If you are buying a Boxster and factoring in depreciation ... you are doing it wrong. Life is short. But the most / newest Porsche Boxster you can afford. Drive it daily. Take it to the track. Put 10s of thousands of miles on it. I guarantee you will be smiling the whole time. One of the most amazing cars ever made and meant to be driven hard.
Thanks so much for doing this. Will be interesting to see how the 718 4 cylinder will do in 3-5 years compared with the older 981 with the flat 6. My susp is that 718 4 cylinder will depreciate a bit faster than the 981. Excluding spyders, The 981 Base/S/GTS and 718 GTS 4.0/25 years should be treasured as the ICE age gives way to electric. That being said, the 718 is still fun to drive as well. So it may become the steal of a deal once it’s value falls below a certain level.
I just drove one at the Porsche Driving Experience ATL and it’s such a great car. I think it’ll hold up just fine. There’s great aftermarket support for them.
Well, my opinion is a little different. With the advent of the electric vehicle era, it is unlikely that a naturally aspirated or turbo engine will be a major issue. As if the difference between an air-cooled Porsche and a water-cooled Porsche and its scarcity value are gradually fading (both are just loud farting machines from the point of view of an electric car) However, the 4-cylinder 718 Boxster equipped with a turbo engine is the only model with a 4-cylinder among the Boxster generation, and I think it is likely to have a scarcity value in the distant future. Minimalist... lightweight roadster! how cool isn't it?
@@Trollyoo Not very cool. In the future when combustion machines are rare, people want the combustion experience. A middle motor 6 cylinder will beat a fuel optimized 4 any day of the week.
Thank you! Your timing is excellent because I just bought a 986.1 Boxster to share garage space with my Cayman GT4 and Honda Civic Type R. FYI I paid $13,000 for an 80K miles, 5 speed, silver/red 1999 with factory hardtop from a Porsche dealer with IMS, tires and recent service done. I chose the 986.1 because I think it has a cooler vintage look while the 987 is more modern, but I already own modern and wanted something different. I also think these will increase in value with the earlier ones being rarer in decent shape. The only reason I chose this particular car is because it came from Westmont Porsche which is part of the Porsche Classic program for 20th Century cars sold through authorized Porsche dealerships, which added confidence in it.
Thank you so much for your in depth analysis. Luckily, I owned a pre-own 981 base model year 2015 a year ago. And, the market price here for the model is still the same.
Thank you brother! Always enjoy your videos. Could you do the BMW M2 Competition next? I’ve seen the available used 2019 and 2020’s vanish from the Market recently
The '718' is not a generation, it's a model number like the '911'. The official generation is '982'. The next generation will also be called '718 Boxster/Cayman' but with a different generation number (983 perhaps?)
I’d like to know what you think about the prices between 981 PDK vs 6sp? I’ve looked FOREVER for a nice 6sp 981 S.. They seem very hard to find! How will that effect long term value? That said, the PDK is nice, and quicker! 🤷🏼♂️
Good review. Please do a review of late 80s/early 90s Honda civics next. Got my 1990 Civic 2 years ago for $1800 with 225,000 miles and a large dent in the right rear quarter panel. I love the car (and occasionally race it) but am looking to upgrade to a 2000 Accord V6 (again, to race) with 198,000 miles. With used car prices through the roof, do you think I could get $8000 for my Civic?
Would you like any help to do market analysis in UAE Dubai, its a life market get affected by number of expats, trends and running costs of the car, if you do please let me know
Glad I sold my 987.2 S in March and got a 997.2 S. Your videos confirm that I am doing something right. Wonder if you can get data and share for Audi S6/7 please. Or older Rs7. A fan love it.
Wishful thinking....on those values.... 986.1 will be worth more than 986.2 in five years. 16k is hilarious. I paid £2150 for a nice 986.1 three months ago. I missed out on a 986 S for £1500 with AOS failure. These price estimations though are complete and utter bull$hit
These are not estimated prices but actual prices. They represent the market median which means that your price observation is not per definition aligned.
@@fourwheeltrader absolute rubbish. There are cars for sale which are advertised for a long long time that are way over priced and the senile owner is deluded after watching these type of hype videos of the cars actual and true value. These values you have found aren't of actual sold prices but of inflated advertised prices of fantasists
You're right imo. I ended up not buying one after testing a couple out last summer, because I couldnt justify spending more money than each of my other two cars cost me, both of which run circles around the original boxster. What I did like very much about the Boxster was its sonorous engine, its unique looks and driving feel. One could argue that those special attributes make it worth some money, along with the fact that they'll never build a Boxster like that again. BUT, they made a shit ton of them, so there's that🤷♂️. At the end of the day, its got a Porsche badge, and lately, it seems as though that in itself is enough for many to justify spending silly money. Not for me though.
*Which car would you like to see analysed next?*
991.2 turbo s
Thanks for another great video.
How about the MKV generation (2020+) Supra?
S8, E63s
Maybe revisit Cayman?

Congrats on your new car! Sounds like a well looked after example.
Hahaaaa 13k!!! You got ripped off by 10k!!! I got a 1999 986 all black, original for £2150
Even though Netherlands based, this is the most German thing I’ve seen in a while.
it would be interesting to see if there is a price and trend difference between early 987.1 S cars (3.2L) and later 987.1S cars (3.4L)

Yes M2!
My last car purchase 😭
Yes M2 would be nice! It seems to me like F21 M2 prices has went down since BMW announced the new rear wheel bias 2-series?
Good video. I feel better about my recent 987 purchase! Cheers!

What’s your take on the new GT4RS model? What will happen to it’s value after delivery, if you look into your crystal ball?
Low spec vs high spec?
I almost swapped my GTS (981) for a 718 GT4 on Friday. I decided against it, they want too much for the cayman and not enough for my existing car.
I’d like to know what you think about the prices between 981 PDK vs 6sp?

Very good episode. How about in-depth videos and then making the wider comparisons every 3,4 or 6 month or so?

Tks a lot!
Used 911 prices have gone down 10 in europe, and will tank end of January, to half of early 2021 prices.
Why are the GTS 4.0 almost non-existent in the market? The UK has about 5 I think.
Might be related to the stop sale which was in place for the GTS 4.0. But then again, this also goes for the GT4 and the Spyder.

I have the older 997.1....I'm hoping they will go up in value 🙏
Nissan GTR R35 values now pls
Whatever accent that is... I would try to get a different one.
Nah, it's a very common accent and not a problem for most native speakers. You can turn subtitles on if you have problems understanding it.
Confused..lol
Markut
Where does he get the data from?

Lol bought my flawless 1 owner 2014 S in August of 2020 for $38k
I'm really confused? There was never a 987.1 spyder they are only 2011 and 2012? Great video otherwise
It's the rs60 spyder.
Great job! Let's go Brandon!
Soon nobody will be able to afford a 987.1
All Boxsters are overpriced
well, you need‘nt to buy one.
Buy a us made car and good luck
Good!! ,and no boxsters are underpriced!! Don't want that! Thanks for nothing!!!

I guess you haven't heard about the problems Chevy is having either 5.7 and 6.2 engines.
