    AMD has been going strong with their high-end CPUs for years, but how well do the last 2 generations keep up with AMD's latest 7950X CPU?
    In this video I'm comparing 3 generations of Ryzen 9 processors -- 7950X vs 5950X vs 3950X. Is it worth upgrading?

    Awesome video - I love my 5950x, it has a good balance of cpu performance and power consumption.

    Something is off with your 5950X clock and scores. Should be higher in cinebench multi and clocks.

    What was the purpose of supplying the AM5 system with the 32GB of 6000 while the AM4 systems with 16GB of 3200 cl14?
    Why not 3600+ CL14 with the older system? That seems suspect, especially since fabric speed depends on memory speed.
    The fact that the Zen 2 and 3 don't have dual rank memory on top of the fact that you're cutting them off from 200 mhz fabric frequency (400 mhz memory frequency)
    That could account for 10% or more of your result.

      @@TechTusiast The point is he gave the newer cpu its optimal ram kit and gave the older cpu multiple disadvantages outside of the generational gap

      @@TechTusiast Dual rank and 4 sticks are not mutually exclusive. I've been using B-Die I bought in 2017 in a 2x16 configuration and its dual rank. Of course you will care about performance. For most people if they already have a good zen 3 system the upgrade to zen 4 isn't huge. So people need to be shown accurate info to not be suckered into an upgrade.
      Dual Rank CL14 3600+ on a dual ccd is much more important because you not only get the base performance uplift but the least amount of cross ccd latency.

    No se tendria que acortar la brecha a mas resolucion? Veo que el 7950x le saca mas fps que a 1080p sobre el 5950x, esto es muy raro

    I'd like to see this review with all the cpus using tuned PBO settings, i can get 30k in Cinebench with my 5950x with PBO enabled.

    • @brugj03

      That`s right the PBO on the 5950X makes a far bigger difference then on the 7950x.

    One small appreciation that you left out those weird transitional sounds, without them and simply just saying them out loud E.G. "specifications" sounds much better now :).
    Though one suggestion if you can, please use dual ranked ram configuration for ddr4 platforms as you can get ~8% of performance improvement (depending on game selection).
    And the last thing that i noticed are your AC valhalla numbers, they seem a bit too low and not really logical as 5950x and 3950x shows pretty much identical fps here, which shouldnt happen🧐

      @Nicolas11x12English  Год назад

      It would be pretty much on par with the 7950X in terms of gaming performance, but would perform significantly worse in productivity workloads due to its lower number of cores. :)

    We know that AMD ps Zen4 is an overvalued and pushed Zen3 core ……. Its a shame they didn’t tweak the voltages a little bit out of the box to improve its efficiency better making it more desirable at stock settings for buyers giving it slightly better as well. AMD has been smashing the performance / efficiency on laptops the last couple generations compared to Intel 👍🥰💪. But for desktop usage Intel still has the edge in performance 😱👍💪. Overall thou both cpu manufacturers have their strengths and weaknesses and competition is great for the consumer at the end of the day 😇🥰🎉

    • @Nicolas11x12English
      @Nicolas11x12English  Год назад

      Indeed, I wish they would've tweaked their X-variants better before releasing them, but it's obvious they were aiming for the performance crown, as was Intel with Raptor Lake.
      You're totally right, both AMD and Intel have their pros and cons.
      Thanks for watching and commenting, Michael! :)

      Intel efficiency on desktop is even worse. 13900K comsumes 50% more power to be 5% more powerful than 7950X

  • @badass6300
    @badass6300 Год назад +2

    The Ryzen 7000 series should just be skipped imo(same with Intel's 13th gen). The platforms are too expensive, DDR5 RAM is too expensive and the CPUs themselves are too expensive compared to the current prices of last gen products for about 20-25% higher performance and insanely higher power consumption. The non-X CPUs get much lower performance in productivity to the point that the Ryzen 7 7700 is matched by the Ryzen 5 7600X.

      The only use case where i could advocate for 7950x are those multicore production workloads where it really shines, for other things like light programs or games is super meh. For that i would go for 13900k as it can support significantly higher ddr5 speeds (7200mt/s easy) and is quite a bit faster in games.

    • @Nicolas11x12English
      @Nicolas11x12English  Год назад +1

      Yes, it's an overall very expensive platform for now. Although prices have gone down now slightly.

    I see that indeed your zen 4 combo is effected as well as mine. Single core might be 5.75ghz however during more than one core loads its not more than 5.5ghz. C state limiter right there! AMD kinda scammed us on presentation they showed 5.85ghz during gaming, infact even heavely undervolted 7950x can barely give 5.7ghz on half the cores and only at release bios, because of no c state limiter. So 7950x is kinda gimped

    Yeah I wont go with their x950x products anymore, as a gamer. It is simultaneously overkill and underpowered at the same time. Therefore, in gaming? They do not age well. Since gaming is often about the single core/ single thread performance? Once your 3950x fails to keep up and begins to struggle at single core performance? The entire CPU is out, yet it will remain plenty where SMT/ threading performance is concerned, whether that's day to day tasks, video encoding/ zipping/ unzipping etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is, 16-core, right now? Is where the 6 and 8 core CPUs were between 2010-2015, where 2015 was when we began to see a rising support for quad cores in gaming and kind of like how 6-core is still the sweet spot, with many gaming tests showing the 5600x beating out the 5800x and even the 5800x3D in some tests, albeit not by much. So it's safe to say that we're now entering the realm of true 8-core gaming, which means taking a look back at the track record of increased core support? Means that within about 4-5 years we should see games starting to scale well to 10-12 core processors and 16-core should be viable in a full decade. Again...speaking strictly from a gaming standpoint. Don't get me wrong, the 3950X is a beast, still...in scenarios where 16 cores and 32 threads can be used, but when CPU0 and CPU1 are taking the brunt of the load? In gaming? You start to feel the need for better ICP and/ or higher frequency and with the 3950x unable to reach that 5GHZ+ margin, it starts to hurt your frames and so the only logical upgrade path is a 5600x or 5800x3D (if you want a bit more future proofing). It doesn't sound right, as far as upgrade paths are concerned, as that is technically be a downgrade (on paper)...but that's just the reality of gaming. Even a Ryzen 1950X and 2950X Threadripper can struggle in games this same way because at the end of the day? A 4GHZ boost frequency vs nearly 6GHZ these days is an insane separation where the single core is concerned. Especially when most of these 6GHZ/ nearly 6GHZ CPUs also tend to improve IPCs.
