Any BMW M Power Cars especially the E46 M3....really enjoy the way the data is explained......get content every time.... before buying a car check if the review for your model is on this channel it's a good starting point !
Ferrari 599 and F12? 599 is fantastic value, F12 is the next generation, itd be interesting to see how they compare to eachother from the switch between the F1 auto and double clutch transmissions.
When I got in the Porsche game in the early 2000's, the SC was still frowned upon and god forbid you even mentioned the mid-years. Then it was the 964, which has skyrocketed. Point is, most Porsche models have been "under fire" at some point but ALL have enjoyed significant appreciation with due time. The 996 will be no different. Sadly even the days of cheap 944's are behind us. Nice examples double or tripled in value overnight. As history shows, sometimes the models most disliked by the Porsche loyalists are often the best.
No matter how much the car media wants to hype the new ones, the only Porsches that will really appreciate in the long run are the air cooled classics (impact bumpers, 964 and 993). It's just the way it is. Those are the only cars that are iconic. New 911's are mass produced modern cars that represent completely different era. Only the special models like Turbos and GT's will have collectible value. When this money printing craze is over, only the classics will remain desirable.
I think most people want to see video analysis of modern classics that have already bottomed out such as the 997s GT3 RS, an update on the 1m, E46 CSL, 993 Turbo, etc...
I think those would be indeed very interesting videos. They, however, require at least two different market snapshot.s. It takes a moment to collect these :)
Surly the 996 bottomed out years ago? Around 2016 I guess. You could buy a manual coupe with 60 000 km for around 17k€. The same car with the same milage and condition are now advertised for around 35k€. This is based on a Benelux, Germany location. That's why I don't understand your video, as you still seem to believe the prices may not of bottomed out yet. Am I missing something, or have you taken the data from the car market in the US? Thanks Josh
One other difference is coupe versus convertible. I bought a very early build 1999 C2 manual coupe, built in March 1998. When I searched, there were a lot more convertibles than coupes available. The manual coupes were the most expensive with the automatic convertibles being the least expensive. Most buyers like the upgrades in the 996.2, but the early 1999s have a little bit of a cult following. The early 99s (built in 1998) had a better build quality and they came with the more robust dual row IMS bearing in the engine. My car has 92k miles on the original bearing. I love it. It's been a very reliable car and a lot of fun.
When controlled for other variables such as mileage, model year, and transmission, i found that there was no difference between the coupes and the cabriolets. That's why it is not included in the video. Fully agree, the 996.1 cult is real :)
Great information. Another factor to consider is color for exterior and interior. I agree color is a personal taste factor but some colors are attractive to a much larger portion of the buying market and some colors a very small potion. I guess we should also look into the difference between a cabriolet and a coupe. I've had mine for over 10 years now and only paid $14k. Daily driver and no major repairs.
True. Brighter colors are more rare. It is however difficult to prove statistically that they are more expensive because of the colour due to the limited data points. Between the coupe and the cabriolet I didnt find a significant price difference.
Used car dealers will tell you that black, seal grey, silver, red and white are the most in demand, in that order. Not a personal opinion, just economics. Thanks for your reply.
996 prices are going up a bit more rapid every year. I have owned my C4S now for about a year and i can sell the car for more than I paid but I listed lower. When I was looking there were 996 4S selling from $18,000-$26,999 at the top end and that was average. of course there were a few low mileage models that broke 30 even punching 40. Fast forward one year later and the bottom price right now on cargurus nationwide for a 4S is around $25,000.
Fantastic analysis and videos. Can you keep going down market and do the 993 market values? Would love to see how the last of the air cooled 911s are doing. I still think 993s are perhaps the most beautiful And reliable Porsches ever made. Thanks!
Love all of your videos,. I’m too emotional about these cars, so it’s nice to see someone take a rational look at these car. You do such a great job! Would you be interested in going even older, and looking at the 964 market?
Loving my '99 996 w/ 5k on a refurbished engine. Ceramic IMS and everything you would replace while engine out! Body has 50k . I'm good til 100 k and beyond!
Enjoyed the video at the end you said you were gonna re visit the 996 in about 6 months... any sign .. any chance you can do uk depreciation stats as well ?
Great vid as always. Having recently bought one in the UK I think that manuals don’t seem to be very popular as I think we’re all sick of them over here. Manuals seem to not sell very well even one is in good condition. Obviously circumstantial but something that I noticed.
It’s the price the cars sell for that matters, rather than price advertised. Only time will tell if the 996 value ever rises. I own one but for its own sake not to study market fluctuations.
The actual selling prices are, to my knowledge, not freely available. Therefore, I use the advertised prices as a proxy. You could deduct a certain percentage of the prices and the market would shift down along the y-axis.
Hi. You could also look at time that car has been advertised and if price has been lowered. If it’s been advertised for a number of weeks obviously it doesn’t reflect market value. Advertised price seldom resembles sale price in my experience. I paid about 10% less than advertised price for my C4 996 , dealer friend would have offered 25% less so advertised prices are very unreliable. Good luck
Very good info. If possible. I’d like to see one more variable. Coupe, convertible and very rare Targas. My guess you see the Targas having the highest spike due to being rare and then the coupes. From what I see, at the time, convertibles are about 75 percent of the sales market and then coupes and targa.
I checked the difference between the coupes and the carbiolets but didn't find a significance difference when accounting for all the other variables. That's why i didn't mention it in the video.
These haven't gone up price wise in years people opt for other models and seem to skip over the 996.I had my Turbo advertised for months and months with very little interest
I think COVID-19 will put a stop to any short term rises. Then once that is dealt with the coming ban of and change in attitudes socially towards ICE cars will stop any long term ones. Certainly here in the U.K. anyway. Buy them to enjoy not to invest in. 👍🏻
Wrong. Classic car market is surging due to CV19 for a variety of reasons. BAT has seen record traffic. Prices on the rise. It's having the opposite effect from what most people have anticipated. UK is irrelevant.
Funny how the 996 bread and butter cars are cheap as chips but the 1999 996.1 GT3 and 2003 996.2 GT3/GT3Rs are holding up very well. My pal bought a T Reg 95k 996 for just £13,500 it did drive like a big todd though if I'm honest and he sold it in 4 weeks later for £15k 996 good value though!
Things is there are 5 pages full on the classifieds- still no where near rare enough yet for prices to rise significantly- although a coupe manual should always be attractive- 997 is much better looking car to be fair although still has the engine issues on the the pre facelift.
@@fourwheeltrader i was hoping you would focus on the ZR1 corvette. i have seen your other videos on the corvette and the ZR1 is not mentioned from what i remember. You did do a video on the Z06 but not the ZR1.

Indeed. Apart from the C4S and Turbo. A manual 1998-1999 Carrera 2 is the way to go.
