      Arcadology. You just broke my heart. How could you not even mention the "fastest map possible" anywhere in this video? It is an absolutely integral part of the history of Starcraft and a huge reason why the game stayed relevant for so many years. Still a nice video 👍🏻

      Westwood's Dune II is not a direct sequel to the novel, or anything in particular actually. Naming it Dune II came from a weird mixup between Westwood and another company that both thought _they_ held the licensing to Dune games, which they technically both did due to corporate mixups across several companies but arguably neither were actually suppose to have any rights at all. The "First" Dune game is some weird point-and-click adventure game. I don't have a direct source for this, but I'd suggest the video by No Strings Prd called "Dune - The Grandfather of Real-Time Strategy"

      I know its old but it was specifically Ion storms Dominion Storm over Gift 3 that was the specific reason that got them to shift gears and improve Starcraft, even tho the games presentation at that years E3 was in fact faked

    Very nice!! I’m not a Starcraft fan but I like a good story! All I can say is I went to South Korea before and the hotel TV had one channel, I assume on cable, that was 24hours of streaming Starcraft! Years before twitch or the Tube! So I love that you put that in there!!

    Starcraft is literally a cultural icon. There is so much history in the game. It goes beyond just being a popular game... it influenced so much. E sports literally was created because of Starcraft as well as DOTA, which was a starcraft UMS map first before warcraft three. Such a cultural influence. For example I loved watching starcraft so much I decided to learn Korean and now I speak Korean and the whole experience has merged into a lifestyle.

    • @k-leb4671
      @k-leb4671 3 года назад

      I thought Street Fighter 2 also contributed to the "creation" of e-sports.
      Also DotA was never a StarCraft map. Aeon of Strife was, which DotA was based on.

    • @alexfriedman2047
      @alexfriedman2047 3 года назад +2

      @@k-leb4671 ??? YEah obviously I'm talking about Aeon of strife. Aeon of strife led to to Defense of the Ancients, which led to DOTA2. My entire point is that if there was no Starcraft there would be no DOTA. Thanks to Starcraft UMS that concept was born. At least you know of Aeon of strife. Most people just know that it came from Warcraft 3, but they don't know Starcraft was the grandfather.
      And Idk about Streetfighter. I guess you cxould say that. Starcraft is what created E sports as we know it today. The skill ceiling is much, much, much higher in Starcraft. It's because of the Starcraft scene in Korea that companies realized how much money could be made in E sports. If you take away Starcraft then Street fighter wouldn't influence shat. There would be no E sports like we know it today.

    Starcraft - what a fantastic enterprise! Now I mean the original from 98! It got it´s title, it really kicked but and I would say it´s still the best RTS of all time! These games aren´t done anymore. The story is fantastic - and the love and devotion for the game must have been crazy at the time. I enjoyed another vid also that included that they hadn´t been able to finish the battlenet code even just prior the release and what craze it was to send people with the cocurrent projects over to the other office to race against the clock. Fun fact from the vid was also the cast which included actors such as the one behind Mr Burns in Simpsons:) There was such a devotion for this game; they really gave their all, actors included. I just love the fact that the actress behind Kerrigan - Glynnis Talken Campbell - for many years as I checked hadn´t even a picture at IMDB. Still holding millions of fans around the globe! That´s genuine achievement! I still collect those Kodak-moment pics of her that I´ve been able to pic up during the years from the studio where one can see the focus lended over to the character. It´s really impressive. Even though the second game completely undermined the first, including the characters, it talks for what a milestone it was; managing to lend value to just crap, enough to make it work (through the original game). Like inflation in national economics. I was so furious how much they had drained characters such as Kerrigan in the second game and I´m so relieved that Glynnis Talken Campbell was denied the role for Starcraft 2. The reason escapes me. That although makes the character intact and untouchable for ever and furthermore - it did´t draw the actress down with it. Nothing against Tricia Helfer - not at all. She could only work with what she had. Starcraft made the benchmark for its entire genera to come and still managed so beautifully to keep the game universe open for all that wanted to continue to develop the world it in their own way. I have never seen anyting like it - ever! Not since Tolkiens´Lord of the Rings.

      @@Arcadology literally the first paragraph of the Wikipedia page for DotA. Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002) and its expansion, The Frozen Throne. The objective of the game is for each team to destroy their opponents' Ancient, a heavily guarded structure at the opposing corner of the map, which is based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft.
      The first version of Defense of the Ancients was released in 2003 by Kyle Sommer who goes by the alias Eul.[15] The map was based on a previous StarCraft scenario known as "Aeon of Strife".
      Also, from the source within that Wikipedia page: Defence of the Ancients (DotA) stems from the map design of the Starcraft custom map Aeon of Strife.

    • @Arcadology
      @Arcadology  4 года назад

      That’s more DotA was based on a custom map for Starcraft rather than DotA itself being a mod for Starcraft. I see your point but I wouldn’t outright state it that way.

      No, Lore is what makes the games fun and keeps players. StarCraft doesn't promote lore, only competitive, that's why it slowly died down. Look at games which update both much lore and gameplay at the same time. Warhammer 40,000, Warframe. Both have amazing worlds filled with lore and interesting characters and that's what keeps people coming back.
