Glad to see Turtle WoW getting more attention since this very video Kargoz is reacting too got a copyright strike from Blizz today.
I do an independent news program for turtle wow radio (yes they have in game radio) if any of you are curious to see what the community is like.
Turtle wow enjoyer here. Dropping a server review for those curious.
Hardcore community: friendly and awesome. In-game support, and exclusive HC chat for everyone in the grind.
World chat: mixed bag. Quite a few racist assholes
Guilds: numerous. The server is fully progressed, but there are progression guilds that are making their way through BWL and AQ as we speak.
Leveling: default rates 1x with easy access to a full bar of rested exp. Quest zones populated but it's infrequent to have to compete for regular mobs, other than named quest mob targets sometimes.
PvP: I'm more of a PvE player so idk really. BGs pop often, there's an arena system. The server is not PvP by default, but while leveling (not just at lvl 1, whenever you feel like starting) you can toggle Warmode. It gives you a flat +30% exp bonus but flags you permanently. You can remove Warmode once, if you regret it. Most non-HC level in Warmode for the exp bonus, so if you're a world PvP enthusiast, you'll have targets.
PvE: the server has several guilds with Naxx on farm, but also quite a few in progression. The custom dungeons are nice but they're not that often run. You usually have to ask in world chat for a while to find people. The custom raids are run more often, Karazhan (not a clone of tbc Kara. Same building but different bosses and loot) is the most popular, the higher tier is Emerald Sanctum which has two bosses but Naxx-level loot.
Professions: There are a few custom recipes both while leveling and for endgame. They are either raid drops, require exalted reputation or other types of money/time sink.
Custom (Frankenstein) content content: it's very well made both encounter balance wise and the quests and stories that lead you there don't feel out of place.
Example: in Wetlands they added a new quest hub whose main questchain follows the same themes as the larger Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood story of the Stormwind nobility being corrupt, without repeating plot points from other areas. It feels cohesive.

And it has a lot of new quests and new leveling dungeons. Some little class changes to make meme specs viable.
Can HC characters summon banks and vendors to them, and all the other pay-for-convenience stuff? If so, kind of ruins the challenge a bit.

@@remyd8767 I've played for years and there was only a like 2-ishmonth period where 10-15% of the Server was Chinese.. but now they have their own Chinese Turtle server... I'm not sure I have ever experienced a period of turtle with less than 90% spoke english (except the Chinese era when only about 85% of the server spoke english).. and I have played atleast a whole calendar year in each major region (NA, EU, and currently I live in Japan and play during Asia/OCE hours)
@@remyd8767 been playing for about a year. There used to be a lot of Chinese players but they created a separate server for them so now it's mostly english

4:50 that is NOT SFK, it's a new custom dungeon lvl 42-50 they made called Gilneas City in Gilneas.
So basically they are porting wow source code to U5 with asset's, they said asset textures will be updated to HD to match U5 lighting and other modern things to not look out of phase, also because of port to U5, devs will be able to make new content much faster and easier, back end infrastructure also inproved with smoother gameplay.
It will also let the adjust the game easier since it will be an updated client.
I heard the narrator is a og wow dev.

I think the point of the change is in large part so that the team is more easily able to change and update the game themselves after hitting a limit on what they were able to do with the clunky vanilla backend.

They need to make darkness a part of the game, along with torches and player controlled lighting effects. Running into a pitch black cave with a torch and getting mob agro b4 u can even see the mobs would be fucking epic. Running pitch black dungeons with a group, 5 people with torches only, limmited lighting in the dungeons itlself... imagine u in wailing caverns and people running ahead of u and all u see is the person with a torch and limited light around said person and u just hear mobs chasing and growling in the dark, now knowing which way they coming from. That shit would be glorious.
@@Therix11487 I think that might be a part of the plan, Turtle-wow has a semi-boring new bonus profession called Survival which can craft stuff like torches. They have announced that they are going to rework the profession to make it more engaging in the future
Hey! PSA: Ascension WoW is also planning on launching a Classic+ server too! I don't have a timeline on it, but they announced it on their YT Community page and they also have a Discord for it up and running.
The worgen zone is the beggining of the new custom gilneas city dungeon, an around 45-48 dungeon
Almost everything Turtle added is optional. You can participate in whatever content you wish. If you don't want to give the new dungeons/zones or factions a go, you can still do just the vanilla content.
Turtle wow is a good server. They keep adding new content and is free to play.

I think it will force MS/Blizzard to take it down, it is their IP and they'll need to protect it, especially with mobile apps and it running on a different engine/client.
They've already made millions from their cash shop from turtle wow, since it has been running for years. The server is in russia so good luck taking it down.
Really not sure if they can actually take down Turtle WoW. What Blizzard did was going after their RUclips channel, that was quite a while ago, i could see this happen again. If Blizzard goes after their host provider, they can just switch to another one pretty much. But we will see ofc!
The EU/NA server is hosted in the UK with a backup in the balkans and they also have like 4 servers in south east asia for their chinese playerbase. Only part of that blizzard really can strike against is the UK server but then it will be up and running within a few hours on the backup.

If the lighting in ashenvale was the night time cycle, I'm down. But if that's how it always is I'm not so sure. The zones with the UD feel should be dreary, but not completely dark all the time. Would have been nice to see the day/night cycles if they are different in each zone.
Will try for sure, UE will make the game look like how we remember it looking like as a kid!

After playing TWoW I can't go back to vanilla or retail.
It reminds me of modern Minecraft shaders + a few graphical tweaks and it looks great. I will definitely try it out when in releases in god knows how many years. These things always get delayed
They've a fulltime paid dev team working on the UE port, which is a seperate team form their dev team working on content updates, so the 2025 release date is pretty realistic. Turtle has been pretty good the past few years with keeping their release date targets on their content updates.

@@TorncitiThe main guy running twow is Russian so good luck shutting it down, even if server is outaide Russia and they manage to do tru server provider, they can easily rent use other pserver and use backups
@@Krahamus I hope you are right because I am really looking forward to this experience and it would suck to loose months/years of progress again. Being in Russia does not mean anything. Multiple private servers were hosted in Russia and were shut down by blizzard, like:

Molten-WoW
Sunwell
etc..
The music... Please keep the original music and sounds which were perfect for this game and will make you feel that you are in the same world even though it may look different.

in the Dev Questions after the release, they mentioned that it will also have full controller support which is great news for steam deck since you cant use ConsolePort with turtle WoW
But you have a consol supporter addon like ConsolePort
I noticed that the trees are still the odd layered 2d style foliage, so yeah I do think are using old assets. I also never ever wanted to go ashenvale before now either
The modding capabilities are going to be insane.

Turtle WoW has been the best thing after Nost. Absolutely having a blast there. No way retail Classic gets like that anytime soon.
Apparently they aren't doing a fresh server, kind of a bummer.. still a great achievement though
That sucks
Turtle's anti-fresh because one of their core promises back in 2018 was to offer a refuge from the constant fresh migrations. They want it to be a server where you can quit and come back in 2-3 years and still have your progress matter instead of being forced to move onto the next Fresh realm to play with everyone.

The servers can just handle Max 12k players at the same time so if that update drops they are forced to open fresh servers.

The talk is cheap line isn't a line on TWow, I have played it awhile and this game does it right. From the HC to the Normal gameplay its more stable than blizzard has ever had it. (I've played since early BC on retail).

It's a private server so no monthly fees, they are doing so by donations maybe in game cash shop.
Its a private server so it is free and downloadable, but it has a cash shop with a lot of QOL items/cosmetics

Dude these graphic changes look terrible. From the footage they showed it seems its either pitch black and you cant see the workd or starched out lighting looking like its some AI slop. Very little of that original charm of the vanilla world
yeah I dont get the hype around this mashup of UE5 and 2004 graphics, shit looks terrible imo lol. The super old pixelated buildings with the weird style UE5 world doesnt mesh well AT all.
