My mom who was a professional stylist for over 20 years says you're the only one out of everyone I've showed her here on RUclips that talks about hair who actually speaks common sense and knows what they're talking about. Everyone else either constantly pushes a product that doesn't even work or confuses you with 200 different ways to style your hair and basically contradicts the last video they made about it.

One thing based off of my experience in my country; do not go to a hair saloon based on your _gender._ Definitely chose one based on the cut you want and the specialization of the barber/stylist just like theSalonGuy has said. Even if it means going into a place you’ve never been in before or even if you think you somehow “shouldn’t” be there.
I’ve got my buzzcut very bad in a women’s hair saloon (a very prestigious and expensive one that was too) because they tried to shape it with scissors. And unfortunately the guy who worked on it had absolutely no experience with short hair, let alone a buzz. The second I walked into a old ass barber’s shop filled with bunch of middle aged dudes, I got the best most fresh buzz and the cleanest neck shave.
Same thing happened with my bf. He has very very fine long hair. The men’s hair saloons almost always did a horrible job with his hair because they had zero experience with the style he prefers and a hair like his. But most women’s hair saloons didn’t want to give him a cut because they were afraid of their clients being disturbed by a grown man’s presence. (Such a bigoted way of thinking and acting on both the saloon’s and the clients’ end, I know…And unisex hair saloons are very rare in where we live) But once we found a saloon that were fine with giving him a cut, my bf was so happy with how his hair turned out. He told me he never got layers this beautiful before.
So like, it should never be about your gender, race or age. It should always be about the the style you want and the type of hair you have.

I've been growing my hair out for about 18 months now. Last time I went to get a trim, I told the lady I had been going to for about 9 months that I wanted the side and back trimmed (side burns and back would curl up and was difficult to keep down). She asked how I liked the length, and I said that the length was good and I wanted to keep it going. She asked if I wanted the hair off of my ears, and I said that I wanted the side hair to be off my ears. She said she was going to scissor trim it back.
She took off at least two inches, which is exactly what I did not want to happen. I have no clue where the communication screwed up, but I'm not going to her any longer. Last thing she said was, "See you next year" (this was in the last two weeks of 2022), and I'm thinking, "Nope. I'm going to somebody else"

The shape may be there, all you probably need is to grab proper hair care products to manipulate your vision. But some clients simply demand this and that and I don’t like to use products in my hair bc this and that.., hair reality is, nowadays you must use some sort of styling pdct bc us a necessity not a choice! 😢

Yea I have rarely gotten bad haircuts (i'm a client). But the one time i got a bad haircut it was mainly because i went in not knowing what i want and just told my stylist "let's do a bob"... i have wavy hair on the border of curly . . . The stylist's insta mainly showed textured mullets on straight hair in retrospect... yea... that was on me though. I was caught slipping 🤦🏻‍♀️
