Totally agree with that. They are dreadful human beings. He gave them a no show job with a salary of $200,000 and his father wrote him an email saying something to the effect of “Gee Sam. Didn’t realize we were worth so little to you.”
So he sent them a gift of like $10 million (of somebody ELSE’S FRIGGING MONEY).
Can you imagine being dissatisfied with receiving $200,000 in perpetuity for doing absolutely nothing at all?

But I had the exact same thought as Mr Paperny- how could Sam’s lawyers have EVER allowed these letters to be delivered to the judge??? It’s absolutely crazy the way his mother lectures the judge about his own biases, questions the verdict and basically says everybody is wrong about everything.
There’s also a major inconsistency- if she really believed he had done nothing wrong at all, shouldn’t she be arguing for no jail time at all? It makes no sense for her to think he should serve any time in prison at all as an innocent man. So, somewhere deep inside that black heart of hers, she recognizes how farcical it really is to claim he’s done nothing wrong.
His parents threw him under the bus to enrich themselves. They were more aware of his crimes and there consequences than he was
There weren't any crimes until Coindesk framed them as such which caused the failure of FTX and made it easy for people to vent their unrelated sadistic frustrations at something.

You know, it's like him and his family still haven't accepted the conviction and the weight this carries. They deliberated it for weeks and a jury of his peers signed their names on it. I agree with you. He and his family are past proving his innocence, need to accept his crimes and mitigate the damage. He needs to take ownership and rise up.

Madoff was fine with his life in prison, he thrived and so will SBF, his mother, and his father when they get their verdicts handed down to them.
Do you really think that Bernie "thrived" in prison? He not only lost his material fortune; worse he lost his family. He lived to see one of his sons die by suicide and the other succumb to cancer.
He died of kidney failure alone in a stark prison hospital. I am not convinced that we can properly say that Bernie thrived in prison.

I still wonder if there actually a trully long game in play where Sam was always intended to run some kind of scam they profited from, but be available as fall guy to protect them if needed.
The "wasted life" line means Sam is valuable to society -- unlike those Other people in prison who may as well waste away there.

It is sickening what they get paid, to the detriment of people who lost money. I saw that in the Madoff case.
SBF seems to be someone who was more naive than intelligent though his intelligence is considerable, He is. an example of a person who is both naive and intelligent at the same time. His life should not be wasted by a long prison sentence. When he. is let out is he likely to do another such scam. I hardly think so.

Unless the case is about his moral character dedicated to not killing animals for food stating because he's vegan doesn't say anything about his character, other than he doesn't eat meat. Just because people are kind to animals doesn't necessarily make them moral or ethical in their dealings with human beings. The case isn't about physical violence, it's about financial abuse. The mom is comparing apples to oranges IMO
I agree. Perhaps the world"a most notorious teetotaler and vegetarian was Adolf Hitler. And I don't think that he abstained from meat consumption because of his concern for animal welfare.

yeah doing nothing sometimes appears as the hardest option, even though rationally being the easiest and best. it's like in ski racing, where some skiers find the gliding parts hardest and lose valuable time on them, as opposed to the turns.

College degrees in prison? Had 50 grand in student debt that took 18 years to pay back. Should have got locked up 4 years and gotten out debt free with a diploma..
They wrote this because they don’t really KNOW him. He seems like he was an apparatus in their life when they wanted a family. What enablers. They should be thrown in with him.
3:10 That being true 'and' undone ~ both~? Well, for the kind of money they paid their lawyers, they must've had some pretty terrible ones. However, if SBF is not truly remorseful and if his parents do continue to enable him, then it is best the truth revealed itself and they were not rewarded. However, I think it will always matter who the judge "is". They are human too, with their own individual makeups and personalities and with values or things that are important to them; sometimes it may even boil down to which lawyers they liked better. I doubt seriously there is a shoe to fit all. I will agree some ways are better than others in most cases. We also have to consider what goes on between closed doors between prosecutors and the defense lawyers and the deals they strike behind a defendants back. After seeing how Clarence Thomas has not recused himself from cases that his wife is involved in and Roberts has not pressured him enough to do so, I've lost some faith in judges too.
When one doesn't have much to defend as far as someone else's charcter, I suppose they have to fill said letter up with fluff. Otherwise they would be submitting a blank sheet of paper and not a letter. 😅
It shows the arrogance of Fried, basically saying that her son cannot live under these sub-standard conditions. Prison is for the poor people, not for the Frieds. Despicable. After this letter 25y is lenient.
The level of entitlement of these people is disgusting. Obviously, she didn't raise him and was raised by a computer while his parents thought they were better than anyone. She talks about her son as if he were one of the neighbor's sons, totally detached from her role as a mother.
He did not show any remorse or concern for those lives he destroyed through financial ruin during the trial. Much money is also syphoned and unaccounted for. He deserves 50 plus years. He stole billions yet those who stole millions are getting 20 plus lets see if he gets below what those who steal millions then we know it is who you know.

Fortunately, my family won their trial after two federal indictments on the same charge. So, there was no sentencing letters. However, during the trial there were 3 character witnesses who were very effective and were absolutely following the guidelines you suggest here. One character witness was a Catholic priest who spoke of my family member’s character. Character testimony means a lot no matter the phase of the federal legal proceeding. I’m a little kind toward SBF and his mom along with Elizabeth Holmes. They simply have no idea what they are doing and have lead lives where their intellect has elevated them to lofty status. They have been congratulated by society with awards and an income and elite status that has lead them to have an inflated sense of their worth to the world around them. They are good people some who made mistakes that brought them into the federal judicial system. SBF and his family are in the process of learning the gravity of their predicament. Be kind. Don’t be too tough on their mistakes with sentencing letters.
