I’ll be seeing Cody Jinks three times this weekend, and Turnpike twice! I love seeing your reactions to their music. Cody and Turnpike are my top artists!

I replied to another poster with this as well. But I think it is about a broken man being found by a woman, the man is the cat in the rain. She takes him in but by the end of the verse they move on. She ends with "I know you can't go home again but tell me where you land". The rest of the song is about a journey to rock bottom and recovery. It's his response to "tell me where you land". This is my take anyway. In the end he's still finding peace living a simple life even though there are storms in that life. I think you have to understand that Evan is a recovering alcoholic and to know of the details of his past relationships. I think it's autobiographical.

This one took me a few listens to really get into it as well but now it's one of my favorite Turnpike tunes. I believe it is somewhat autobiographical for Evan Felkner, the principal songwriter as it relates to his struggle with alcoholism and rehab (is that gin or turpentine etc) and the reference to coming out clean. Also, I randomly looked it up, Channel Marker 17 is a real bar in the Texas gulf, and it closes, as stated in the song, at 9 p.m. ( on weekdays) --- Also, on the production side, I read Shooter Jennings had a big hand in the production of this album making for a slightly different sound than some of their previous albums. After they broke up and it looked for a while we wouldn't get anymore Turnpike albums ever again, it was very exciting to see this come out last year.

She found a cat out in the rain... She felt sympathy for him and rescued or tried to rescue him.
It was the title track of the album, so they must feel it's their best. It does require several listens.
Have you done The Rut from this same album yet? A few fewer mental gymnastics with that one. And many fans wish they'd play it live. I enjoy the 3 they do play live from this album, though.

This, the Rut and Brought Me are my favorites from the album. Chipping Mill good for the honorable mention.

I think that covers the first two verses, ending on "tell me where you land". The rest of the song is telling "where he lands". This is not only my favorite Turnpike song, it's currently my favorite song. I've ran through it so many times learning to play and sing it myself. It's so well written.

I could be wrong. But what I interpret is this is about his drinking problems and going to rehab, and how his wife stood with him through it all. Seeing as Evan had an alcohol problem and went off the deep end, went to rehab and this is their comeback album. I could be wrong but I see this song as that.

I don't have any one favorite singer or band in any genre of music. But if I were to try and pick a favorite turnpike troubadours, Shane Smith and the saints, and Jason Boland and the stragglers are probably in a3 way tie for favorite Texas band

Loved the sound of this song, especially that drum in the background. Loved the lead singers voice. That being said, I do not have one clue as to what this song was all about. 😊

You're right, its a ton. I think its just about making amends, growing as a person, working hard to right the ship, all the things Evan had to do after the fallout with Miranda.
The part you caught on with enjoying half the morning, it really feels like its all about their affair, the fallout, and climb back

I kind of assumed you were aware because you're the biggest Miranda fan besides me lol. They had a very public affair after he married his long time partner and he spiraled out and they got kicked off her tour back in 2017.
Wild stuff. But for half a morning he got to be with the Queen
