- Mid to Late Summer is prime time for Sheepshead action here in the Carolinas. Rain days make for fun fishing because they provide cooler temps and less boat traffic. Sea Urchins and Mud Crabs are excellent bait to target these tasty fish. To me, Sea Urchins are by far the best bait for this time of year. Let me know what you think about that! Sheepshead freeze well so don't be bashful about catching your 10 fish limit (North Carolina) to enjoy later. Get out there and be somebody!

Fresh bait matters. Catch Urchins on Bridge Pilings and Mud Crabs under "stuff", below the high tide line (Wear Gloves, oyster cuts are nasty). The purple crabs with spots and striped legs are stone crabs and are illegal to possess.

Gotta love the crowd that drive 15 mph with the bow sticking straight up, thinking they were "nice" to you by slowing down. Mighty fine fishing.
That's right, they back down at the last second and throw a tidal wave at you thinking they are helping.
I have learned so much! I'm out under that bridge Friday!
I watch several fishing channels. You catch more and bigger sheepshead than any of them.
Great Video Captain 🐟 🐟🐟
Awesome videos. Thanks for all the info you put in the description.
Master Class!
WOW. WHAT A GREAT DAY OF FISHING. I DON'T FIND ANY SEA URCHINS HERE AT HOLDEN BEACH, I DON'T QUITE UNDERSTAND HOW THEY GET THAT BIG OLE URCHIN IN THEIR MOUTH TO GET HOOKED. LOVE TO WATCH YOU SLAY THEM OH. GREAT JOB, GREAT DAY ON THE WATER.
That's a day to remember for sure ! Your buddy hates he missed this trip . 😢😢
We were out that day and saw you fishing. I started to stop and say hello, but didn’t want to interrupt you!
Yo Brian appreciate the videos, I'm local too and you've helped me put dinner on the table for the family many times. Mud crabs and circle hooks 🤙 pompano rigs work well too try it sometime, maybe I'll see you out there
Man, brother, I wish i could come fish with you one day. I live close in New Bern I never have much luck going out there. I'll trade HVAC tune up 😅
I’ve been trying to tie up to those bridges you fish for idk how long haha. I have 21’ CC no trolling motor and it seems like I just get rocked into the pilons, every time. Experience helps I guess! Tight lines brother!
You got some great eats ! Way to go man.
nice job
Nothing like riding home with a cooler full of fish and purple fingers
That boat traffic can get crazy there at A.B. bridge for sure!
We'll be down in the morning, maybe we'll see you out there.
why do you sometimes "prune" the urchins spines, but other times you only crack it but do not prune it?
Grocery shopping at its finest
Looked like a great day to me!
Loin Shopping hell yea
Wow buddy pretty s sheepshead
Slayed em!
Ohio Here. We're planning an off season trip to the OBX, & I'm wondering if those sheep will still be inshore, or up the feeder Rivers come Oct? (small boat fishing)
I'm also wondering where you bought those urchins, & how much,,, *5 gal bucket full!?) compared to the crabs?
& Thanks loads, for the entertaining & informative videos!!
I'll make sure I pass your link on to all of my 'salty' friends!
BTW,,, you should come up here & try your hand, for some of our monster Erie walleyes!! Some awesome fishing right now.
Sheep are here near the inlets year round, just have to find where they are hanging. Catch sea urchins on the bridge pilings at low tide with a crab net. Good luck sir!
Fished a bridge today with mug crabs but they are much smaller than yours it seems. something kept stealing allllll the crabs. i see/feel the bite, pull and hook is empty. what is going on??! 2/0 through body center on 20lb mono. first time trying for sheeps
It's not easy to hook these fish, try larger crabs or urchins. Small sheepshead do not take the whole crab, they pick at the side of the body and legs avoiding the hook. Larger fish suck the whole crab in and are easier to hook...
I don't want you to do it for me but I'll be down in morehead city soon with my son and I'd like to see how you find fish and how you capitalize on the bite.
how and where do you catch the sea urchins?
What time of day and what tides do you find the most success?
It really depends. On hot days morning and evening are best. Check the solunar and fish the best times listed on the chart for that day. Slack tide is usually the worst time to fish but I have caught some whoppers on dead low. I fish all day and let the fish tell me when the bite will happen...
@@offkilterfishing I like that philosophy, gotta convince my wife though lol. Hope to see you out there sometime.
How do you feel them with heavy gear like that? I fish that area a lot but I usually use med spin.
I keep my left thumb on the line and I feel everything. Also they tug on the line HARD, it is not difficult to feel them chomping on the large baits I use. I let them chew until my rod tip drops and then give them the business. I use heavy tackle to get large sheep and drum out of the structure.
Do you have FB
I really enjoy watching your videos. Why do you guys never at least let us know the general area that you fish?
where did you find the urchins?
Thank you for sharing. What kind of vacuum sealer system do you use?
FoodSaver FM5200
@@offkilterfishing thanks
You need to
stop with these big Gaps in your footage… your all I got to what I can relate to brother… I told you already, I’m from Charleston SC, fishing under the bridges and Ports.😂😂😂
When do you feel is the best time to set the hook? Right when you feel the bite or let them take it or put some pressure on it before you set the hook?
@@drewsmith6141 I use two big baits, I let them chew for several seconds and wait for the rod tip to drop before I set.
So jealous I'd love to get in on some that action. Hit me up need a fishing partner. I live in area. Never caught sheephead like that...
Curios - how many crabs or urchins do you lose before getting a bite?
It really depends on how aggressively they are feeding. I can go hours without a bite or catch 6 fish in a row. Sometimes they bite finicky and sometimes they swallow both hooks. Just have to be there soaking bait to find out.
@Offkilterfishing generally how many ounces of weight are you using for the bridge fishing? Thanks!
3 ounce egg is standard
@@offkilterfishing thank you! I will be in your area Aug 13-16.
Do you harvest the urchins yourself?
Yes, tons of them around the bridge
What city you fishing in?
Targeting sheepshead I'd probably go A ton lighter on rod and reel.
Where or how do you catch sea urchins?
I use a crab net, check the bridge pilings at low tide.
What kind of rig do u use
It is a double hook Carolina rig that I have developed. Check video description for instructions on how to tie...
What kind or size of a hook are you using?
4/0 Gamakatsu Octopus 4X Strong
Do u have the number of the style of Gamakatsu?
Where do you get the sea urchins?
They live on the bridge pilings, get them at low tide.
@@offkilterfishing what bridge is that? I’m moving to Sunset Beach in a few months.
Where do I get sea urchins
