Kim was shredding on a Holdsworth level long before we'd heard of Eddie, Randy or Yngwie. Had Max Webster broken through the US market in the 70s/early 80s he'd have graced the covers of Guitar World and Guitar Player regularly and be permanently etched on to the collective's 'guitar god' psyche today. Just amazing writing and playing right back to the first Max Webster album. Cheers from Toronto!
Pete, that was one of the best interviews I've ever seen with Kim. The topics and discussion were everything I've wanted to hear Kim talk about for so long. I've been a huge fan of his since the Max Webster days, when they played at our high school! Thanks so much!
🇨🇦🙏
Love Kim Mitchell. Classic Canadian Rock at its best. Cheers
So great to see Kim. Followed Max Webster since the late 70s. Thanks. P.
I'm originally a boy from "Tarawna" ;) growing up in the 70s, moving to the Left Coast in 1980 and if you lived in TO at that time and liked to rock, you know this Legend. Kim is one of the great unsung heroes. Love the guy, all the Max Webster and solo stuff. Great interview and thanks, Kimbo!
Rockland and Universal Juveniles are two of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard. And I’ve heard a lot of albums.
That was terrific. Love Kim, his music, approach to music and general attitude, and you asked great questions and interacted super-well with him (it must be a Canadian thing). Thank you so much for this treat.
Cool....Thanks for all the great tunes Kim...saw you in Hamilton place with Max Webster " you guys sounded awesome " You just keep making great records
Just awesome Pete. As a young guitar player growing up in Toronto , Kim was part of my early Mount Rushmore of guitar. I was so lucky to have Kim , Alex Lifeson and Rik Emmett do so many shows in our area and they are all such great guys. I've met all of them and they all lived up to my expectations.
Vivid and wonderful memories of Max Webster backing up Rush at the Montreal Forum in the 70s. Kim was wearing pyjamas on stage. Most of the Montreal crowd probably didn't know who they were. After the first song we were all on our feet screaming and yelling. We loved it. They were absolutely hot and on the entire set. At one point the lights went out and a bunch of Spotlight started circling around on the floor and Kim said, "what are these strange lights dancing around on the floor?" and the crowd started laughing their heads off. What a fantastic show! what a fantastic band. It's not easy being a backup band and when you're trying to back up Rush it's even tougher. These guys pulled it off in spades.
Saw the same show in Vancouver. Loved Max Webster. Love Kim Mitchell. Great Guitar Player.
What a treat! I've never seen Mr. Mitchell live, but have nearly all his albums. So great to see the two of you geek out and reminisce together! Awesome show, Pete! Congrats and Thanks!
Thanks guys ! The best interview I’ve seen in a long time. Kim is so humble and a Canadian icon at the same time. ✌️🎶🎸❤️😎
Huge Max Webster and Kim Mitchell fan. Thank you Pete, thank you Kim. ❤️
Kim Mitchell! So great.
Excited to see this, and sorry I missed it live. I still listen to Universal Juveniles all the time. :) Incredible tunes and playing.
Thank you Pete in honouring Kim. He is one of my biggest inspirations. I love his spirit and personnality. I saw him pre covid in at the kemptville fair. He was headlining the show. David Wilcox was opening. David is a monster player and musician as well. Cheers from the ottawa valley.
Thanks for this interview, Pete! I got turned into Kim Mitchell because I am a huge Rush fan, and have Max’s entire catalog on CD! Go Toronto Tontos!
Pete, this was an amazing interview! Kim is such an interesting guy and I loved the natural way this interview went. It’s great to see guys that are a Canadian kid’s musical heroes still going strong so many years down the line. I’d love to see more interviews like this with other great Canadian musicians.
Me too! I hope more of these happen
Fabulous interview Pete! Kim is a great personality all around. I’ve been a fan here in Canada forever! To see him enthusiastic is truly refreshing! Made my day! Thanks man!
Awesome interview Pete, Kim is the man !!! Saw Max open for Rush in 1980 and was an instant fan of Max and the solo Kim following, sooomany awesome albums !!! He’s such a cool laid back super sharp and fun guy ! Thanks for this slice of awesomeness !!!
Wow amazing interview Pete with an amazing guy and musician! Huge Max Webster fan here and saw Kim's band live a few times, incredible show🤘
Cool!! Let me go for a soda and kick back and watch this video! Been a big fan of Kim Mitchell forever.
Yep I concur a great chat guys I've really enjoyed it. Respect and stay healthy all
Well that was a great way to end my Sunday. Kim, please do a video on how the hell you play Honey Forget Those Blues. A jewel among a body of jewels. Thank you for a lifetime of inspiration and fun.
Thanks for a great interview of Kim. I watched the whole thing. So many great topics and nice to see fellow Canadians !!!!
Still playing a couple of his tunes on our set…just such fun and soul pleasing music Kim makes…he is a Canadian treasure!
What a cool guy, thank you to both of you for doing
Love Kim Mitchell! Love Max Webster! Love this interview!
Are you kidding, Uncle Bob is fantastic!!!!
As a kid growing up in Vancouver I was given a copy of High Class in Borrowed Shoes way back. I remember looking at the cover and not knowing what to expect. Ended up being a huge fan of Max Webster and Kim.
It was just this morning that I listened to Kim's solo EP in its entirety. OMG, one of my VERY fav desert island vinyls!
Total coincidence... and I then discover this interview tonight! Nice!
probably The most Underrated guitarist in Canadian history. That Riff in Go for Soda after each line in the verse is just Heaven to me. I'm 61 so I've seen him a few times over the years and he is a master and a great guy.
When kim mitchell played our towns free summer festival it was rained out. He actually rescheduled and closed the summer series. Kim played like a house on fire and played 4 encores. Peterpatch loves ya kim
Don't know if we are just not seeing the big pictures, simply amazing how they can be sound familiar from the get go, like dreaming of the music like it's always part of the collective world wide
That was an absolute blast, what an enchanting interview and how really interesting Kim is, surely only scratched the surface today, a part 2 would be great
Nice job Pete for bringing on Kim, Kim rocks!
I play acoustic live and I agree with Pete. IRs are the answer. I use a Fishman Aura DI to load the IRs as well as an LR baggs Anthem pickup with a little reverb from LR baggs align reverb pedal and a little delay at times for solos and I finally love my acoustic live tone!
Kim is a real cool and good artist, and guitarist 🍻
Hard to believe the sounds he was getting out of those little Fenders! Great, great interview!
Good Job Pete!!! Kim Mitchell...WHAT A TREASURE! Love his music. I enjoyed it . CHEERS!
What a wonderful guy. Ok, so I just pulled out the 3 Kim Mitchell CDs I have and will give em a spin. And while rockin' out Canadian bands - my latest CD I just bought was Reckless. 2 of the greatest rock songs of all time on this album, and no one knows. Uh well. Cheers from Germany!
2up2bdown is a terrific song- I was glad my first listen was with headphones- that second half was such a surprise with the changes and guitar solo! What a great intro to your music for a new fan like me
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE NO ONE AROUND ME EVER RECOGNIZED!!!! Max Webster, Rush, Triumph, April Wine!!! The greats of the white north!!!
Uncle Doug is a great channel on amp repair. Plus he teaches.
Wow super interview, so much fun to watch, one of your all time best :)))
Oh noes!!! I missed it! I had so many questions. Ah...well. It's a great replay!
just listening to some rock history here, it's just so damn cool
This was amazing, I grew up listing to Max and have followed Kim throughout his career. This was a great interview finally got to hear about some of his gear etc... NEED MORE... Thanks for this.
I’ve loved Kim since Max Webster days. I grew up and lived by the Niagara boarder to Canada all my life. Love Kim thanks for some of the music that’s made me stagger to many jukeboxes
That was fantastic Pete! Thank you for an incredible discussion with Kim!
Man, i had a big smile on the whole interview… I’ll watch this one again, and again. Thank you!
Pete, Totally amazing interview with Kim. I could listen to him all day.
I love that Pete mentioned Caroline and Called Off (Alana Loves Me is another really pretty tune). I would love it if he had time eventually to sort of dissect KM's playing style.
Oh, and of course, a part 2 would be great as well. In the meantime, thanks a lot for this, Pete & Kim - it was very cool!
The best shows i have heard and seen were Kim Mitchell playing in a club on the west side of Montreal. Life changing!
Just listened to “kids in action” what a great tune!
Amazing rock song!
Great show
🔥🤘🔥… Great interview Pete!
Btw. Akimbo Alogo is one of my desert island albums. I’m so glad Kim is still at it
All We Are!
Me too!
The most Canadian thing a guest can say "Am I talking too much, sorry). LOL!
Great Show Pete. Great insight into Kim and his wisdom. He survived a wild and crazy time in music and retained his soul.
Awesome ❤
You guys needed some Tim's or a Kokanee !
Great interview, highly enjoyable.
Thank you sir .
Kim is a legend! My favourite lick of his is Max Webster "Let Go The Line". Thanks for a great interview!
Kim is just a legend. Thanks.
This is great !, thanks so much guys "We're sensitive little creatures Pete!" Resonates so much..
What a lovely guy. I wasn’t familiar with him or his music until now but I’m very grateful to have been turned onto it here. Thanks for the great interview Pete.
That’s the best. You’ve got so much great music to catch up on, I love discovering artists with terrific catalogs like Kim!
Kim is just the best.
Fantastic interview!!!
🙏
Yeah!
Me as well! I have all of Kim’s music but have never had the chance to see him live. I’m still looking forward to that possibility! I hope he tours in the near future and makes it to the SF/Bay area! I may have seen him if he toured as a sideman for Gorden Lightfoot but if he was there I was unaware of it at the time.
Hello Pete thanks for doing this. To be able to see two of my huge influences on the same show is incredible. Kim is an amazing player and human being. Ran into Kim at the Toronto Bloor L+M store parking lot and we were both wearing the same shirt. He says "hey nice shirt"😂. Great dual selfie op.😎.
All the proud Canadian stuff aside, which I am by the way, what a great interview.
Both you guys are a treasure in your own rights and makes us all proud and these insights will inspire the youngans and oldans too!!!!
As always, JD
Great interview!
Great interview Pete ! Huge fan of Max Webster and some of Kim’s solo work. Fantastic guitarist that I have turned on some metal guitarists to. Hail the leaf 🇨🇦
I love Kim is still a regular guy. He is truly a great rocker!
Always dug Kim and his music!!….I’m from the Detroit area, and him being from just across the St.Clair river, have considered him kind of an honorary Michigander!!….he even has a certain cadence and sensibility that is familiar to me of home!!….great interview Pete!!
I'm not sure what you're drinking there Pete, but why not just "go for soda" ;)
Great meeting of the minds - loved it!
Love it!!!
Wow! "Best I Never Had" sounds killer - great track 👍
Awesome right? Such a good song. Check out Georgian Bay! Some incredible playing on that
Such a great hang!!
Thanks Ben!
I am gonna listen to battle scar right after this.
Saw max open for rush in Dallas
In 1980 I got to see Max Webster open for Rush. Been a huge fan of Kim ever since. Check....check...check.....check.
Deluxe on 10, treble 10, bass 0, distortion plus. Who would have thought? BTW, Kim's Crosstown Kazoo was the correct pitch to the record. :)
Move to Berkeley, they don't respond to noise violations. I play at around 94 dB till 10 o'clock at night. The drummer over there keeps going 😆
New T-Shirt "REAL AMPS!"
What is this? This is a rock song. Where are we? We are in Rockland Wonderland.
Rock n' Roll Duty!!!!
Chuck chuckers all of 'em the whole lot. Who were we talking about again? Kim is a pretty big name but you just don't hear Max Webster mentioned everyday. Thanks guys. Kim
@Petethorn just watched it great show will kim set up his own RUclips channel in nearby future? Also will you do any guitar lessons feature his own and max Webster songs?
This was a wild party under some patio lanterns.
Early on in the interview Kim said that he felt that his hands were not working great. I was at the show, and I thought that Kim played great. His singing was also very strong.
What would be a good album to hear the best of kim’s work?
You really can’t go wrong. Akimbo Alogo Is ground zero for me, because of my age. But many that came after and all the Max Webster that came before is awesome too
HUSKER DU! AOMU, Check this out! so many great songs : )
I gotta Hangover.....:)
I was told if you play a solo that blows everyone away people will remember for 5 minutes. If you screw up royally they’ll remember for 1 minute.
cats in the bag neighbors holler
loved it!! maybe we can see other canadian rock people like Rush, Bryan Adams, Glen Willows of Harlequin etc on the show in the future, love your interview style pete
Thanks so much! I would love to speak to any of those folks
He knows He's Alotta feathers and not much chicken....
Beauty Eh .
