Judges are too freakin casual... This is a courtroom, not a soapbox. Keep it formal & professional. Judges think they can do whatever they want & that they're above everyone else. Watch all the judges on RUclips getting pulled over who think laws don't apply to them.
I love how the judge addressed the court room before the verdict was read. I have not seen that from any other judge before. The way she addressed the jury afterwards as well, thanking them with specific examples too. This judge is well spoken and she speak extremely clear and percise without having to raise her voice in order for the entire court room to hear her.
I have seen that sort of closing with more judges in the last few years - that said it is reasonable to remember that what we see 'streamed' is not necessarily all. I think if you know in your heart you are guilty and your counsel talk about that with you ( and any good defense team would) You would expect to hear it - not every sentence but the overall nature. Juries often have a meeting with the jury after a trial has finalised to take on any concerns - not about the trial so much but about their own individual issues or difficulties emotionallly.
I thought the judge was ridiculously obsequious toward the jurors, constantly and unnecessarily praising them for simply sitting there and listening. I would run through a brick wall to get away from her!! *This trial took ONE WEEK, ffs!* Typically, juries sit through _WEEKS and MONTHS_ of trials for first degree murder, and even second degree, with thousands of exhibits to keep straight instead of the maybe 25 exhibits here….this trial was the fastest and easiest trial I’ve ever watched, and I’ve watched at least 50.
I think freedom is precious! I can go and do things I want even though I have no money! The birds flying, the sunshine on my window, buying my groceries; and cook what I want to eat; see or call my friends anytime; see a movie anytime; all these things are better than the $34,000!!! Original Story: A former crime scene investigator in Florida is on trial for the September 2017 murder of a private investigator. 42-year-old Ashley Britt McArthur is accused of fatally shooting 33-year-old Taylor Wright over $34,000 before burying Wright’s remains under concrete on a family farm in Cantonment, about 30 minutes outside of Pensacola. Left photo: Ashley McArthur, 42 Right photo: Taylor Wright, 33 Investigators say McArthur, a former CSI, and Wright, a former North Carolina police officer, had been friends for about a year before the murder. During that time, Wright had entrusted $34,000 to McArthur for safekeeping while she battled her ex-husband in court over money and child custody. On Sept. 8, Wright reportedly met up with McArthur to collect her $34,000. Wright then vanished until her remains were found 42 days later on property owned by McArthur’s family. McArthur was arrested on Oct. 19, charged with second-degree murder. Prosecutors point to cell phone records, text messages, surveillance video and bank records as building the timeline, the motive and the means for how McArthur allegedly committed premeditated murder. Timeline of Events: August 16 2017: McArthur allegedly forges and deposits a $34,000 cashier’s check into a joint bank account. September 8, 2017: • Wright’s girlfriend, Casandra Waller, last hears from Wright in a text message while she was with McArthur. • McArthur is seen on video at Tom Thumb supermarket driving a silver Ford F250 truck. • McArthur’s cell phone puts her in the area near Britt Road, where her family’s farm is. September 9, 2017: • McArthur seen in Home Depot purchasing concrete and potting soil. • Cell phone records show McArthur in area near Britt Road. September 14, 2017: Wright reported missing to Pensacola Police Department by Waller. September 15, 2017: McArthur’s first interview by the Pensacola Police Department. September 16, 2017: Detectives discover the $34,000 deposit in bank records. September 18, 2017: Detectives reach out to Wright’s ex-husband, Jeff Wright. October 19, 2017: • Search warrant executed at 2201 Britt Road, where human remains were found with Wright’s jewelry. • A warrant for McArthur’s arrest is signed by Judge Robinson. • McArthur is arrested for second-degree murder. October 20, 2017: McArthur’s bond set at $1 million. November 7, 2017: A grand jury returns an indictment for First-Degree Premeditated Murder and McArthur is held on no bond. February 2, 2018: • Judge grants motion for pretrial release. • McArthur is released on a $400,000 bond with conditions she is to submit to GPS monitoring and reside at her mother’s home in Gulf Breeze. March 2018: • McArthur is charged with Arson, Racketeering and Fraud, crimes that reportedly occurred before the alleged murder. From 2015-2017, McArthur was reportedly lining her pockets with stolen money. • While managing her family business, Pensacola Automatic Amusement-which serviced entertainment machines and jukeboxes for various clients in the Pensacola area for 40 years-McArthur embezzled thousands of dollars from two local businesses. •Fire breaks out at PAA the day McArthur was supposed to meet with the local businesses about the missing revenue. January 25, 2019: • McArthur is convicted of Racketeering and Fraud but not Arson. • She is remanded to custody of the sheriff. February 21, 2019: McArthur is sentenced on those convictions: 84 months, or 7 years, in state prison and three years of probation. August 26, 2019: The case of Florida v. Ashley Britt McArthur for the murder of Taylor Wright begins. August 30, 2019: The defendant Ashley McArthur is found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to the mandatory sentence of life in prison.

We also live within a society and justice system that holds certain truths to be evident; one of those being the ability of the human heart, body and soul to be rehabilitated. Without that belief, people either fall into the ill(mentally unfit) or irredeemable (inherently evil)., and as such, members in the second class should be put to death. I'm not dictating pro's and con's, mind you...
Yeah it doesn't make sense. If you watch a bunch of those true crime shoes (Forensic Files, etc.) you can see the range of sentences people get for these carefully planned 1st degree murders. 15 years for that guy, life for that guy. It's inconsistent.
Always disappointed when they don't have the camera on the murderer when the verdict is being read. We don't need, or want to see the clerk reading it.
@@sandraday6955 FYI it was more to it than that. Her ex Husband stole $ from her. It was from the accident she had. Then a judge wanted her to split what was leftover from that. Crazy stuff.
She is in a state of shock, frozen. She could have been outside enjoying the simple things in life like going to the grocery store, making some tea in the morning, watching tv even with the annoying commercials we hate in normal life. Lifting her head up to the sun when it's a nice day etc. Probably dawns on her that all those simple yet so important things called freedom are gone! Now she can sit and rot in jail thinking about that and for what?! She chose to end this poor woman's life and her own. Pfff I will never understand these kind of things.
Me neither. I agree with you that she definitely looks like it is finally hitting her that she is going to rot in prison at least for the next 25 years. I'm sure she probably is reflecting on everything she threw away. Alot of times we look at the murderers and it is hard to tell if they are experiencing any emotion at all. She was greedy and and she could have just told Taylor she stole the money-or used it- and arrange a way to start paying it back. Worst case scenario Taylor filed charges or sued her for the money. She didn't have to kill her over it. Now she will waste the rest of her good/40's and 50's years in prison. IF she ever makes parole what can she do with her life when she gets out? She has always been a ho/slut two timing cheating type of woman so.......
ive been on two juries one was a murder, they treat you extremely well as a juror. I did have one female guard at the door who was garbage, but she is nothing the actual important people treat you well.
LOL that would have been so painful for the defendant - just told she was guilty and then has to listen to 10 minutes of the jury being thanked while she sits there and has to stew with the fact shes going to jail but without actually being told that and having it explained by the judge.
A man once said "there's a little larceny in all of us." This woman had everything she needed for a good life. It's mind boggling how twisted things can get.
Thank God, justice was served in this case! I know that there may not have been a lot of people there that cared too much about Taylor, but I do and no matter what anyone does or doesn't do in their lifetime, nobody deserves to die this way. Cassandra, I cannot imagine how incredibly difficult this whole ordeal has been for you. I give you so much credit for continuing to fight for truth and justice. Your heart obviously hurts, and I'm sure you feel so unbelievably betrayed and I'm sure, that after going thru this nightmare, you will question everyone that becomes your friend in the future, but try to believe that there are good people out there (most people are not like Ashley.)
That poor lady sitting in the audience is heart broken. I felt bad for her. Not sure whose side she was on, but regardless she is hurting. Prayers for her and all those involved or affected.
It's pretty heartbreaking seeing Cassandra right behind Ashley trying her hardest not to break down and Ashley just sitting there looking empty like I get waiting to break down til ur alone but the empty look is just unsettling
@@tommyhemlock7915 thanks for that info... I looked at some other RUclips's videos on this case and it explained the relationships. Cassandra was having a tough time keeping her emotions controlled. I can't begin to try to understand how each 'side' feels.
What’s hard for me when watching McArthur’s stone face as the jury is being polled, is seeing the contrasting pain and grief in Cassandra’s face, right behind her!
She was no friend...a friend doesn't do that to another friend....Ashley is cold hearted, she saw an opportunity to become $100,000 richer and acted upon it. Very Sad
I find it encouraging that the judge thanked the jury with complete sincerity and understanding. I have done Jury service twice in the UK and neither judge thanked us, the Jury, for serving (both cases were distressing) despite one case continually being interrupted adding 3 weeks to proceedings. Claims for expenses were minimum confusing and akward to access.
07:45 Ashley closes her eyes when the judge tells the public to be careful "out there" and then tells everyone "you are free to go".... Very curious to know what goes through her mind at that moment
I had a female roommate who tried to kill me for moving out on her. She used a hammer and knife on me. She could have been sent to a mental health institution for the criminality INSANE, but she didn't want to be classified as crazy. She died in prison
@David Vance , the woman she stole from and killed, took money she wasn't supposed to, in order to hide it from divorce proceedings so that her ex-husband would not be able to get part of it. she gave the money to mcarthur to hold and mcarthur killed her.
So true!!!! Especially South Florida crazy with the women. This lady here is just an example. Y’all have heard of “Florida man”... but he doesn’t come close to the crazy women here!!! Bats*%# Crazy and will kill you, chop you in to pieces, burn you to ashes and then bury you!
The saddest thing is watching the face of the woman (Mother?) behind Ashley as the jurors are individually queried about their verdict @ 4:19 . The immense pain is almost overwhelming.
It was the victms girlfriend. They were living together at the time of the crime. Her interview with police is also on RUclips and extremely Heartbreaking to watch.
When someone murders another there is never just one victim, ever..... It radiates out into the families and loved ones on both sides, they automatically become victims too and are suffering a prison sentence in their minds for life. The murderer has taken their lives too. Don't kill. Don't kill. Don't kill.
She shot her best friend, Taylor Wright, in the back of the head and then buried her on the victims family’s property underneath concrete; she killed her best friend for $34,000.
@@Slamber77 Wow that seems like such a trivial amount to do something like that for... I saw a video where they even have her on camera purchasing the bag of cement.
She seemed so annoyed and inconvenienced when Taylors aunt was reading her victims impact statement. No remorse whatsoever. She's a cold and calculated killer.
I have one child, I always remind her that no matter what she is going thru she should always call home. We as parent always want to trust our children to get out there but when things like this happens it breaks my heart for both sides. A pretty good one I think but yes it could be better but ... dont just look at the bad deeds of a few to judge the rest of the world based on them ...please .
I find it hilarious how in many of these cases after handing down a life sentence, they're always like, "Oh, and apart from spending the rest of your life in jail, you also gotta pay like $500 in fines and costs."
The way she arrogantly pushed the door open after being handcuffed and led away strutting down the corridor in her heels, makes me think that she is not remorseful at all....
She is an outstanding Judge paying compliments to all. Explaining things to the people in the court etc. Giving the Jurrors the time to explain what they can do after. She is a Great Judge!
This judge was terrific in her instructions to the people as some people clap at verdicts seeing the criminal going to jail, forgetting they have family too.

I despise the modern justice system's habit of asking people not to respond at pain of being held in contempt. These are hugely emotional results and people should be allowed to respond when justice hits. It shouldn't be sanitised simply because a judge doesn't like a human reaction. Love how the judge calmly set the expectations for decorum and restraint from the audience, forestalling the repulsive screaming and overly dramatic reactions that end up on Court Cam or Judge Judy type shows.
I actually think it's healthy to allow some release of emotion, this is a very particular time in a person's life. A court-room is a form of theatre. Americans do tend to overdo emotion though - if only they could keep it restrained and not grandstand.
Bill, with all due respects she does not look pure evil, in my opinion. She looks kind of scared. And it seems once the sentencing was complete the scared feeling left her, she willingly gave her fingerprints and let herself be handcuffed, ready to spend the remainder of her life in an orange jumpsuit behind walls, completely managed by others, without any choices, and without any privacy.
@@maximilian200057 Not true: She received a mandatory life without parole sentence for 1st degree murder. The 25 to life was *in addition* for committing that murder with a firearm. I love how the judge addressed the court room before the verdict was read. I have not seen that from any other judge before. The way she addressed the jury afterwards as well, thanking them with specific examples too. This judge is well spoken and she speak extremely clear and percise without having to raise her voice in order for the entire court room to hear her.
the judge usually always thanks the jury.
👍
That is standard
They always say nice things about the jury, our system etc
I have seen that sort of closing with more judges in the last few years - that said it is reasonable to remember that what we see 'streamed' is not necessarily all. I think if you know in your heart you are guilty and your counsel talk about that with you ( and any good defense team would) You would expect to hear it - not every sentence but the overall nature. Juries often have a meeting with the jury after a trial has finalised to take on any concerns - not about the trial so much but about their own individual issues or difficulties emotionallly.
One of the best judges I have seen...Fantastic job here. If I was a juror, I would run through a brick wall for this judge.
Helping a friend is happiness to me!!!

Original Story:
A former crime scene investigator in Florida is on trial for the September 2017 murder of a private investigator.
42-year-old Ashley Britt McArthur is accused of fatally shooting 33-year-old Taylor Wright over $34,000 before burying Wright’s remains under concrete on a family farm in Cantonment, about 30 minutes outside of Pensacola.
Left photo: Ashley McArthur, 42
Right photo: Taylor Wright, 33
Investigators say McArthur, a former CSI, and Wright, a former North Carolina police officer, had been friends for about a year before the murder.
Timeline of Events:
August 16 2017: McArthur allegedly forges and deposits a $34,000 cashier’s check into a joint bank account.
September 8, 2017:
• Wright’s girlfriend, Casandra Waller, last hears from Wright in a text message while she was with McArthur.
• McArthur is seen on video at Tom Thumb supermarket driving a silver Ford F250 truck.
• McArthur’s cell phone puts her in the area near Britt Road, where her family’s farm is.
September 9, 2017:
• McArthur seen in Home Depot purchasing concrete and potting soil.
October 19, 2017:
• Search warrant executed at 2201 Britt Road, where human remains were found with Wright’s jewelry.
February 2, 2018:
• Judge grants motion for pretrial release.
• McArthur is released on a $400,000 bond with conditions she is to submit to GPS monitoring and reside at her mother’s home in Gulf Breeze.
March 2018:
• McArthur is charged with Arson, Racketeering and Fraud, crimes that reportedly occurred before the alleged murder.
January 25, 2019:
• McArthur is convicted of Racketeering and Fraud but not Arson.
Many thanks for the amazing summary 🤙🏼

I can never understand a verdict of 25 years on a 1st degree. Life for a life. 100 years with no parole.

I actually think it's healthy to allow some release of emotion, this is a very particular time in a person's life. A court-room is a form of theatre. Americans do tend to overdo emotion though - if only they could keep it restrained and not grandstand.

Hi Kevin I agree.
Can we all just take a second to appreciate how the judge’s glasses match her earrings? Classy even in court. 💁🏼♀️👏
Ol girl didn’t seem at all surprised when they read the verdict...I wonder why.
There was a mandatory minimum.
She knows there's a higher power she will have to answer to one day.
Cause she's evil evil has no feelings
I just looked into the eyes of pure evil. She will spend the remainder of her life for a measly $34,000.
With good behavior, she'll only be in prison for 25 years.
She killed someone for the price of a new car.
@@maximilian200057 Not true: She received a mandatory life without parole sentence for 1st degree murder. The 25 to life was *in addition* for committing that murder with a firearm. Plus, she was already busy serving 7 years, to be followed by 3 years probation, in an unrelated fraud & racqueteering case. She's *never* getting out of prison, no matter what her behavior behind bars is.
@@tundrellaCat68 not even new just used high in.
And all for 100k!!!! Imagine what she would be willing to do for a million dollars? I mean to throw away your life for 100k? Not to mention the horrible betrayal and the horrible crime
For a million dollars she would have thrown her own daughter off of a bridge.
ikr. Was it easier murdering someone than just telling them you don't have their money?
It was $34,000, not $100,000.
@@raushaunrigsby1181 dang!!!! Even worse
@@mrt8393 Yeah, but you must remember, she is a narcissist, so it's really not about money but about power in her feeble mind. She would kill for $500 if she felt it was warranted as she is a psychopath.
Cassandra was more sad and emotional then anyone in the whole crowd. So Sorry to her Son, Ex husband and Cassandra and all Family and friends. Very Sad RIP Taylor 😇 heaven got an angel Love to you and love ones 😢.
So everyone here knows, she did file an appeal and in 2021 the original sentence was upheld. She must now serve her sentence as handed down.
So how much time she doing
@@ricothesavage1824 its mandatory 25 years. Then she can try for parole
@@holdDeez1993--I thought Florida didn't have parole. ?
@@SFVnative of course Florida has parole. They just try to make sure guilty people serve time for their crime
I thought 1st degree murder with premeditation was death penalty?
