Mike, great pace. You took me back there. I'm 71 now but had the pleasure of beating Damon Hill on one of these bikes around Brands. I was using a manx dommi. 600cc Thank you so much, you made an old man very happy.
Down shifted early & over tacked the rpms 5+ times couldn’t be to good on the motor. As easy as you could drive around them maybe didn’t even need to push it that hard. That bike was in a different class than the rest. Been nice to have some kind of temp guage if possible. Whoever was riding it made the others look like beginners. I bet there was some complaints going on about that. They all out front & this guy runs them all down then coming into the corners he’s already into the lean while they are still thinking. Even the ones all deep into their lean thinking they was getting it on then zip wtf where did he come from & go. They all got their plans & hopes stomped on if that was a class all the same. I bet they sold their shit & went to by that bike before the race was even over. Lol.
Mike, you are an amazing rider. You were passing people in wholesale fashion and making it look easy. When she locked up, you just grabbed the clutch , and peeled off with hardly a wiggle. Nice job, thanks for the ride.
Love to see and hear this. I miss those days. Former Yamaha roadracer in the 70's, TA 125 and TZ 250. Nothing like the two strokes. No over-revving there, that is just what those engines did. If you never rode one of these with these types of power bands, you simply would not understand....Please post more like this!!
Take no prisoners! Straight wind it out till it pops! Love that style riding! Very impressive! Probably running a tad to hot a plug or light on the mix either way rockstar you are!
Amazing save from engine seizure. Always rode 2 strokes with hand out on covering the clutch lever it case rear wheel locks from engine locking up. With him on every turn there. Brilliant.
That was just so good I feel much better after watching your video, you are an amazing rider and have reminded me how thrilling motorcycle racing was in the 70s. Racing has been destroyed by the evil regulations and the strong desire just to make the manufacturers money. Thank you very much!
excellent video.......they are by far the best to ride!!.......I have two TZ250's, two TZ350's, an RD350 1975, an RZ500 1985 serial# 333, and an H2 1971..........
You are realy a very great pilot! Last lap very very fast! Thanks a lot for your video because I remebered me when I raced with my fabulous TZ 350 many many years ago in my last race for Italian Championship to Imola against the monstrous Suzuki RG 500. I wish you all the best. Thank you again great pilot.
AAAAAHHHH! I remember MCN saying back in the 80's "Grown men will weep when the YPVS goes out of production." I'm still weeping, having never owned one.
Not many have the guts to overtake on the 'outside' ; you have it in spades, making the others look like a bunch of 'Sunday strollers". The Bike is superb and responds erfectly to your command. Well done. Thank you.
Ah the TZ350. A mate had one when he started racing (Only Clubman level) Another mate "spannered for him. After some testing at a disused airfield, the second mate said "It accelerated like an RD400 Then you hit the power band" The racing mate raced for a few years and entered the Manx Grand Prix. First time there, he finished 9th. I think he hung up his leathers straight after (Well he was at the age when it was his last chance to go to the Island, (Next year he would have been too old to be a rookie) Thanks for the memories Spenno Cheers Tony
wow- brought back memories of racing my tz250-350 and the big TZ 750-- Love that sound !!! , pure music to my ears..thanks!! now I'm wondering what it will cost to get mine back on the track-- out here it's Sears Point , Laguna Seca Thunder Hill and Willows ,, Sears is 3 miles down the road from where I sit ..... too bad you can't smell the Castor oil.....
A great ride until the seizure! That temperature gauge would have made a better ashtray, it that the reason the bike "blew up?" I had a gearbox seizure near there in 1982 on one of Jeff Crookbains Racing School Honda 400 Dreams, flat out, that would almost certainly have thrown me off, if the chain had not scapped. Jeff was not impressed, & would not let me have a replacment.
I know what you mean as stuff happens when you're always riding other people's bikes Ash, it's different when it's your own bike and you can prepare them like you want. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.
First of all you're an excellent driver. You race brilliantly. And its nice to see 2 strokes kicking ass. And yours is completely overpowered. Those 4 strokes have no chance. What a great bike. Congrats
Nice to see ur being a bit careful there in the wet, Spikey... And all 3 thousand revs to play with. Gotta love 2-smokes. In MotoGP today the engines give more than 10 throusand very usuable revs to much around with. I've managed to stay up-right with a couple of seizures meself. Angels at my side (and two fingers on the clutch at all times)...
Nice ride Mike, great lines & shame it nipped up. Was it a cold seize as I saw the Temp was low on the last two laps? I raced a TZ 350 & 250 for 5yrs, was lucky only had one cold nip up. Glad the rebuild went ok and you got the win, well done.
Fantastic video Mike! The warm up area hold reminded me of my days racing Yamaha Windle TZ700's.. It actually made me feel nervous just like in the old days. I see you've lost none of your talent for riding bloody quickly as well. Best regards from the Harz Mountains Germany (originally from Stevenage)
Yep, Strokers are great. Great rider. Need oil pumped into crank and also injection at carbs or oil mix for extra lube to pistons. Good cooling and correct clearances with genuine components only. The pistons deliver a power stroke twice an many times as a 4 stroke for a given RPM and they need efficient cooling and lubrication to stop them "picking up". Two fingers on the clutch at all times. Be quick with the clutch at the 1st sign of a seizure, if you get the chance, otherwise you may hit granite. Last stroker I had was a RG 500 with all the mods. Super bike that. Too old now though to ride one. Stay young. MIKE. PS Great video, Thanks.
Haha amazing, just love the vibrations making the video crazy fuzzy at some points, cannot even imagine how it must feel in the palm of the hands of that rider lol. Manly, grrr
Thanks for that, i owned a TZ350 back in the 70s, just a great bike to race, took me to B grade in Australia, tracks including Bathurst! mostly from the seat of your pants... and if you havent seized one you havent riden one. Thanks again
This is a great vid, enjoyed where you get to ride but the trip to the dummy grid was a bit of an epic endurance. Not sure I could cope, lol.Shame about the ending. That deadly silence where before there was two stroke music sure sucks.Loved your lines passing those guys. Buffalo girls go round the out side yehar!!
Not really over revving, maybe a couple of times when down shifting, a 350 F,G or H spec tz is 11,000 rpm redline, all the same as development stopped on the 350s for the last 3 years they were produced. maybe a little lean causing the seizure.
Awesome vid Mike, dont think I ever raced when you did but I used to wobble round on these real bikes in the 90's with forgotten era, do I miss it? to bloody right I do. Cheers Mike and good luck this season. Jon.
At 9.54 strange sound?. then at 14.05 when you dropped down the revs went to just over 13000 rpm I think that's where the signs were something was not right, maybe she nipped slightly at these points? before the final nip up at corner 5
First off, awesome riding! I couldn't ride that well if the field was blindfolded. . .There is a metallic hollow sound(lean scream) between 8-9k, hard over in the turns, you can barely hear it. Most likely lean on the 1/2-3/4 throttle transition. . .this motor was nearly perfectly dialed in as it pulls HARD from 6k to 11.5k rpm and that is damned impressive tuning! JUUUUST a tad bit lean somewhere in the throttle range, coupled with lots of twisty turns and leaning over hard most likely pushed her just over the edge. Nonetheless, awesome riding, great sound, and great upload mate!
Got it all, Mike. Beautiful ride......and so on song, too. I closed my eyes, for a few minutes, and just listened to the sound. Takes me back......(We probably both had more hair, back in '88...) And, yeah.....you definitely overreved it. I also heard some valve bounce, too.... (Just kidding, before you think i'm a total moron.) I remember shutting off, at the end of the front straight at Philip Island, on m y '83 TZ, and the same thing happened. Hope it wasn't too much of a melt down. Thanks.
As Alex Ferguson said "squeaky bum time!!" got that clutch in a bit sharpish there Mike!! not the place to seize as your flat out at Westfield. Another great vid. Thanks.
Mike, great pace. You took me back there. I'm 71 now but had the pleasure of beating Damon Hill on one of these bikes around Brands. I was using a manx dommi. 600cc
Thank you so much, you made an old man very happy.
❤❤
Damon Hill must have been totally shite if you beat him on a Dommi....🤣🤣🤣
Down shifted early & over tacked the rpms 5+ times couldn’t be to good on the motor. As easy as you could drive around them maybe didn’t even need to push it that hard. That bike was in a different class than the rest. Been nice to have some kind of temp guage if possible. Whoever was riding it made the others look like beginners. In 2024 this is a lovely comment to read! Hope you are enjoying watching us guys going around these days👍🏻
Mike, you are an amazing rider. You were passing people in wholesale fashion and making it look easy. When she locked up, you just grabbed the clutch , and peeled off with hardly a wiggle. Nice job, thanks for the ride.
But that is what yammys a famouse for locking up.
@@scottgibson7534 Ridden a lot of brands.....they'll all lock up if things are a bit off on any pafticular day.
Love to see and hear this. I miss those days. Former Yamaha roadracer in the 70's, TA 125 and TZ 250. Nothing like the two strokes. No over-revving there, that is just what those engines did. Did you race in the USA
Rebuilt the engine and won the race!
Take no prisoners! Straight wind it out till it pops! Love that style riding! Very impressive! Probably running a tad to hot a plug or light on the mix either way rockstar you are!
Swinging Sweetly at Ten Thousand RPM can this boy ride, pleasure to see that instantaneous clutch grab at the right moment.
That was a thing of beauty to watch! You and that bike are one, what a treat! Some people are born to do this and you sir, are one of them!
Nice dicing and ‘spiking’ the field until your engine blew, Mike. Thanks for the show..!
great bike & awesome riding!
I was doing like this 30 years ago in Japan
I love 2 stroke engine
Amazing save from engine seizure. Always rode 2 strokes with hand out on covering the clutch lever it case rear wheel locks from engine locking up. With him on every turn there. Brilliant.
That was seriously a good watch, sounded sweet, super smooth ride. Glad you finally won the race.....ring ding ding! Gee.
Exquisite riding - LOVE the sound of that ol stroker!
That was just so good I feel much better after watching your video, you are an amazing rider and have reminded me how thrilling motorcycle racing was in the 70s. Racing has been destroyed by the evil regulations and the strong desire just to make the manufacturers money. Thank you very much!
Best music on youtube!
excellent video.......they are by far the best to ride!!.......I have two TZ250's, two TZ350's, an RD350 1975, an RZ500 1985 serial# 333, and an H2 1971..........
You reminded me about 50 years ago. I was ride on an air-cooled Yamaha 250. Thank you for the smell of sweet exhaust. Hope you keeps on tracking
Just love it, had one bymyself 1980 - 1981 and wish that I still had it to race historical racing today.
You are realy a very great pilot! Last lap very very fast! Thanks a lot for your video because I remebered me when I raced with my fabulous TZ 350 many many years ago in my last race for Italian Championship to Imola against the monstrous Suzuki RG 500. AAAAAHHHH! I remember MCN saying back in the 80's "Grown men will weep when the YPVS goes out of production." I'm still weeping, having never owned one.
Got my LC engine rebuilt and back in the frame . Just need a flywheel and footpeg/exhaust hangers . can't wait !!
They still make the banshee
Beautiful ride dude I miss those days
Great ride Spike, you are a man after my own heart. Gutted it seized
Awesome corner speed, Mike. This is my new favorite two-smoke onboard video.
Not many have the guts to overtake on the 'outside' ; you have it in spades, making the others look like a bunch of 'Sunday strollers". The Bike is superb and responds erfectly to your command. Well done. Thank you.
Even though I knew it was coming I still jumped ! Well done Mr Smooth! (. YDSE 250) many many yrs ago !
Mike, fantástico, excelente.
O som do motor da máquina TZ 350 é espetacular, não tem igual. Parabéns.
Hi no slipper clutch - just use it when you need it - no or little engine braking on a two stroke, so no need for a slipper clutch really.
Man does it sound amazing, especially before they blow up or seize!
I had a RD 350 when I was in my teens!
Ah the TZ350.
A mate had one when he started racing (Only Clubman level)
Another mate "spannered for him.
After some testing at a disused airfield, the second mate said
"It accelerated like an RD400
Then you hit the power band"
The racing mate raced for a few years and entered the Manx Grand Prix.
First time there, he finished 9th.
I think he hung up his leathers straight after (Well he was at the age when it was his last chance to go to the Island, (Next year he would have been too old to be a rookie)
Thanks for the memories Spenno
Cheers
Tony
2 takt only 50 cc preferd
Nicely caught at the end there ...of all the places the bike decides to nip up!!
Bloody hell you're quick.
You passed them on braking, on exiting, round the outside, the inside,
very impressive.
wow- brought back memories of racing my tz250-350 and the big TZ 750-- Love that sound !!! , pure music to my ears..thanks!! now I'm wondering what it will cost to get mine back on the track-- out here it's Sears Point , Laguna Seca Thunder Hill and Willows ,, Sears is 3 miles down the road from where I sit ..... too bad you can't smell the Castor oil.....
Best vids on RUclips Mike as usual, really sure shame she didn't survive till the end. Enjoyed watching it!
best vid i have seen in a long time and skill hope you got her sorted in no time
That was beautiful, sir - hats off to you.
great vid, brought back memories of my 1970's days, now all I can do is reminisce lol. Thanks

Hats off to you Sir, you can ride!

Awesome rider ! Iconic 2 stroke racebike 😊👍
Man, a beautiful ride on a Historic track! What more can you ask for!!!
Amazing 2 strokes!!!!

Nice Riding, Mike ! WooHoo, I loved these bikes when I was a kid, and fine job controlling that seize-up.
you have made an ageing ex racer happy.thanks for the post. happy happy and expensive days!
Enjoyed the video, seemed like a good match of capable bike and rider
Loved the full circuit. Hated the Indy. Your speed control at Clearways is exquisite.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Mike. www.patreon.com/no1bloke
upsss, the engine did not resist .. !! But the pilot has been very quick to react. Good video and laps .. !!

The face at the end says it all. Never mind. Strip it down and she'll be as good as new in no time!
Wow, what a ride. Def a Pro racer. Best that poor bike into submission. What a save though, I thought he'd crash. Kudos dude.
Haha amazing, just love the vibrations making the video crazy fuzzy at some points, cannot even imagine how it must feel in the palm of the hands of that rider lol.
Manly, grrr
It was weird, the bike picked the most awesome, scary foooking corner things could go wrong at...
Nice save, Mike
Thanks for that, i owned a TZ350 back in the 70s, just a great bike to race, took me to B grade in Australia, tracks including Bathurst! mostly from the seat of your pants... and if you havent seized one you havent riden one. Thanks again
Still, seeing the tach into no man's land was awesome and the way that things handles is pretty sweet. I have a real soft spot for two-strokes!
like a knife through butter. brings back memories of the 70s and castrol R mmmmm
done them all, what riding!love the sound!
you just made an old man very happy... thanks
Those TZs sure could hustle...... golly, the last time was at Brands would have been about 1956......
PIty about the seize...
Nice ride and save. Was wondering if u were going to get a clean lap. Glad you did before the lockup.
good driver and sweet bike!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Great video, many thanks! How I miss my old 350 ypvs elsie!
Mike, fantástico, excelente.
O som do motor da máquina TZ 350 é espetacular, não tem igual. Parabéns. Edson Sionek.
Nice bike, super fast, the soungs so amazing
Fair old hike to the track entrance through peak hour traffic! Bloody hell! Nice vid!
Brings me back to my rd350 days.485 stan stephens motor:)
Crazy sweet bike! Is there a slipper clutch in there? If not, how much are you using the clutch?
Really exciting to watch.
How do you think I felt? It was a surprise for me too!
This is a great vid, enjoyed where you get to ride but the trip to the dummy grid was a bit of an epic endurance. Not sure I could cope, lol.Shame about the ending. That deadly silence where before there was two stroke music sure sucks.Loved your lines passing those guys. Two stroke FOREVER!!!! This guy rules!
Thanks Lauro, I love the sound, feel and smell of the two stroke machines.
Not really over revving, maybe a couple of times when down shifting, a 350 F,G or H spec tz is 11,000 rpm redline, all the same as development stopped on the 350s for the last 3 years they were produced. maybe a little lean causing the seizure.
Well saved that was close when the engine locked up, I hope you have her up and running again.
Ridden the way it should be, and what a crisp engine....Bravo
That's why it seazed ,, lean and crisp
you ride very well.. i like your line.
Xcellent :) dommage pour la casse méca :( serrage moteur ? le plages d utilisation d un TZ et d un RDLC sont très différentes lol ?
Thank you for sharing - I needed this!
what an excellent ride thank you
He just passes everybody...great bike great rider!!✌👊
many things can cause a seizure in a two stroke...my favorite is the carb[s] loosening slightly and the resulting air leak leans the mixture out ...
Very nicely done sir.
I can smell the 2 stroke mix from here! Good old memories of nothing, nothing, nothing. ...jesussssssssss!!!
man those turns looked like a plane banking wildly to me!
Awesome vid Mike, dont think I ever raced when you did but I used to wobble round on these real bikes in the 90's with forgotten era, do I miss it? to bloody right I do.
Cheers Mike and good luck this season.

Great video & top riding - you were passing everyone.
Pity about that seizure.
Good save.
O cara pilota muitoooooo 👏👏👏👏
Great job staying on, clutch covered! Really nice riding
Very nice ride Mike, well saved at the end, most people would of been off.
Good save fella
lovely sound
As Alex Ferguson said "squeaky bum time!!" got that clutch in a bit sharpish there Mike!! not the place to seize as your flat out at Westfield.
Another great vid. Thanks.
