I will tune my snare heads usually either high or medium tension (depending on the snare size, shell, etc). As for the snare wires, once my heads are tuned, I will lightly tap the top head with my finger until the snare wires are just enough to where the drum itself isn't overpowering the wires. I found this works best on all snare drums I have and it gives a nice balance of the drum and the wires
I like the snare side right, and the batter head at medium tension, with loose snare wires, that will really bring your ghost notes to life. And that's with a wooden snare, not sure how that would work on a metal snare.
Loosely goosey snare wires, that’s a Jim Keltner thing, I like to do that on certain snare drums, then there’s other snares that I like to tighten the snares up one whole turn above what he has...
Sam Robinson I’m looking for the actual movie. Back in 2011 when I bought a drum set from guitar center I got a vhs of like Beginner Drum Lessons with Mark Portnoy. So far I haven’t found the actual video online, just this clip
Nope its even older. I got my set around 98” and got the VHS with Mike P, John Tempesta, and Kenny Arnoff. Its super 90’s. They show clips with JP and his colorful guitar from Images and Words lol
It was a VHS called Out of the box and on to the stage TAMA included with their entry level kits in the late 90’s. It used to be uploaded on here in its entirety.
Mangini Must watch this !!
Sorry for the bad quality
mportnoy2blz it's alright!!
Do you have the actual full video? I used to have the vhs but now I can’t find a copy. I wanted to show my young cousin who is learning
But good feeling your style. 😂😂
Both heads super tight, (use black dots for most prog results) and loose snare wires.
