i used to go to a barber but as i grew my hair out and consistently had longer hair i kept getting bad haircuts, that's when i found your videos and started cutting my own hair 🙏
I've been getting perms and blending that into a shorter taper on the sides. I started seeing legit stylists about a year ago and while it's more money I usually get exactly what I want as compared to barbers or discount places like great clips
I've cut my own hair for many years because of bad experiences with hair stylists. My hair is very thin and fine. Always had hair like this but worse as got older. Nobody seems to know how to cut my hair and I can't afford to go to someplace fancy. It sometimes takes me several attempts to get my hair right. I now do some of the things you do in your videos for layering. Over the years I avoided doing layers but now that my hair is very short, layers make it look better. Thanks for your videos. I do better with your videos than many others I've viewed. I tried many things but your simple ideas work for me. I can't do all the things in your videos on myself but the thing with doing layers works. And to cut bangs works for me, too.
Hope your eye gets better, I'm studying to be a hairdresser, I'm going into my second year, I live in Australia and love watching your videos, you are more explanatory than my teachers, thank you 😊
I’ve cut my own hair for 15 plus years with clippers. Now I’m almost 15 months in to letting my hair grow out. I’m probably going to go 18-24 months before getting it cut. When I get it cut I don’t want anything drastic coming off just layers put in. Hairstylist is the easy choice for me. Which hairstylist is the question though. Anyone know of a good hairstylist in Cincinnati area that can cut mens hair?
I cut my own hair to save money mainly. Your tips help a lot. I think I do ok but I don't think I'll ever do as good as a professional. The back of the head is next to impossible lol
My brothers cut their own hair. One all of the time, the other once in awhile ( I think to get a professional cut now and then, depending) They both recommend I do it too. For years I went to a salon but just had an old fashioned barber cut lately and think I’m going that route for awhile. When I started with stylists the prices were a bit more than a barber but my recent barber cut was about the same. Wouldn’t mind doing it myself. Even purchased a Wahl set about a year ago but can’t work up the nerve to try it lol Maybe a Flowbee is indicated 😉
I do...everything! At home my partner will do side maintenance with clippers- he became really good at buzzing my weird cowlick spots during the pandemic, and hair stylists usually miss those. I go to a barber for the "experience" - a hot towel, precision, cleaning me up and making my buzzed hair feel great. I will go to a hair stylist for the top, though nowadays that's a unisex salon because I only get it cut maybe once every six months.
Most of my life I’ve been going to a barber, however, not that I’m a little older, I thought I’d experiment with letting my hair grow out, so now, I’m going to go to a salon. I’d like to get a hairstyle like Fabian Frankel. If you have time, it would be great to see you do a tutorial on his hairstyle. Hope you feel better soon! I’m on a similar boat as you, I hope to be better in about a weeks time too.
My comment is where should I go to more training on men’s haircut’s? You hit the nail on the head and the focus on beauty school is on women’s hair. I was constantly pulled from the barber area to go to women’s hair so now I have very little experience in. I’d appreciate any suggestions. Ty
I like to go to a hybrid stylist who also specialises in colouring and styling although i just like to get a bit of layering and an occasional change in style, i dont pay a heck of a lot for my cuts because I am in high school. hope your eye is alright
I like to seek out hybrid barbershops that tailor to more gender neutral clients cause that's where I feel most at ease. I've personally always felt kind of uncomfortable at hair salons and yet most barbershops are very old school masculine so it's hard to really find my place. The best idea always though, is look for good reviews on a hair professional whichever way you go, not just on the location or whether it's barbershop vs hair salon. But to my knowledge for a female looking for longer hair (or a man looking for medium length hair) then you go to a hair salon, and for a male looking to get short or very short hair (such as fades esp skin fades, beard trims/shape-ups etc.) then definitely go to a barbershop. I really look forward to there being more hybrid barbershops and hair salons in general and have them be more welcoming.
I go to barber shop because my barber does the best fades in the Chicago area… but it’s really pricey. I’ve been wanting to learn to cut my own hair for years, I think this video is a signal to finally start
It's mostly between cutting it myself and going to barber [Which sometimes end up in disaster]. I have longer hair but stylists are too expensive and I can't afford them.
It's hard to determine which barber/hair stylist to go to based on a web search. I just moved to a new city, and I have to rely on Google Maps reviews and take a risk. Anyone have any tips on choosing a new stylist?
12:45 Exactly I live in a kinda rural area mostly white. Im asian so barbers kept buzzing my heard then leaving my bangs gimme my 30 bucks. Then one time I went to a barbershop and the owner/manager didnt take my walk-in so called another barber to come in and cut my hair. He ended up cutting off my widows peak and giving me a line up. So now I try to find hair stylist usually women who know how to use a clippers and fades and tapers.

Many of these barbers on RUclips offer mens cutting classes but watch my videos and practice on mannequins.
