@@Yora21 Yeah, the Terran section definitely spends the most time on things that just don't really matter. Neat to know, but probably could have been summed up in a paragraph or two and then spent more time on the various factions that do show up in the game.
Much of this was found in the instruction manuals from the original release. I used to read the lore before bed as a teen. These days, whenever I hear rich people talking about living on Mars, I think back to this lore and it reminds me that it'll be the poor going to these crappy planets.
Yeah well every book or game or idea has backstory on why. Starcraft was originally an idea put forward to the Warhammer universe to be a part of it, but they denied and didn't like it. So the people created it as Starcraft and now Blizzard has it's major success lol.
The production value in this is beyond amazing, you did a fantastic job at bringing the story to life. Can't wait to see what else you do, particularly with the zerg.
Anyone else feel that the origin story of the Terrans is basically Australia but in space? Just as the British Empire sent its prisoners to Australia to fend for themselves so did the UPL send its prisoners to outer space to fend for themselves. The difference being that in Starcraft's case it wasn't supposed to be a penal colony but rather human experimentation on surviving in space, but other than that the 2 stories are eerily similar.
Yes, and arthropods dominate) But even in Starcraft, the atmosphere of colonization of the New World, and the terrans themselves are very international.
Very well done - at 40, I cannot wait to show this to my kid (13) whom I' taught Starcraft I to. Also - nothing to do with the video, but sound design (and design of one of the most feared Terran units - the mighty Siege Tank) - is better in SC I than in SC II. Greetings from Latvia, keep up the spirit!
More positive algorithim clout! I had no idea the history of the Terrans in the Korpulu sector was as turbulent as it was. This is another awesome video.
This was incredible, I always tried reading about the lore, and it seemed messy to me. You’ve put this information into a format that is not only very professional, but incredibly interesting! Thank you so much!
Narrated like this, really puts into view how incompetent the Confederacy was at keeping order. Their only solution was to imitate the United League of Powers, and they didn't imagine it would backfire terribly... even more by the fact they weren't realizing their hold was fading. Until the Protoss and the Zerg came knocking at the door. Really good telling of the story. It's been a long while since I read both the manual's official terran history, as well as the novel I, Mengsk.
If it wasn’t for all the atrocities he committed, you kind of feel a bit for Arcturus, especially given at first he didn’t want to rule the korpulu sector. His mother and sister were killed, and his homeworld was devastated by nuclear hellfire. You gotta wonder what clicked in him to go from freedom fighter to dictator. Especially given how charismatic the man is prior to the end of Rebel yell.
Mengsk is a fictional interpretation of real life dictators like Napoleon, Julius Caesar, Augustus, Chairman Mao, Vladimir Lenin, Fidel Castro and Adolf Hitler. Many starting off as Charismatic individuals who seek to change the system. But end up becoming the new system.
This way of doing lore videos is actually crazy good. That you for having cinematics so I know what happening much better, rather than just sitting in front of the screen speaking and showing pictures every now and again.
Wow, the original lore was actually surprisingly dark. I'm almost happy for the Terrans that they managed to get away from Terra, and its tragic to see Earth's fate in this world. Glad the UED fleet never managed to return to Earth, cause as evil as Mengsk is, the UED would've been so much worse. Such a tragic, authoritarian future... Still, i now the comment is a bit late, but good video! Old Starcraft lore is so much better than some of the newer stuff.
got a sub. Holy crap with the production value. most lore blurbs are just reading from wiki ect. but my dude made a legit movie with in-game assets to give context.

@@RekkinOnTheInternet the manual for this game, these lore stories, were /literally/ my bedtime stories as a kid. Hearing them red aloud again is such a treat. Thanks for doing it!

@@RekkinOnTheInternet I think it would be cool if you created the events of the Great War and the Brood War in the Editor, it would be a lot of work tho lol
This is great evidence proving StarCraft 3 can still happen: The Terrans of Earth have more then enough power and tyrany to be the jain bad guyss/invaders in StarCraft 3.
I loved reading through that. It was closer to a book than a manual. I might still have mine squirelled away in my battlechest version I bought many years ago. Sitting in a box in my garage.
Religious fanaticism? Unregulated capitalistic exploitation? Exagerated and fearmongering media coverage? Hate groups and genocide? I thought this was a video on starcraft, not real life lore...
This is lifted word for word from the instruction manual that came with the game. That’s not a criticism, merely a observation that most kids probably don’t even know what a game instruction manual is. Never mind that you could wring out a 25 minute video from what is probably 25% of the manual.
Yep, all three 'History of' videos are adaptations of the info in the manual! I'm starting to think I should have put that somewhere other than just the video description...
StarCraft and StarCraft 2 has some of the most beautiful and badass music in video game history. Man Blizzard use to be to good it’s tragic what has happened.
I have watched many videos with StarCraft terran origin none of them of i like as much as i like yours. Also upl looks like it continues from the events of cyberpunk 77
Mengsk could easily be a hero, but his trauma and extremism turned him into a sociopath. He became willing to to betray anyone, sacrifice anyone or anything, to get what he wanted. He became so convinced of his own righteousness that he became exactly what he hated, using the zerg to commit genocide and steamroll opposition in much the same way the Confederacy used nukes. His rule as a dictator is no surprise, given his extremism and idea of self-supremacy. He's intelligent and highly charismatic, but sociopathically cruel and self-focused. It's part of what makes his speech so, SO chilling -- it has so many elements of charisma and heroism, but the player sees the full dramatic irony.
awww man why didn't you include what happened on Earth after the departure of the colony ships? what happened to the ruth guy, how did upl change to ued, etc
The imperium of man from Warhammer 40k is much worse than the Terran dominion, the imperium of man turn people into servitors or they will sacrifice people souls to the god emperor from Warhammer 40k

Pretty realistic if you ask me. Most rebel factions that end up winning turn into dictatorships worse than the corrupt governments they overthrew.
