I think it should be in a sunny window with the NOAA alert on. Salt water spray could mess up this radio. I got one recently, panel stays up but not very tight. But I prefer the panel down facing out to the sun.
The plastic cell bag is a good idea. Otherwise the battery can discharge and leak. I take a cell out of my flashlights or a piece of masking tape on one end. when they are not used, or in a case while traveling. I had a flashlight turn o0n in the bag, and it was dead when I needed it! If you just wand music via radio, buy yourself a cheap MP3 player with radio, or a cheapo AM/Fm radio. Use the crank or solar panel to charge external devices, the internal battery is worthless (600maH), and you won't charge anything. Use a real power bank with a 20,000maH battery.
I just bought my KA600 new from the AD, and it has the older NiMH battery, and I just got a bunch of the 3.7v Lithium cells! Fortunately, cells fit my tactical flashlights. You still can't program a SW frequency using the buttons; you press the numbers, then SW, and it goes to the next band!
How can you have the radio in your possession, and not open the obvious battery compartment on the back and see the replaceable rechargeable battery? Boggles the mind!!!!
its not I can't find the battery , its the fact that I have not found a battery replacement that worked. I should of been more clear on that. I tried several with the exact same battery type with no luck.. May be mine is defective? I'm not sure. Others had the same issue so I am not alone
You can tell it was labeled by a Chinese guy, because Tun should have an E on the end. And the instruction booklet is written in Engrish. The radio does get a stereo signal, if you have stereo earphones, but it has a monaural speaker. I would like this radio better if the earphone jack was on the top or the front. Be careful when you crank: start slowly, then go faster, or you will strip/break the gears inside. I wouldn't use this as a "power bank" because the internal battery is so skimpy. Use the crank or solar power bank to charge an external device. I like the LOCK feature, because if you accidentally press a button it changes what you WERE listening to, so I Lock the buttons.
