I wonder how many of these comments were made without watching the video. Seeing as most of the complaints were addressed, I'm going to say at least half.
Weird really. I don't even play SC2 but still wonders where he got his numbers from. Funniest shit : when people tells him other numbers, he answers by saying "well they don't communicate their numbers so you're wrong". OKay.. So where did you get yours from ? - cue radio silence

Honestly game got a huge second breath with arcade, modding and co-op. Being more casual player - it was really nice just to play different mods and coop with cool commanders with different untis, abilities and play styles. I was never into competitive games or esports in general, so having coop\pve-focused mod was pretty nice for me personally.
And then they killed the PVE Mode. We should be glad we got the last big update for the Commanders, giving them all 3 different subclasses. If it had been according to the SC2 owners we wouldnt have gotten that.
Coop mode was so fun. All the different types of faction / rts types in one. Reminded me of overwatch a little, in the sense that ow is a combination of many different fps types.
arcade was the biggest let down of sc2 lol, no individually hosted lobbies meant only the most popular maps ever got hosted. there was no incentive to make new maps and the scene never even came close to sc1 or wc3's. the next big rts will be the one that does UMS/CUSTOM/arcade correctly and revives the scene.

Dead? The playerbase is quite healthy, the matchmaking quick, and there are tons of professionals playing the game at a level higher than ever. I don't think it's fair to say Starcraft 2 failed. It was a highly successful game that lead the charge for esports on a global scale. Other companies would love to have a game as successful as this one was. Not all games need to last forever to be considered a success. I wouldn't say Half-Life 2 failed because it's currently a dead game. As a side note most RTS players only cared about single player, and campaign in RTS games. This has been mentioned many times by Blizzard, and other RTS developers. They enjoyed the campaign and loved it then moved on. That's okay.

@nerdSlayerstudioss How's the StormGate shill coming along? Seems to be one of the worst received RTSs in recent history other than reforged. Looking at the steam charts, the game came out 2 months ago, and is sitting at a little over 500 active players as it's daily peak. We gonna see a death of a game about Stormgate considering the mass player exodus compared to how many people were playing the game in the first week of its release?
Over 70k games played per day (more than AoE), multiple million dollar + winning players still going strong, million dollar tournament starting tomorrow, hundreds of thousands of views on SC2 games that occurred just this year on multiple channels, content creators putting out videos that get 50k+ viewers every week. AoE2 actually has a lower population than SC1, let alone SC2, let alone both combined. Blizzard not releasing their player numbers lead to these types of misconceptions. Otherwise, some good points have been made in the video and it is cool that you used the video to promote Stormgate :) Edit: Since my answer isn't going through for some reason I will copy-paste my reply as an edit. I don't know why you made the assumption that you played SC2 more than me or that I wouldn't have receipts but anyway. For SC1, it is quite easy actually. You log in to battle net at Korean prime times and see that it has over 25k concurrent players logged in to its servers. That's about the same or slightly higher than what AoE2 is getting (DE + HD combined) these days. You can maybe argue that AoE2 also has some players on Game Pass but SC1 players don't even count those who are playing the campaign, single player skirmish or hanging out in the main menu. At best, we can say they have similar player numbers. What you said about AoE2 having more players than SC1 and SC2 combined is clearly false just from these numbers. For SC2, Blizzard used to hold summits with content creators and provide additional info. TotalBiscuit said that during one of these summits, devs mentioned SC2 had 2 million monthly active users. That's in 2017 but shortly after that summit, SC2 switched to F2P and actually show an increase in playerbase. I don't really understand this video. I guess it's only from the competitve PvP point of view. Because as a campaign and PvE player, SC2 was a success. The game offered a lot of content, the best quality of life of any RTS ever (UI, pathfinding). It has been supported for 10 years before being shelved. It's easy to learn, hard to master. And there's tons of community-made content, from the SC1 remake Mass Recall to the coop versions of the campaigns. I replay through the campaigns every year and play coop regularly.
It wasn't a success in Blizzard's eyes, because of the amount of return didn't match the investment in their eyes. The game is set up to release content endlessly, but it's been on a skeleton crew for _years_ now. When was the last time they released anything worth mentioning? It's frankly in the same boat as HotS.
Blizzard needed to change their focus and direction, to cater to the casual crowd in order for SC2 to be successful, as in past tense, because it was already too late that Blizzard was already ruined long ago which I didn't realize back then

Co-op was my bread and butter and I always enjoyed helping carry those in need through difficult missions to help level up their commanders. Particularly during covid when they allowed players to be any commander for free for a time. The learning curve was what kept me from staying too long. I had not participated in the main multiplayer much knowing my own weaknesses as a player, and the general skill level of the people I would be up against would be a frustrating at best. I got the game as a gift close after launch when I bought a subscription for a gaming magazine, played it a few times, but it didnt really appeal to me back then, the campaign of WOL wasnt my cup of tea and I didnt understand how to play it in multiplayer. Then I went to college and met a friend who played the game a lot, we spent so much time together taking turns to play matches, watching pro games, analyzing replays, inventing new build orders to beat people with on the ladder. One summer we just holed up at my parents house for months and all we did was play Starcraft 2 for 10 hours a day, with occasional breaks to play other games. I remember we played a 4v4 once, where one of our Terran allies was almost completely dead, all he had left was 1 ghost and 1 nuke. He cast the nuke at a seemingly random spot on the map, and 2 maxed out protoss armies walked into it and died. The ghost got 99 kills on expensive protoss units with 1 nuke, I still have a screenshot of it saved on my harddrive. We won the game. Another great game was a TvT my friend played, he went bio and the other guy went mech, harassing with blue flame hellions. The game went extremely long and eventually got into mass raven versus mass raven. They spent 2 hours throwing missile turrets at each other, slowly picking off buildings after the map had mined out and they both ran out of money. In the end, It was 2 and a half hours in, the final battle came down to a single floating barracks vs a burning missile turret. They were both spamming turrets in 2 places to try to kill the other guys last building and end the game, while protecting their own last building. Came down to a photo finish. The missile turret went down when my friends floating barracks had 3 hit points left. He didnt even realize he had won the game until I started shouting. Truly an Epic Gamer Moment (TM). I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life and I wouldnt have wanted to spend my summers in college doing anything else. We are now both a bit older but still play the game sometimes and watch all the IEMs, ESL tournaments, GSL, and Im excited, with some trepidation due to the location of the event, for the EWC this August. Hopefully with the Microsoft acquisition of Blizzard, they will show the game the same amount of love that they have put into AOE2 over the past years, and it will experience a revival. While it is now a 14 year old game, the engine still holds up very well, and it is imo the best RTS ever made. You could argue Brood War has a better pro scene and better game balance at the pro level, which I agree with, but from a technical point of view, SC2 is a much better made game. I hope it will get new content and patches to make it as good as BW is at the pro level.
No updates does not mean the game is dead. A polished game does not need to be updated every month. Its just not for everyone.. but the community is still alive and kicking!
StarCraft will never die. It is one of the best science-fiction stories ever told. It has it's cohesive, believable story and captivating characters like no other. StarCraft has captivated so many minds since it's birth, that only your title is offensive to it's legacy. This game and it's story will never die and will always be a cult classic. StarCraft and StarCraft 2 still to this day keeps it's players to hundreds of thousands around the world.
Scarlett winning IEM Katowice 2018, Total Biscuit's Shoutcraft Kings monthly tourneys, HAS vs Serral, Kiwian's livestreams, MCanning's video campaigning to be the US Contender for NationWars are just a few of my favorite memories. I think the game failed for a few reasons, but the primary reason i think, is that in the last decade of introduction of mobile gaming, as well as the increased popularity of short matches in many games; to encourage more games played by players, while SC matches can run a bit longer; and the skill ceiling is incredibly hard, and many of my friends, for example, don't play SC2, and never did, and never will, as they think the game is too hard. The failure of the WCS was also a great detriment to the popularity of the game. Also, that pet in WoW that made more money in sales than they ever made off of SC2; which is a real bummer. RIP SC2; you still are a great game. Let's hope that Stormgate or ZeroSpace can hold it down and bring back RTS to more players.
I would not call it "dead". It is still the most sucessfull RTS for over 10 years. Multiplayer RTS is a really niche genre. Tons of people stay play Co-op or the Arcade. Moders did a lot of custom campgains in the last few years.

If the game is being kept alive by the community only, it's basically a corpse that's being reanimated by the sheer force of will of the community. It's the same situation with Team Fortress 2. It's basically a zombie that's being kept alive by the community, but it's still a dead game to the developer. The game is dead and inb4 yes I am aware that Valve did push out a temp fix to a public server issue after years of nothing.
how is this game dead? ppl still play it, there are still tournaments happening, and the koreans prefer starcraft 2 over fentanyl, not sure where this guy gets his info.
How is it even possible to not know how you lost when there is a robust replay where you can see exacly what your opponent did and where you failed to counter it?
The irony is that what somewhat revitalized interest in SC2 a little bit (in Korea at least) is with the help of its predecessor SCBW. There's a custom game called SC Evo Complete that allows players to also play the BW version of the races in SC2 engine and it's been quite popular for a while.
The difference between SC1 and SC2 races are so big that you begin to question the design philosophies between the two games, especially thematic integrity
@@alport1331 A great mod which is why I wonder why didn't Blizzard do that themselves. I mean when SINS of a Solar Empire split their 3 factions up into Loyalists and Rebels the same could be done with BW and LotV. @@razorback9999ablethat’s funny to hear all these years later. I noticed it when SC2 was released all those years ago, it didn’t resemble SC:BW much at all and although I am a massive StarCraft fan, I refunded the pre-order/purchase. And just went back to playing brood war. I don’t think I’ve ever ran into anyone else who ended up doing that. The game got a lot better when they replaced Browder as designer.
I had such fun moments with family and friends with this game when it went free-to-play. I just wished they made the casual player's experience better. Starcraft 2 tried to retrofit the casual and pro experience together, which was bound to fail. I hope Stormgate will swoop the dust of RTS and bring it back to its glory!
I was in the midnight event for StarCraft 2 release. The music played. The crowd went wild when Terran 1 was played. And somehow, StarCraft turned out to not be this Space Western but a generic "oh, the big bad must be redeemed" kind of Story Blizz was far to fond of for a while. Wings of Liberty was awesome story-wise. Heart of the Swarm really made the Zerg interesting. Legacy of the Void really tried... but failed miserably at the epilouge and with the copout of "shadow void" units rather than design a fourth race for the Campaign. Multiplayer? Oh, I guess people care about that. I did once.
All the campaign stuff involving amon was never great, but all the stuff surrounding it was really great with interesting character moments and new lore. Overall i still think it had a great campaign across the three releases but that was in spite of its villains and plot not because of it.
19:50 “The custom game community was actually pretty small “ This is the only thing I disagree with. No, The community is not small and this game is still alive by the community with many new mods that keep coming. GGG’s team even made a mod launcher for all of the campaigns: Nightmare mode, Play with AI, Real-scale unit, meme campaign, etc. Even special campaigns like Mass Recall which is SC1 and BW in SC2 engine, UED first light with their own story, and all voice acting. The game's lifeline is the community.
It is ORDERS of magnitude smaller than SC1 and WC3. I can debate #s, or the social politics about it if you want? You have to think... I have been playing arcade lobbies since 1999.
I got to see a live StarCraft 2 competition when I was in SK. It was a mind blowing experience seeing a whole arena full of people to watch other people play a video game.
For a game I honestly thoroughly enjoyed, SC2 caused me more stress and anxiety than any other game, by far. The quote about "feeling just as stressed when you win as when you lose" is SO spot on. When you lost, you just felt like you sucked. When you won, you just felt like you got lucky. I remember having a few build orders I'd practice daily for an hour, sometimes two, only to play one or two matches... it was a lot of waste time and anxiety for nothing. I played the first two campaigns, and own the third, but will likely never finish it. All in all, I eventually wound up spending more time watching others play this game, than playing it myself.
Love the replies coming from you dude. Based on every response in this comment section from you, you're basically having a childish tantrum and not really answering in a mature manner. Seems like you're having a mental breakdown. I don't know what has transpired in your life to act like this but man, it was probably deserved to be honest.
Nobody actually demonstrated in those instances to watch the video. So here you are, crybullying about people who couldn't make arguments...for what? Performative points? I don't get it, we've never even interacted before...how do you know how I am acting, or acting differently exactly? Because you watched my videos? Lol
SC2’s map editor is straight-up an IDE. Play some Mafia, do some Island Defence 3, run a Kobold Tribes lobby, yell Oh No It’s Zombies! The SC2 Arcade has some real talent in its creations.
This "dead" game currently is one of the few games being contested at the biggest esports tournament of all time, with a 6 figure prize on the line. Right now, it is in the top 30 games being watched on twitch. Would you say that type of thing happens for a "dead" game? Whatever your arguments are, you shouldn't have labeled it "dead", as it carries a really clickbaity connotation. I understand what you're going for but it's still flat out wrong. The game isn't dead. It's a lot less popular than it used to be, yes, and many tournaments have ended, and itll probably completely die out in a few years. But as of right now, it is not "dead". Not by a long shot. You've got a good thing going here in this series. Don't ruin it by reaching too hard.
Your opening argument, is mocked in the video. I would try to watch the stuff you comment on so passionately, and pretend you know what my series is about when the 7th episode wasn't covering a literally dead game either. Welcome to the channel and thanks for the support though!
The replies in these comments from you are definitely pushing me away from watching your content. Youre having quite immature reactions to criticism for a game that seems quite far from "dead" just less updated than others.
All of that whining and tone policing me to make the same dog shit argument with your fee fees. That's comical. It hasn't been updated in a year and a half, which means it actually HASN'T been updated like the others.
With all of my distaste of Acti-Blizz, with my inability to get into SC2, I still agree with other people, that this title should not be featured as dead game , as while it may be past it peak, surpassed by sc1 etc etc it's far from dead.
I refuse to play again until they patch it so that I start with 66 workers, 6 gases, 3 bases, and +1/+1 upgrades already started. Then I can play a full 3 hour game in 30 seconds like everyone wants.
nerdSlayer, I want to offer some personal criticism, and then a bunch of other personal blurbs about my experience with the game. I love your videos btw! So.. I do feel that you essentially put too much emphasis on the competitive mode. For perspective, I've put at LEAST 5000 hours into the game since it's launch (when I was 12 years old!) All of this time was spent without any time in competitive believe it or not. All of my enjoyment came from mastering each campaign as they came out, getting the achievements, and then moving over to playing the co-op mode over and over (along with many hours spent in the customs/arcade before official co-op was released.) I just feel that (not specifically you) but MANY people write off SC2 as being a competitive game where non-PvP players couldn't enjoy it, but I feel StarCraft 1 fits that bill more. Expanding on this below. I'm at least very happy you touched on the co-op commanders at the end, as in my opinion it was the single greatest innovation the RTS genre needed. Let me know if you agree with this take, but I feel the StarCraft 2 Co-op mode was the analogous to games like Deep Rock Galactic or Helldivers 2. Games where you jump in with co-op buddies, play a fast mission that ends in 15-20 minutes, and jump out with some randomized elements. I have a friend who literally never plays RTS, but wanted to play StarCraft 2 Co-op. With that being said, I've been following Stormgate for a while now, and my fingers are HEAVILY crossed that it will succeed due to having co-op (with 3 players!) available from DAY 1. I think StarCraft 2 was superior to StarCraft 1 simply by sheer content alone. It's fun to have new toys, it's fun to have units with unique animations and attacks and abilities, which is something you never got in StarCraft 1. I'll always acknowledge the competitive aspect, but this is actually why I prefer things like Smash Ultimate over Smash Melee. To me, more content is more content, even if the older games were more "refined" competitively if that makes sense. I like sandboxes, I like having things to do, and StarCraft 2, especially with its co-op mode, delivered in spades. Anyways I hope you could understand by 1:00AM ramblings lol, keep up the good work and hope to see you in Stormgate!
While I respect your opinion ,to be clear my arguments aren't just based on opinion. They are based on the timeline of events, facts, and then my analysis from those. This means you might like SC2 more, or the co-op and casual modes more...but it seems the majority of other players didn't sadly, or didn't take to it in the same way. SC1 is literally played more, and has no co-op mode. Imagine if it did have one? And to be clear, THEY aka Blizzard put to much focus on comp...you should have an issue with them, not me. I am just covering it mate ;).
@@nerdSlayerstudioss Oh definitely. Also for co-op, I think the issue is that while it's literally the best mode ever made.. it came after StarCraft 2 was already on the downward trail like you said. If they literally went back to StarCraft 1 and offered not just a dedicated co-op mode, but also added new units exclusive to those PvE focused modes? Dude I would be playing that a TON. I would actually buy an expansion in 2024+ for StarCraft: Remastered if it meant brand new content haha. (In the same way I buy the AoE2 DE expansions because fun!) But yeah, what are your thoughts on RTS games possibly taking the Deep Rock Galactic approach? Basically a super fun, variety focused & content rich PvE experience where it's all about spectacle and having so many unique gameplay systems (which is what I'm again hoping Stormgate will continue that with its own 3vE co-op haha!) Finally, have you seen GiantGrantGames' video essay on "Why the next RTS will fail?" I think it goes over my personal points better than I can do here.
@@nerdSlayerstudioss They 'are' based in part on selective gathering of evidence. This is inconsistent with your approach to normal videos. As my last comment in this regard got stricken from this chat as I disagreed with your conclusions, understand that I (like you normally) highly prize comprehensive factual analysis. Cherry picking notes from a timeline to use in supporting an argument is not your normal modus operandi. Said differently, there are as many factors that contradict your assessment which can be factually cited as those which support it. A more apt title might be, "StarCraft 2, dying a slow death." Death implies a state the game has not yet encountered based on your own classical definitions of the term in other videos. Another comment of yours up north of this one asked a player 'You're going to try Stormgate too?'. So you are either genuinely that eager to play Stormgate and bought ten keys to give away to folks in a couple days, or Frost Giant gave you keys in exchange for fostering good will in the market. If it is the latter, you would not be the first person to accept a compensatory arrangement in exchange for an endorsement. Either way, I hope it matches your expectations.
For someone who tells a commenter "before getting emotionally charged" you sure do appear emotionally charged in your responses to others. On top of that, you seem to combat criticism despite ridiculing people in some of your videos when it comes to not taking it in stride. Like, are you alright man?
Wow... I was browsing the comment section to see if anyone was discussing Stormgate, the new RTS game from Frost Giant which is made up of mainly former StarCraft devs, but instead, I find nerdSlayer arguing with people. So disappointing to see the "If you disagree then say it to my face!" kind of attitude from this channel.
To be clear, you can check my earliest videos and I always expected a bit more than most do from their audience. 3 main things even. 1. Watching the actual content, and being able to engage with it. 2. Being able to read the rules and understand the context of the series and video. 3. Be able to argue your perspective if you have spotted a grave error, or strongly disagree. To be clear, nearly none of the negative commenters on this video did this. So the difference between me and most, is most don't even interact with their audience period, and second, I actually think it's hilarious to make fun of people who have an obvious lack of respect for me, my content, and the ability to argue in good faith (or period really). So for example, this comment is very "well you care about your job and arguments, and try to argue with people but when they don't argue back you make fun of them". Which doesn't offer anything of value to the discussion, thanks though!
@@nerdSlayerstudioss you must be trolling. You are also blatantly wrong -> game is still played single player on the campaign and also its still played online so its not dead anywhere, diminished, past its prime totally but not dead. You exaggerate its easy.

I absolutely love how your own sources in the description seem to contradict what you are saying. Sc2 live stats have the game at the 4k players EVERY HOUR, for the 1v1 competitive ladder alone, and that is for today. The forum post from March about Custom games being hacked calls the Custom players 'a significant majority'. Just by these two points, we can estimate 25k+ daily players of SC2. Which is nowhere near dead. AOE2 on steam is sitting at 15k, which you state is doing better supposedly. Furthermore, it is disingenuous to state that SC2 is a dead game because it has not received a balance patch for years, yet state in the video that SC1 has eclipsed it. SC1 has not received a balance patch this millennium.
NS Source: Trust Me Bro. Nerdslayer is really out here using the Call Of Duty definition for dead. While yes the game isn’t nearly as populated as it once was, it is still very much alive. The argument that it is dead outside of the professional circuit is very much asinine. The game is solely being kept alive by the fans, who not only run their own smaller tournaments (I am a part of one such group), but the players who actively contribute in things such as map creation. The game is still going as strong as ever, especially for its age. Many of the new competitors, like Stormgate and Battle Aces, can’t even hold a candle to the modern day status quo of the game. Hell, if it was dead how come you can get into a multiplayer match in less than 20 seconds most days, outside of “peak” hours? Also, when SC2 went Free To Play, WoL became free as well. Just wanted to correct you on that. As far as I can gather, most of your complaints about it being “Dead” boil down to you giving up on the game because it has a harsher learning curve, and you think that because there’s a slowdown/stagnation for a now nearly 15 year old game, that it is just “dead”. If this is death, then I can’t wait!
Game isn't dead, still has thousands of people playing it. Massive tournaments worldwide, constant pro league play. Active servers, map makers, and still receives support and updates. So I'm a bit confused.
So what I learned from this video is that Blizzard fumbled an entire competitive scene, then looked at OW and was like "lets do it again, exactly the same" and then wondered why it also failed.
All I know is, when I search for a game in BW, I have to wait forever and play the same people more often, even at the lowest level. In SC2 I get games almost immediately.
I play coop mission almost every weekend, and it only a few seconds to got a team mate. Never waiting for over 30 seconds. I write this on 2024 anyway...
The only thing left for this game is the modding community, which is funded by giant grant games. So there are cool custom campaigns now, like UED first light, someone is porting the whole warcraft 3 campaign into starcraft 2. They made a bunch of mods which changes the campaigns, like you playing as the enemy, or you playing with a different faction, or REAL SCALE put into the game. And there are a lot more, but the fact is still that, most of this is funded by Grant. They even made a custom campaign manager, which lets you play the custom campaigns, or the modded campaigns, via launching the campaign. So I would say Grant put this game onto life support, with us can just sometimes hop on to play some good custom or modded campaigns.
29:36 Broodwar faced many of the same issues (abandoned, outdated business model, no more updates & support, punishing learning curve), yet survived and seems to be alive and kicking.
2010-2011 was such a special time. SC2 really birthed the generation of E-Sports we have today. Meeting Day[9] in person at Blizzcon 2011 was a core memory for me.
I have to keep reminding myself that there are people who think that StarCraft 2 is a PvP game first with campaigns as an afterthought. As for me, the campaigns are the bread and butter of StarCraft, and I really don't care about the multiplayer, except for the co-op mode. For people like me, StarCraft 2 never "died" because they finished the campaigns, and I can replay those whenever I want.
honestly playing wol campaign for the first time was the moment that I fell in love with strategy games. Slowly building up your revolution with some pretty groundbreaking AI and systems for its time was awesome. All in on brutal felt like such an accomplishment for young me

@@nerdSlayerstudioss Yeah and I wouldn't say SC1, AOE2, or SC2 are failures. I don't get why you mentioned those games because I didn't. @HieronymousLex same.
@nerdSlayerstudioss How's the StormGate shill coming along? Seems to be one of the worst received RTSs in recent history other than reforged. The game is almost DoA, mixed reviews on steam, with controversies concerning their microtransactions, lack of a fleshed out campaign, being a sad imitation of SC2, and imbalanced PvP. Looking at the steam charts, the game came out 2 months ago, and is sitting at a little over 500 active players as it's daily peak. AoE2 actually has a lower population than SC1, let alone SC2, let alone both combined. Blizzard not releasing their player numbers lead to these types of misconceptions. Otherwise, some good points have been made in the video and it is cool that you used the video to promote Stormgate :)
Edit: Since my answer isn't going through for some reason I will copy-paste my reply as an edit.
Someone on reddit did some calculations when Blizzard was sharing more info on the client and came up with the number that SC2 had around 60k concurrent players without counting co-op:
www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/6w5lku/updated_starcraft_player_count/
And co-op is the most popular mode as mentioned several times by StarCraft 2 devs. We don't know about co-op numbers but since then, ladder playerbase has remained mostly stable:
sc2pulse.nephest.com/sc2/?season=60&queue=LOTV_1V1&team-type=ARRANGED&us=true&eu=true&kr=true&cn=true&bro=true&sil=true&gol=true&pla=true&dia=true&mas=true&gra=true&page=2&type=ladder&ratingAnchor=5638&idAnchor=272715207&count=7#stats-day
So it stands to reason that those numbers would be similar today. Co-op numbers might have dipped as that mode relies on new content but the numbers didn't include co-op anyway.
These numbers show that SC2 is clearly still the most popular RTS (I am hoping that changes soon with Stormgate's release). I don't expect you to be so familiar with one specific game and have all of this info. I wasn't being critical and was trying to correct one factually incorrect statement in your video and I was trying to be as nice as possible since I like your content. Cheers!

While I agree with a lot of this comment, I wholeheartedly disagree that SC2 is easy to learn especially for people new to the genre
Blizzard needed to change their focus and direction, to cater to the casual crowd in order for SC2 to be successful, as in past tense, because it was already too late that Blizzard was already ruined long ago which I didn't realize back then
i think most people swapped to mobas because it's a lower skill floor, Ik me and my friend group did when lol came out over playing pvp in starcraft though nowadays i'd rather play aoe2 over a toxic moba game.

When making a video about the most popular rts, beloved by many and still with million dollar prize pools, you should have preemptively stated some information in why you're making this video. preemptively saying why you are stating such (given how it doesn't follow the theme of the doag series) and why sc2 fits. Your usual games on this series are games that are legit discontinued or less than 100 players and can reasonably say that yes, this game would be difficult to play if I were expecting to play with other people.

There's SC1 vs SC2 mod (Think they call it SC2 Evo), which combines brood war and SC2, and it's taking off so much in korea right now, they host tournaments about it too.
Sure it's not as populated any more as it was when it launched, but SC2 is now 14 years old, 10 years if you want to calculate from the release of legacy of the void.
Most games would very much like to be this "dead"
Wow such a dead game i just played 3 rankeds waited 0.5 sec in queue, this game is so dead
under 30 seconds in a queue, for matched rank games. I remember being sat in other games for minutes and get thrown in with very experienced players to get ROFL stomped.
10 years old and still getting updates. Thats like a record of longevity. 500k cash prizes etc. "Death of a game" was a bad title decision.
Why is this guy hating on everyone who comments? Sounds like a cry for help. You never know what people are going through :/ Hope everything is all right!
I have so many memories of SC2.

StarCraft 2 died with the last TB's erect penis. God damn I miss him. He would have a field day with 'great' games we have today.
I would not call it "dead". It is still the most sucessfull RTS for over 10 years. Multiplayer RTS is a really niche genre. Tons of people stay play Co-op or the Arcade. Moders did a lot of custom campgains in the last few years.
There's also the resurgent modded campaign scene. Which seems to be breathing new life into StarCraft two.
AOE2 is infinitely more successful by every metric, and I cringe when supposed RTS fans like you pretend only WC and SC exist. Yeesh.

And also its pretty funny that you would talk like that to anyone seeing you're a giveaway scammer

LotV: Terran Dominion, Zerg Queen, Protos Scions
@@razorback9999ablethat’s funny to hear all these years later. I noticed it when SC2 was released all those years ago, it didn’t resemble SC:BW much at all and although I am a massive StarCraft fan, I refunded the pre-order/purchase. And just went back to playing brood war.
I don’t think I’ve ever ran into anyone else who ended up doing that. The game got a lot better when they replaced Browder as designer.
nah these replies are wild this video has more value for the comedy factor that is the comments than the video itself LOL
19:50 “The custom game community was actually pretty small “
This is the only thing I disagree with.
Giant Grant Games: no i dont agree with you.

Most stupid title. The game is 14 years old and still has a solid player base. Wtf is he on about?
SC2’s map editor is straight-up an IDE. Play some Mafia, do some Island Defence 3, run a Kobold Tribes lobby, yell Oh No It’s Zombies!
The SC2 Arcade has some real talent in its creations.
How much did they pay you to be riding Stormgate so tightly?
It hasn't been updated in a year and a half, which means it actually HASN'T been updated like the others.

nerdSlayer, I want to offer some personal criticism, and then a bunch of other personal blurbs about my experience with the game.
(In the same way I buy the AoE2 DE expansions because fun!)
But yeah, what are your thoughts on RTS games possibly taking the Deep Rock Galactic approach? Basically a super fun, variety focused & content rich PvE experience where it's all about spectacle and having so many unique gameplay systems (which is what I'm again hoping Stormgate will continue that with its own 3vE co-op haha!)
Finally, have you seen GiantGrantGames' video essay on "Why the next RTS will fail?" I think it goes over my personal points better than I can do here.

If this is death, then I can’t wait!
thanks for the support, even if you didn't bother reading the description, understanding the series, or watching the video!

So what I learned from this video is that Blizzard fumbled an entire competitive scene, then looked at OW and was like "lets do it again, exactly the same" and then wondered why it also failed.
Even worse lol, they saw OW and was like "cool let's be the ones who actually fuck it up solely!"
People in the comment section had really shitted on your head man with this one

I have to keep reminding myself that there are people who think that StarCraft 2 is a PvP game first with campaigns as an afterthought.
As for me, the campaigns are the bread and butter of StarCraft, and I really don't care about the multiplayer, except for the co-op mode.
