Not becoz of arrogance but the fact that they are as cold-blooded as Lucy Letby. They don't care about human lives, at least not more than their power and wealth.
Unfortunately you can't, unless you can prove one or more individual are responsible, the best you can hope for is corporate manslaughter, and the maximum fine is £20m which means is the tax payer will have to pay, and then the money goes back to government, in effect is a paperwork excise
Twenty-three years on the NHS front line taught me this: EVERY POLICY is about protecting management from blame, with mere lip-service to the wellbeing of staff and "service users" (ie PATIENTS).
@lavienestpasunlongfleuvetr2559 in most cases it's because companies and institutions recruitment of management comes solely for having a degree. They don't come in and learn the business and get promoted on merit, it's simply because they have a degree. I remember not long back the minister for fisheries came from a landlocked county.!!! You couldn't make it up.
Imagine your child being taken from you in this cruel way and then being told by the NHS in some ceremonial statement that lessons will be learned. It's a disgrace and not good enough!!! Knock it down and rebuild from scratch. Disgusting that that gentleman brought race into it.
Janlittle. Totally agree but that’s how people are all about race. Look for racism and you’ll find it only distracts from the real issues it’s about the hospital covering its mistakes.
Go back to Matrons being in charge of nurses , and Consultants in charge of medical procedures , and middle managers well just get rid of them and save a lot of money too.
My sister had a nightmare time 15 years ago in the NHS. I could write a book about what went on. She’s worked within the NHS for nearly 40 years and she says when she retires in one year the 💩s gonna hit the fan.
They did ignore doctors warning! Two doctors said the same, one on panorama and another doctor ravi jayshram actually showed the correspondance emails he had with hospital managers who told him to close the matter and apologise to HER! Several babies could've been saved had the hospital acted sooner. My heart breaks for those little babies, the terror and pain they felt in their final moments. I can't even get my head around it. The hospital bosses must be held to account too.
Mikes hit the nail on the head . If she had misgendered someone she would have been out. What dooes that say about life and death over babies which is far more important.
If she had misgendered someone there would be PROOF that she'd done so. The problem here is that there is a) no PROOF that any baby was murdered, and b) no PROOF that Letby did anything wrong. The police/CJS might get away with falsley accusing people (the are in a strong position to convince a jury to find a suspect guilty despite no proof), but hospital managers don't. There would be hell to pay.
As usual some people at the NHS are covering their behinds. They will still have to pay compensation to the patents of these babies and people who let this happen should pay with their jobs.
The trouble is there's too many NHS managers, Not enough doctors and nurses. The whole system needs a shake up from top to bottom, too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.
Are the same NICU ward staff that worked with Letby still there? They shouldn't be. With the increase of deaths and collapses with her working there and when she was out of the ward for a bit decreased, why didn’t they open their eyes?
She can't sue. What evidence is given in court has " absolute privilege" same as the house of commons and the house of lords . You can not sue for things said in a court , even if it not true, this is to allow witnesses to give evidence freely without the risk of being sued and it also to allow journalist also to report freely the evidence without the risk of being sued.
There is alot of interest in this story from ex NHS staff who were screwed over by management and who saw this coming. In terms of the allegations that BME nurses are discriminated against, thats not clutching at straws there is documented evidence of it. These nurses are treated worse by the regulator, the NMC, who have had to go on record to admit it and that they will try to address it. Its not exactly well known unless thats your area of interest, although it may not exactly be the most sensitive time to mention it as a political football. Even in studies I have done I have noticed non white nursing staff are treated differently.
1:00 "power dynamic going on... a huge amount of toxicity between the doctors and the nurses...." 1:45 'there is this terribly hierarchical environment... nurses, who aren't listened to'. Indeed. Very true. Toxicity and power dynamics in a high-stakes, stressful life and death environment which you would imagine could lead to someone that had been complained about taking the blame for someone or something else. There would be every reason to shift this blame elsewhere. Who is at the bottom of that hierarchy? Who is likely to take the blame? Nurses are at the bottom of the hierarchy. Who took the blame for losses in WW1 at the time? The soldiers. The bottom of the hierarchy.

Four years later, despite our repeated complaints, she was still in charge of this ward. A friend of ours also had his mother in the same hospital at the same time and she also fell. The following year the trust published published a report that claimed that in the year we are speaking of, only two people fell, what a coincidence that we knew both of them.
