A fresh coat of paint is proven to entirely rebuild every engine on ebay.
Its standard procedure
We have a winner! ;)
Lol
That's the gospel truth, ...lmao!
Worked for an excavating company like that. Machine would come back out with a fresh half ass paint job and everything else still leaking oil and F’d up still!
Pat is the greatest asset to PowerNation.
An Uncle had the same engine, he did a few mods to it, like a computer tune, different injectors and turbo and exhaust mods on the stock engine. Pulling a heavy backhoe up a long grade one day, it began to lose power and started knocking and smoking very badly. It finally quit. He had it towed to a performance diesel shop, and they found the crankshaft was broke in three different pieces. That Callies crank they are using looks very interesting.
I love watching their shows.
You guys should watch killing a Duramax. Big hp on standard crank, rods and pistons. Gale Banks is the man!
That's what I said
Nathanial Holdridge Ok
That LML can’t hold a candle next to the L5P. The L5P is more beefy from the factory.
@@korn111685 see that's what i was wondering. So if I'm going to buy a Duramax... it needs to be an l5p if I'm going to go for over 600 horsepower... is that the gist of it?
Yeah big HP for how long? You probably wouldn't last 10,000 miles putting 1000HP through a stock rotating assembly.
Everytime I watch your guy's channel, it gets me through my day
That engine is taking shape nicely, good work guys 👍
Just painted my new engine last night...
Went with VHT's "Cast Iron". Man...it looks killer.
Why would you send an engine to the machine shop and not have them at least clean the deck surface?!?!?!?!
Because usually in the diesel world you DONT need a professional cleaning
This is the manufacturer recommended way of cleaning the deck, but they really should have done it before bringing it to the machine shop. That way any sanding particles could have been cleaned. You can't really deck these blocks without opening a whole can of worms.
I came here to say the same thing. Thought for sure the machine shop would deck it. Guess not with diesels. Learn something new everyday
Machine shops definitely resurface diesel blocks.
Happy to see more diesel episodes , be interesting if they did more different types of everyday Diesel engines .
An Olds Nintey Eight Diesel would be a good runner up.
@@boywhohasl1vedhascometodie469 you couldn't afford what they are doing. The tooling alone is outrageous.
@@TurboGTO288 not really, and Ive done some (a lot) or research from that point, it turns out the Olds diesel is a shit one. So why not an IDI?
These dudes made it feel like I'm watching a real life TV show ON RUclips and I'm loving every bit of it THESE MY DAWGS FASHOLY
the next episode will be them rebuilding the transmission and the rear axle, to handle the upgrade of that hp the engine now put out
Not likely on the Ford. Its the same 6R80 that people are using with supercharged 5.0 engines, and they seem mostly problem-free.
8:30 enter Yoda....the master.
I agree. I talk shit about all the shit in his pocket but he really is the bomb
I like it when Pat shows up
lol the rat at 10:23 by the bay doors got me.
Gale Banks changed all my perceptions on modified diesel engines
Ya'll plz tell me during this whole episode you weren't thinking or wondering wtf Gale Banks would have to say about this?!? …. LOL
me too lol
no fire rings,
block and head for the win
This was a not a lp5 duramax which came with much better internals than this duramax did so that's why other people get way more power out of stock duramaxes
LT you got a lot of skills, gas or Diesel. Glad I got to meet you at Beach Ben, with your Dodge racer.
John is the man.
It is much easier to install the camshaft first when the engine is completely disassembled. You can reach into the upside down block to guide it into place.
I’ve always said and do this, I don’t know why everyone always puts it in last 🤷🏻♂️
Slap a factory duramax badge on it. Less is more
Diesel nation let's gooo
I love this show but I have a question I was wondering why didn't they us the alternate fire camshaft in this Duramax engine
LT's the man
knock off rage against the machine intro 😂😂
Mac doing good. Can't wait until Frank and Charlie join him over here.
You guys should do a detroit diesel 6.2-6.5
Howd they get the head gasket thickness? Just wondering since its an aftermarket head.
Great show as always! RUclips drives me crazy with the maniac loud volume on commercials. I live in an apartment and have to run to the computer and dial the sound back so management doesn't show me the front gate! Thanks, Google.
I like the fixture that he uses with the dial bore gauge. I am so used to seeing people holding the dial bore gauge directly to the outside micrometer to calibrate it, and I have no idea how that can possibly be accurate.
I was surprised to hear that the .001 inch of clearance for every 1 inch of crank journal rule still applied to diesels. I'm so used to seeing wider clearances on everything diesel, because of how much more pressure it puts on components when compared to gasoline engines.
What about the trans and rear end? Will they be strong enough to handle more power?
Where is the next part of this truck build? Coming later?
Not seeing the cylinder induction hardening marks. Did they get honed off?
Even the 6.6L LML Duramax engine is great swapping in all Corvettes and Camaros, including all Classic Chevy Caprices.
Block was at the machine shop and you didnt have it decked. 😂
Wonder what happened to the viper truck and eco boost f150. So much more to do to those trucks.
More diesel content plz
Can't wait to see on a Dyno.
let's hope they're not the "diesel makes power when they smoke a lot" guy.
These doods are my guys... instead of using a speed wrench and taking for ever, they snug it down with an impact instead then torque... love it... always hated using a damn speed wrench when I can use an impact
Also, that is a very nice mic set... im jelious
only use the soft plastics that are in the sale box, or the 1$ bin
Had no idea you guys were located in Nashville, and I’ve been watching for years, shout-out from dickson
I think their studios are in Franklin.
How much is this build gonna cost, just for parts I’d love to do this to my lbz.
Why did you attach the torque plate with head bolts when the engine will be using head studs? Seems like that would defeat the whole process since bolts distort the block differently than studs.
I always love reading the comments on these videos all the armchair superstar mechanics on what they would’ve done differently and what these guys are doing wrong
Would you have had the block decked at the machine shop?
@@Jordan91alexander no its a diesel
@@Jordan91alexander I def would’ve had em check it out and deck it if necessary
But these dudes don't do everything right. Lmao. These dudes are not that good and are more actor than anything else.
Gonna make an episode showing you disassembling the ATI balancer to install the water pump? 🙂 I made that mistake too lol.
Yaaawwnnn... what happen to the SRT-10 vs. the F150 build-off.
So, lemme get this built diesel dropped into my 1955 sedan delivery 4X4 and I'm good to go!
Gale Banks backs up what he does with explinations of what, why and how.
Unless you go aftermarket main caps or you’ve spun a bearing, line hone is overkill and not necessary but to each his own. Crank is overkill too.
If you're changing from main bolts to main studs then a line hone is necessary as they torque on the caps different and distort the caps differently
LML cranks are junk, a goal of 1000hp and even a brand new LML crank is sketchy at best. Reusing a stock crank, especially LML, is just asking to pull the motor again. And no one with half a brain would install a new crank into a Duramax without checking line bore and line honing at minimum. Not uncommon for them to get line bored.
Would rather have overkill than a killed engine if you got the means why not go all out
literally everything you said is wrong Duey. thats impressive
Should have took out that pos two piece cam gear and put in a lb7 lly cam gear
diesel power is made with the fuel pump big turbo pump and most of the time valve springs enjoy the diesel content mixed in
Ooooohhhh he didn’t call Pat before he installed the pistons
This channel is drug😍😍
I work on light duty diesels for a living, it takes crazy money to make good reliable power.
5:04 the autotune kicks in 😂
What the hell
WTH happened to the Dodge srt10 and F150 comparison??? Is that over??? I was looking forward to more!!!
When yall going to do a ford 6.0 liter diesel build ?
Hey , What would happen if You capture the Moisture off of Diesel Engine and turn it to a Hydrogen gas and feed it back into the Intake?????
More Horse Power???
So im wondering which parts are from original engine.
You'd think they'd use the alt fire order cam!
What can yall do with a 7.3 Ford Turbo Diesel?
What year?
WTF is going on with Austin's accent? Is he from everywhere?
Sometimes creole, sometimes Tennessee, sometimes Texas. All in the same shot.
It's his overwhelming desire to try to be the coolest guy in the room. It's really annoying.
I'm still trying to figure out why he doesn't have an accent on Always Sunny, but has one here.
He is definitely trying too hard...
He sounds like a Cajun who took a job in Tennessee that requires him to speak intelligibly.
I'm guessing as this is Tennessee all the work is free " The Volunteer State" well that's the badge on my wallet. Great video, informative.
Why no fire rings?
What about dyno that beast? Put some numbers on, fine tune it!!
Diesels have so much more power than gassers
Algoritm 🥂😉👍
You're right, I am judging you for those cab lights - a semi driver
So this is a 2020 Denali?
With an engine of this power level, I had assumed you'd use "Spiral Locks" on the wrist pins instead of normal snap-rings...
Diesels don’t rev high enough.
There are some that can reach 7,000, but just not the same way as you would think.
PLEASE do a video on the Ford 3.2 Liter Powerstroke!!! do not get confused with the new 3 liter, I wanna see big numbers with their older 3.2! It was the lowest powered engine offered in the Transit from 2015 to 2019. It is a 4 stroke inline 5! Stock 185 HP and 350TQ. I have dreams of buying one and dropping it in a car to drift, but I financially will never get to see that itty bitty block turn into a pocket rocket diesel. One of the smallest diesels Ford ever made, and has a TERRIBLE reputation for its power output. For the low price and size, I've always had the biggest hunch it could be a power house if the stock turbo was upgraded, FI played with, and a solid tune. I would sh*t and giggle to prove my friends wrong on the 3.2!!! Please do a build on it!!!!!
I got a neat engine yall should build.
2:47 is that car wizard?
so are those still technically 4 bolt mains? or is there another name for them since the other bolts come in through the side?
I think some people call them "Cross-bolt mains" to account for the bolts that enter the sides of the bearing caps.
I am soooooooo going to inform gale about you guys😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
thank you
Banks power did almost 1200hp on stock internals
it would make more sense to talk about the masking and painting before talking about cleaning the gasket surfaces.
don't you love it brief 3 second outlines of 4 hours of detailed tedious work, too?
I don’t get why they didn’t have the machine shop do the headgasket surfaces
@@Dropbackdurbin_ocs because they want to show people at home how to do it themselves and save a buck
Is he from Louisiana or Brooklyn?
More diesel!!!! Mister Banks kind of diesel!!!
and when LT says driving it weeks ago, he means like 7months.... atleast that's when he posted on Instagram with the engine out lol
Well, they probably recorded that part 6 months ago and it takes months to create one episode lol
Do any of you ppl ever answer questions that can really help "Joe American" w/ his truck issues ??
I have a 1999 Ford F-150 w/a 5.4 V8. I understand the aluminum heads are very thin where the spark plugs thread in. That's why I've had 3 spark plugs already blown through the threads having to be fixed w/helicoils. I understand they can't be fixed twice. Solve this problem for good.
Questions :
a) do you know of this problem ?
b) do you have a recommendation you could share ?
c) are there aftermarket or other heads available that don't have the same problem & could fit this engine ?
Thanks for your generous consideration,
Steph (Stephen Boeker)
Leesville, LA
Its actually been proven already that those Elderbrock heads do basically nothing over stock heads. I think it was like 10hp more? Was either Gale or DuramaxTuner that tested them.
What hillbilly puts a battery on the seat?
Exactly, make your sister hold it!
Holy shit. Cringed hard at that.
@@otsenres1636 buddy had a shitbox m1009 that had batteries relocated to rear floor board, i have no idea why thats just how we got it.
I start classes at a diesel school this fall for heavy and medium duty truck technology.
I cleaned the engine. Then shows him painting over the rust 🤣🤪
I remember seeing a product that it's a paint but the oil runs off it so the oil returns to the pan faster and keeps the oil off of the motor making it easier to clean. I can't remember the brand or name of it so I guess someone's going to have to Google hahaha
1000hp and doesn't get the block decked...nice
ok, but how do i do this to a motorcycle engine?
Why ya had to Mike Wazowski Austin at the end man had em take a whole photo shoot to put the monster inc logo on his face damn near 😭
Austin can polish and detail cars to pay for that Powerstroke engine rebuild. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
4:30. Actually, There are rules. ….you just mentioned them. Hahahahah
I'm interested to see this engine on the dyno and see how it compares to Gale Banks' killing a duramax series.
thinking the same thing. sounds like they will run a compound set up hopefully they will run an "intercooler" lol
brussell639 Different engines and builders so don’t expect much. Gale is using a stock engine too
Wiping paint work with a paper shop towel? My god that is to painful to watch.
How do I get my truck featured on the show?
I'm not European 6.6l is 402.6 cubic inches correct? Give both. Ain't powernation in the USA also?
yes and yes.
@@edysinsimon8646 Thanks and yup
I have a question. I was looking at that block and I was thinking how similar a gasoline and diesel block were and then I thought, “would it be possible to convert a gas engine to a diesel?”
Eh. You can, but it’s not really realistic. Diesel engines have much much more compression than gas engines, and the stress and vibrations involved, the fuel injection system. It’s not worth to do that
Why would they got through all this work and not put a alternate fire cam in to take all that HP stress off the front of the crank
You wouldnt ever slide a non roller tip piece of tool steel on a journal, thats the easiest way to scratch it.
Final wipe down of an engine to clear it of machining oil is done with soapy water, and when its clean, then its oiled.
Jet wash... Yeah, no one ''hot tanks'' engine blocks anymore. You wouldn't have any paint to deal with as mentioned at 5:52 if hot tanked instead.
