    Another fantastic video, and I love that you don't go down the fanboy route for either platform, you just present the data as it came to you. I expected that the Intel option would be ahead by a few percent in certain tasks, but it's the price point that genuinely surprised me. I'd always thought AMD was the way to go if you didn't have the budget for the Intel equivalent, very surprised to see the 12900k can be had for less than the 5950x...

    • @HaStUrGhOsT
      @HaStUrGhOsT 2 года назад +9

      It is cheaper because nobody is really buying those a lot, Did you actually see the test?, he is using a gen5 motherboard for the Intel side, ddr5 and you have to go for a bigger PSU, he went overkill on it, and on the AMD side he went lower 850W is the bare minimum for the system he used, and the ASUS pro art 570s is a really bad motherboard, I get he needs to make money and promote them, like the gygabyte aero( go msi if you want 570s btw, and this is coming from a asus fanboy).
      since you are talking about budget, go ahead and pair that 12 gen CPU + motherboard + DDR5 ram (just those 64gb is a lot more than the 5950x). You have to see it as a whole, and the test is not really fair given what he is using for intel, if he uses a ddr4 motherboard and regular ddr4 3600 for the intel, a 240mm aio, and a 850W, guess that would be funny.
      Keep in mind that the 5950X came competing with the 10 series intel, and they had to go up 2 generations to come close. Can't wait for AMD's next reveal.

    Hello sir, comparison is good but in my opinion there is a slight possibility that Intel has advantage of 360mm AIO over NH D15 for 5950x. If you want to compare side by side then my suggestion is use exact same cooling solution, same case, same fan orientation. 😅

    • @theTechNotice
      @theTechNotice  2 года назад +5

      Believe the 5950x never passed 75c with that cooler. It pulls only 130w ish when full load. ;) NH-D15 is plenty for that. Have a look at the x570 proart build in the end when I'm stresstesting it ;)

    • @abaj006
      @abaj006 2 года назад +12

      @@theTechNotice Is it possible that the AMD is slower in PBO because of the cooler? Was it thermal throttling in PBO? I find it very strange that the AMD is slower in PBO in some benchmarks and faster at 130W (especially in multi threaded benchmarks). This to me suggests a high probability of thermal throttling during your benchmarking.

    • @BreakingDimes
      @BreakingDimes 2 года назад

      @Kautilya Pandey both systems are dual channel

    • @kautilyapandey8943
      @kautilyapandey8943 2 года назад +7

      @@BreakingDimes One of the first things you might encounter with Alder Lake is that CPU-Z will indicate that you have a four channel memory controller (Quad Channel). Until now, this has been the privilege of Threadrippers or Intel X99/X299 platforms and similar hardware. Such reporting is not incorrect, because every DDR5 module behaves as two independent channels (or logical channels) from the perspective of the memory controller. While in the case of DDR4 a single module behaves as a single 64bit channel, in the case of DDR5 a change has been conducted whereby a module has been split into two 32bit channels. With two modules you therefore have four logical channels with 32bit width each.
      From the point of view of the theoretical bandwidth there is no actual change, the benefit of two “pseudo channels” within a single module rests on their ability to support two independent accesses at the same time. So despite the theoretical bandwidth not being changed, it becomes possible to yield a higher practically achievable bandwidth and thereby a higher performance out of that same theoretical potential
      So yeah, if to truly compare only CPU's the video creator must have used an alder lake DDR4 board with 4 sticks of RAM and the same for AMD, same speed and timings.
      It's about reducing external variables, because here technically DDR4 and 5 are also on test.
      DDR5 is almost impossible to find right now in the market.

      When you learn overclocking and in general how things work together you can realize power draw doesn't mean better performance, there is always a "sweet spot" these are not spinning wheels, this is a complex system made of many subsystems and everything has to work at the same time and if something runs out of sync then can mess up the entire operation

    The DDR 4 comparison would be nice to see, but I am not sure it really makes much sense? The reason being if I shell out the money for an i9 12900k and pair it with a medium to high-end motherboard, I wouldn't get a DDR 4 motherboard. Especially if I am getting the i9 12900k for content creation. And for me the only reason I can justify getting an i9 12900K would be for content creation.

    • @paolo11x11
      @paolo11x11 2 года назад +1

      Yeah agreed, 12900k DDR4 only makes sense at the lower end of the mobo spectrum, although as soon as you get into more enthusiast boards they're already DDR5 only. It comes down to whether or not you want to/can wait for DDR5 prices to normalize before building a system. Right now DDR4/Intel makes sense if you were already looking at the 5950x - there is no upgrade path for it or DDR4/Intel, but the system may have use value for the coming months that overrides that. I'm interested to see a DDR4 Intel vs DDR4 AMD test, still.

    • @mj1s735

      @@paolo11x11 All good points, but I am referring to content creation level systems only. Initially both the DDR5 motherboards and RAM were both very high, but now I can get a DDR 5 motherboard for the same price as the AMD DDR 4 motherboard. So after seeing this review, I will go with the Intel 12900k even if I can only afford 2 instead of 4 RAM modules at first. I have already seen plenty of reviews of what the lower end Intel CPUs can do with DDR 4. But like I said before if I get an Intel 12900K I would be getting it for content creation. And content creation was the whole point of this review.

      If you wanted 'fair comparison' then we should match clock speeds, power draw, cache.... as you can see it will never be a fair comparison, yet why would you 'cripple' the newer chip by running older ram if it can support newer RAM?
      It's like buying a car with launch control, yet not using it for 0-60 time, why not use the technology if it can do that? 🤔
      At the same time a lot of people at the moment would like to save some money on RAM hence going with ddr4. But I guess that's another point. :)

      My cpu idles at 47 - 55 degrees celcius. Not ideal but I have heard the cpu runs hot and admittingly I have a hot case, the original Phanteks Enthoo tg.
      On Premiere Pro it 'idles' at 70-73 degrees and shoots up to 83 on exports.
      My pc specs are:
      5950x
      evga ftw3 rtx 3090
      G.Skill Trident Z Neo 64gb (4x16gb) 3600 Cl 14
      Evga supernova 850w psu
      Asus Proart creator x570 wi-fi motherboard
      OS drive is Samsung 960 EVO m.2 500gb pcie express 3
      Windows 11
      I checked PBO and it was on auto, which seems to be the same as disabled. But I disabled it anyways to test and no difference. I have also tried running my RAM without the xmp profile and on/off there seems to be no difference.
      My RAM is very pointlessly crazy specs at 3600 and 14 timings. It is also not on the QVL list for this motherboard. Unfortunately Asus released their qvl list after I got everything.
      I have been frustrated because after all the money I put into this system it has had unstable issues and I do not know how to single out a single piece of hardware.
      Premiere Pro runs very sluggish, scrolling the timeline is laggy, clicking play I always have to wait a couple of seconds for video preview to play, and Premiere constantly freezes up (without even a crash window) so I am constantly panic-saving during edits and using task manager to force quit.
      My pc in general feels very unstable. Sometimes on power on the monitor never gets signal, staying black screen so I have to force restart. Sometimes on shutdown the monitor turns black and the pc never turns off. Windows explorer and the taskbar is very glitchy as sometimes it freezes or if I go into Premiere Pro I cannot click on another folder or window and instead have to use alt-tab. I have reinstalled windows a bunch of times to see if it was software issues, but considering it is recurring it must be hardware.
      My old Windows 10 Intel system also had RAM that was not on the qvl list but as long as I ran it stock without xmp profile the system ran smoothly. With xmp on the system did run sluggish and crash. Thing is how do I know if ram is the issue for this current system. I do not know much about memory channeling or how to test if this is the issue with my ram kit.
      At first I thought of switching to an iMac so that I don't have to troubleshoot so much but now I am thinking I will do a 12900K build instead with a Fractal Torrent Case.
      Please let me know any tips or knowledge on how to test for which specific hardware(s) is causing issues. :(

    Not convinced by the methodology for this comparison. Am I right in saying you also used 4 sticks of RAM in the Intel config but only 2 in the AMD config? This is despite it being shown that 4 sticks of RAM can improve performance on Ryzen (by up to 10%), and with the Intel config using a later generation memory technology to make it even harder to make a reasonable comparison. How much do the 4 sticks of DDR5 cost compared to the 2 sticks of DDR4? I think you need to do some work on your testing processes but interesting video despite that.

    A bit misleading title, the video is focused towards creators but most of the benchmarks are lightly threaded or single threaded, there is only one true rendering benchmark and no AI/compression decompression benchmarks.
    Ofcourse intel has 10 percent higher IPC and slightly higher clocks but Ryzen can hold its own with 16 true hyperthreaded high performance cores.
    Also, please use the same AIO for both and at least 4000mhz cl 16 ram for Ryzen as it's quite dependant upon ram speed and timings along with thermal threshold availability for boosting, regardless of the peak temperature. Intel is on DDR5, we should be fair in other components used to reduce external variables as much as possible.

      One more thing which happens to be unnoticed and a mistake at creators part, the creator is running quad channel RAM for intel and dual channel for AMD. This should not be the case.

    • @theTechNotice
      @theTechNotice  2 года назад

      FYI it's not quad channel, it's dual channel on both systems. 12th gen doesn't support quad channel. So having 4 vs 2 sticks of the same capacity doesn't make a difference, maybe slight strain on the memory controller, but nothing to worry about. In my testing 4 vs 2 sticks run within the margin of error of difference.

    • @kautilyapandey8943
      @kautilyapandey8943 2 года назад

      @@theTechNotice One of the first things you might encounter with Alder Lake is that CPU-Z will indicate that you have a four channel memory controller (Quad Channel).
So despite the theoretical bandwidth not being changed, it becomes possible to yield a higher practically achievable bandwidth and thereby a higher performance out of that same theoretical potential.
      If we were only comparing CPU's please reduce other variables as much as you can, the same speed and timing DDR4 modules must be used for testing. We shouldn't be comparing DDR5 to 4 as surely 5 is better and faster, but also very hard to buy right now. And if alder lake supports DDR4 why not to reduce external variables, it's just about obtaining a Z690 DDR4 MB.

    • @kautilyapandey8943
      @kautilyapandey8943 2 года назад +2

      @@theTechNotice i9 could be faster, sure, Intel has made good strides, but when you use different components for cooling (air cooler for Ryzen and a 360mm 6 fans rad for i9) and next gen memory for i9, you are giving unfair advantage in a CPU comparison.
      I understand that alder lake supports these features so you should give them a try, however when someone is watching i9 vs r9 they are more interested in just the CPU's not the memory as ofcourse they know DDR5>DDR4.
      I would have preferred to see an IPC comparison and clock speed charts as well, which is important for CPU comparison videos.

    Ryzen gives worse thermal reading, voltage fluctuations and weird behavior from your PC. What do I mean by weird? Mouse lagging for no reason, only to never happen again. Weird keyboard behaviors, crashes and generally giving a worse performance.

      More fans to manage cooling (There's no doubt that wraith stealth's stock cooling is bullshit. Again, their testing is lacking). Windows reinstallation. Overclocking, underclocking. Changing RAM. Changing GPU. Updating BIOS. Nothing makes a difference.
      Now, if it was consistently showing an issue, it would've been easier to solve. But the issues occur, never to show up again. As if there's a ghost inside. I've had similar complaints from people in my company as well, but they couldn't replicate it.
      Try it yourself as well, if you have the tools. Thermals, wattage, everything is off the charts in AMD. I've personally used and seen people use an intel processor for over 10 years (seen people use it for over 20 years). Apart from being backdated, the processor worked fine. Never heard anyone claim the same for AMD.
      Just pasting on more cores for less price doesn't really amount to a better processor. Which is clearly apparent in this video too.
      AMD GPUs on the other hand, are hardy and robust. Again, I don't have a bias towards one or the other. Used both NVidia and AMD. While NVidia gives better performance, AMD has better stability, thermals and bang for the buck when it comes to GPUs (Used 5 different NVidia cards and 5 AMD cards personally, since 1992).

      @@mr.diontoahmed1134 Wait which AMD chips are we talking here? In the IT world your dealing with servers most likely right? so threadrippers and the epic cpu? In that case your probably right they get hot but they are also work horses. If this is so Intel is the exact same.
      I'm talking about the ryzen chips you use for home use. PC builds that you use them for, like Professional jobs you can usually do at home. Graphic design and other graphic intensive work from home jobs.
      I'm very sure Intel would work just as well both run hot under such loads.
      No one uses old AMD chips from 10 years ago in servers. Don't know if they even existed and if they did they probably sucked compared to Intel. Only AMD server chips I would use would be the threadrippers and epic processors that came out 3 years ago or earlier. They have been giving intel a run for their money processing wise. Intel is so entrenched in that market and its the safe bet, being most companies will stick with Intel regardless.
      Edit: Sorry my grammar sucks been up for 24 hours because I've been sick so not thinking straight.
