Carrera, Carrera 4, and Carrera 4S but unlike 993 or 997 I don’t think there was a (2WD) Carrera S model, although there was a X50 tuning package. Some people mistakenly enlist their car in the used market as Carrera S when in fact it is a Carrera Tiptronic S; I speculate this may be throwing off some of your detailed analysis, such as the lack of pricing difference between Manual and Auto, although not impacting the global analysis.
It should drop back soon , the 987 Boxster only went up because all porsches went up . The 996 will overall always give you a better return in the future
do you have one on the 996 turbo? I saw you had it on the top 5 appreciating cars but don't really speak about it. Another car that Im curious about is the Phantom VII EWB. They seem to have gone up. But not sure there is enough data out there for a study. I think the production numbers on that car globally where around 50 on average per year. Great content. Thanks
A Honda civic has the same curve post pandemic. Whats even more hilarious is a Range Rover is appreciating faster than many exotics. Now its pay your bill time post pandemic and its exotic car collection time in America with large numbers of new Porsche 992s being repossessed and sold at auction.
Hi guys I love this video, finally someone make video of Porsche 911/996!I got one questions I owe 2004 Porsche 911/996 4s convertible so I want to know how much is worth now thanks
I'm not a Porsche guy but the takeaway for me is new Porsche prices are ridiculously high and so naturally the younger guys are trying to slip into the prestige game with older models. I think it's a decent strategy. The people they are trying to impress (women primarily), are probably not very savvy on Porsches and so they all look the same to them. I'm not into rehabbing cars as it's often uneconomical but the used Porsche prices can kind of of make it work.
I really enjoy your videos, I am wondering if you have any thoughts about the 40th anniversary edition? Do you think it appreciated the same as a 996.24997 or is it different because there is only 800 in North America I am Canadian and 1963 worldwideI would appreciate your input
I've seen more 996 turbos on the road this year since the 997 came about and 996 owners traded them in for the 997. No doubt they have been out there in garages and the roads, but it seems like people in my area who also own newer porsches (991) are buying them back up and driving them.
@@fourwheeltrader I know that full well! The YT algorithm at fault. What I was getting at was how were they expecting Porsche fans to buy a Nissan Juke! Know your audience and your markets. Was not criticising you in the slightest, you do great work. More power to your elbow!
What would you say a 996.1 C4, auto tiptronic with 117,xxx miles, clean title never any accidents would be worth? Im trying to gauge what a good listing price would be for mine.
I want to buy a manual 996 or the cheapest 997 manual with some miles when the prices drop back to more normal.....is that happening soon ?? Sky high prices cant stay beyond high forever.. at some point people w 30k or so buy a different car with more depreciated price.
How would you compare rise in the value of these cars with the rise in inflation and loss of value in the dollar, or compare with the rise in value of the stock market? I am wondering how much there is actual appreciation in value compared to other metrics outside of other car values that may also just be experiencing the rising tide effect.
This video over her includes a comparison to the stock market: ruclips.net/video/-NbxoM9_6SM/видео.html Additionally, many reports which show the adjusted use car price indices also show a significant appreciation. I think that a lot of the value increases are real increases.
The GTR R33 seems to also out of control rising market. I brought for $24k au about 10-12 years ago and be close to $70k and hearing they will keep going to $100k ? Any comment on this. Thanks
Be very careful about what it really means when hearing a car value is going up now (June 2021). All used cars are going up due to virus winding down and pent up demand. Dealers are desperate to get any used cars due t the demand. Part of that demand is because new cars are in shorter supply due to shortage of electronic chips as a result of the virus hampering production. I suspect once the supply goes up, the prices on used cars will retract. The increase in value of any car is likely more as a result of that supply and demand than a big increase in collector value or desirability.
No idea why the 996 have shot up in price, I bought a 2002 c4 with 63k miles in 2014 for 17500 guy was asking 18000 they where hated and you could of bought a regular 911 for under 10 back then. Until someone asked if I was selling mine recently I found out about the prices of theses 996. I'm guessing Magnus Walker made them cool or something lol
My brother bought a 996 C4S two and a half years ago from a Porsche specialist and looking on Autotrader today similar mileage and spec cars are advertised for exactly the same money give or take a grand as they were then so I don’t know.
Was there ever a 996.1 C2S - I dont think so. Was there ever 996.2 C2S - I doubt it. The S was only available in 996.2 C4S. If so the comparison of 4wd and 2wd gets distorted a bit as well as S vs. base model gets distorted - quite a bit actually. The C4S was basically the Turbo car with the Carrera engine. It’s got better brakes and stiffer suspension, wider track. Nevertheless, as a 996 owner it was enjoyable and satisfying to notice how well the car is doing nowadays. I love my car. It is a dead man’s car so it is not for sale unless my kids decide so after Im gone. The best ones are not for sale!
@@amanite5845 Funny, I just installed the X51 extra oil pump and sump to my 1998 C2. X51 was an option pack, with bigger throttle body, aluminium manifold and plenum, extra scavenge pump in the 4-6 head and an enhanced sump tray. It was a pack for track. I think it also had stiffer springs with a lower ride height, but not the M030 sports springs but stiffer. It also had a modified mapping which gave it about +25 hp. Was it an ”S”. I think the X51 was a bit more racier mod than the later esses were. And it was never offered with the wider body. X51s were not sold in big numbers but IMO an X51 pack will raise the present value of the car about 3000-4000 USD/Eur. And actually I think it is worth the money. Otherwise I would not have added the mods myself. Besides the extra (ECU mod) power it gives more reliability due to the oil circuit mods. But anyhow the X51 was not analyzed here. Actually I think X51 was basically the Cup-car mods.
@@fourwheeltrader Also the ”Anniversary” is a clear outlier. They are easily worth 10 000 USD/Eur more than the regular car. Actually, IMO, compared to substance, the Anniversaries are clearly overprised. Good cars though, better than regular but not like +25-30% in worth, substance-wise more like 10-15%. Part reason is the low manufacturing numbers.
@@coreycohen6160 Except it's not. The crankshaft bearings wear out at about 80,000 miles, the camshaft guides wear out around 100,000 miles and the most-likely problem (bore-scoring) is possible from 20,000 miles, which can lead to D-chunking.
@@EvoraGT430 there are plenty of 996s out there with over 100k miles on them which don’t have these problems. A quick google for 996 camshaft guides doesn’t even show up anything on the 1st or second page. I think this is the case of someone who doesn’t want to admit the 996 is a good Porsche and a good value. The styling may not be for everyone but it is an iconic 2000’s car especially the MKII models.
@@coreycohen6160 Okay don't take my word for it, download this: hartech.org/images/downloads/Hartech%20Engine%20Guide%20(interim).pdf BTW I had 2 996s; loved them, but could not stand waiting for the engine to grenade.
@@EvoraGT430 if they are such a problem why doesn’t a google search show it? I too have had two 996s bought from new and still have my GT3, I know it has a different engine, but I drove the Carrera everyday and put over 12k miles a year. These cars aren’t perfect as many have been a abused but a good example with proper maintenance and an updated RMS and IMS bearing are as bulletproof as you can get for an approximately 20 year old sports car. If you really want to talk about weak points in engines take a look at a Ferrari 360 and the things that can go wrong for big bucks but on a maintained car will be fine. I’d be more worried on a 10 year old ferrari waiting for the Dual clutch transmission to eat it’s sensors than I would on a cared for 996 Carrera with the latest updates.
Where was the 996 data on the 997 video? You made it seem like the 997 was the biggest gainer in the last year but now suddenly in this video it's the 996?

I really enjoy your videos, I am wondering if you have any thoughts about the 40th anniversary edition? Do you think it appreciated the same as a 996.24997 or is it different because there is only 800 in North America I am Canadian and 1963 worldwideI would appreciate your input
Can you please look into the values of BMW M6 from years 2006 to 2010! It would be appreciated
Awesome analysis. Thank you.
I've seen more 996 turbos on the road this year since the 997 came about and 996 owners traded them in for the 997. No doubt they have been out there in garages and the roads, but it seems like people in my area who also own newer porsches (991) are buying them back up and driving them.
Hi really enjoy your Chanel can you do a 986 boxster video 👍🏼
Can we see the 993 as well, it has skyrocketed!
Do you see the EU Market the same on The 996 valmue?
Have you ever did a depreciation analysis on the Porsche Panamera Turbo and Turbo S?
Yes, a few weeks ago.
Please review the price trend for R129! Thanks!
I would like you to look at the mercedes 129 series!
Do you have a video pertaining to the C7 Corvette?
I have separate videos for the c7 and Z06, but they are a few months old now.
Fascinating! Thank you.
Toyota Tacoma. They are legendary for having some of the highest resale value.
911 as well
I still know which one I’d rather own, lol.

How on Earth can you put an advert for the new Nissan Juke before this video?
I can't decide on what adds are shown; it's the RUclips algorithm.
@@fourwheeltrader I know that full well! The YT algorithm at fault. What I was getting at was how were they expecting Porsche fans to buy a Nissan Juke! Know your audience and your markets. Was not criticising you in the slightest, you do great work. More power to your elbow!
Can you do a video on the Jaguar XJS and Mercedes 107 cars?
Is there any market analysis for the Boxster S?
This video over her includes a comparison to the stock market: ruclips.net/video/-NbxoM9_6SM/видео.html
Additionally, many reports which show the adjusted use car price indices also show a significant appreciation. I think that a lot of the value increases are real increases.
Danke für dein gutes Video.Liebe Grüsse aus Germany
Diablo Next! Great Vid!
Can you do 991.1 c2s please
Check out this: ruclips.net/video/IoZioXBPW3o/видео.html
Normale che il prezzo salga, è la best buy di questo momento. Veloce, analogica, VTEC per il restyling che è anche molto affidabile!
HAVE YOU DONE A VIDEO FOR 993 ????
Porsche 928. I believe they are on the way up as well.
I presume this would apply to the UK market too?
My brother bought a 996 C4S two and a half years ago from a Porsche specialist and looking on Autotrader today similar mileage and spec cars are advertised for exactly the same money give or take a grand as they were then so I don’t know.
996 Turbo request!
thats why i kept mine
ferrari 360 modena. thanks for the 996 great info
I just did a market update on the 360, check it out.
Why the USA market all the time ? Is that where most followers are , varying the markets would be good uk 🇬🇧 , thankyou
I'm planning to do more content on the European market.
The uk market is fantastic plenty to go at , thank you for the reply 👍 been watching since your 1st vid
Is the 996 C4S same as Carrera S pricing? Don’t think so.
996 s data only includes the '4s' since there doesn't exist a '2s'
@@fourwheeltrader ok, thx. C4S has been getting a lot of attention in last year - was very undervalued
996 turbo, turbo s, x50 model
Sorry bro but there’s no Carrera S models for 996 there’s only the 996 C4S and Turbo( which I’m sure there is no turbo S variant )
As commented, Carrera s data obviously only includes the 4s.
In UK cars prices are rising fast since easing of lockdown
since when there is a 996 Carrera S available? Only a 4S is ever made. The facelift was a 3.6, but that's not called a S.
The s only includes 4s data as there is no 2s.
What about the 993?
The s models are indeed all the '4s' as there is no '2s'.
Sometimes people call the 996 with X51 a "S". In my opinion wrong since there only i one "S" and thats the "4S".
@@Apexjuha Yeah i know, i have it ;) + The X74 Suspension. All stock.
Great video, but I am hard of hearing and struggle to fully appreciate it, could you put real time sub titles please
Wow anyone see the prices of these dropping as car market opens back up?
The 5 people who disliked this video sold at the bottom last year...
His shirt buttons are always under extreme stress.
Almost enough to pay for the inevitable engine rebuilds you will definitely need (GT3 and Turbo excepted).
Many 996 already have upgraded RMS seals and IMS bearings, the weak parts of that engine.
@@coreycohen6160 Okay don't take my word for it, download this: hartech.org/images/downloads/Hartech%20Engine%20Guide%20(interim).pdf
BTW I had 2 996s; loved them, but could not stand waiting for the engine to grenade.
SL500 R230 please.
Where was the 996 data on the 997 video? You made it seem like the 997 was the biggest gainer in the last year but now suddenly in this video it's the 996?
The data was not yet available
I have a 2001 911 996 Carrera Convertable manual 132,000
996 Turbo please
BMW X6M F86 please
996 GT2!
Is this the EV scare? People think they have a limited window of opportunity to experience these older analog cars and they're spending more than they should because they fear these cars will not be around in the future.
I didn’t even know that there were 996s Carrera S 🤔
Naturally, 996 s data only includes the 4s.
S was just trim, NOT a bigger engine, whereas in 997 the S meant 3.8 and not a 3.6
