- R. Kelly, a Grammy-winning R&B singer, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after being found guilty of federal charges, including racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, and bribery. Anyone with a brain can see Kelly failed to prepare for his sentencing hearing properly.
Why?
Like many defendants, R. Kelly let his lawyers do the talking.
Specifically, his lawyers said Kelly "experienced a traumatic childhood involving severe, prolonged childhood sexual abuse, poverty, and violence."
Who is better equipped to share this message? Kelly, of course. Yet, due to the appeal, Kelly did not address Judge Donnelly because he felt it could impact his appeal and other cases.
On what earth does sharing details about a defendant's life and background--including trauma--jeopardize an appeal?
By saying nothing, he was not in a position to influence the outcome. Instead, he relied on his high-priced lawyers to do all the work. It's part of the reason Judge Connelly handed down such a harsher sentence.

R. Kelly's situation should have never happen if the legal system function properly the Judges of court would have ensured Due Process, and Rule of Law were in order and took place.

“DNA report” for what? He was found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking. It’s just very well known that he’s also a child predator. This is the exact problem with covering stories like this. People try to call out the confusion around his trial, when they’re confused themselves.

I've been to family court and tried to fight for myself and could not articulate my situation very well for myself. Sometimes, your emotions cloud what you are trying to convey.
I am currently back in school to study forensic psychology after being a nurse for 30 yrs.. Your videos are sooo helpful to me in opening my mind to just how a person can make some truly wrong & life altering decisions for themselves and others and still become a better citizen. Sometimes, it's all in learning to understand and accept why your decisions were wrong. And ...... sometimes, it's a psychological/chemical issue. Therefore, psych care MUST be given along with incarceration in order for reform to happen for that person.

He's supposedly in prison for running a ring and sexually abusing little girls and lil boys. Not the sex tape, apparently those charges were dropped. So now the man is doing 30 years for something he didn't even do.
@@princeatom6755He was convicted of Racketeering and the Mann Act in New York in Chicago of 2022 it was a Mix verdict which was nothing but the same case from 2008 which R. Kelly was found not guilty for so that makes it Double Jeopardy? If you read the court documents you would see the inconsistency in these women testimony’s in both trials. They have violated Mr. Kelly constitutional human rights his civil rights that is why his lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean is prepare for a lawsuit? I never seen a case like this before in my lifetime. It’s not about rather you like R. Kelly or not it’s about what is right and wrong. Did the Law break the Law in this R. Case? I think 🤔 we know the answer to that.

I'm not defending R. Kelly and I am not an expert on his case but it just seemed to me that the tremendously negative media coverage made the his emerging victorious similar to scaling the Himalayas. It was a tough case for the defense.

I think this is all wrong. Those young people parents should have been locked up and charged. What kind of damn parents let their little children hang out with such older people then don’t have to suffer any consequences. They are unfit parents from the get go cause they should have had their children asses home. It ain’t like they didn’t know what was going on, now they walking around free and this man has lost his whole career for some children that was too young to be hanging out doing what they wanted to do. I think the parents should be charged too. And the children ain’t innocent either cause they knew what they was doing and now they just coming forward after all these years, yeah they wasn’t no angels then and they ain’t now. System failed this man. He will always be a legend in my eyes and his music is still some of the best there ever was.

R Kelly probably went in with the "my life is already ruined so there's really no difference between 10 years and 30 years" attitude. It's not true. Prison is a lot more productive when you're working towards proving worthy of your family's loyalty, and working for the forgiveness of those you hurt. You'll do a lot better in prison when you're setting yourself up for your eventual release date. R Kelly may want to forget about the free world now. His earliest release date is in his 80's. If he lives until then, he'll be too senile to remember his own name. R Kelly could have had a road of healing and rebuilding ahead of him, now instead all he has left in his life is counting the days until eventually he forgets who he is, or dies in prison, whichever comes first.

🧑🏽⚖️Welp, although the self proclaimed, Pied Piper didn’t get a life sentence, he won’t be eligible for parole until age 80. That pretty much translates to a life sentence… “Good Riddance”!
