    I have to say... with all the sewing videos out there yours is one of the most real. Some of them are either so boring and all they do is talk talk talk talk talk about nothing or there's music playing in the background. Nothing drives me crazy more then that. I'm really happy that I found your videos. I'm really enjoying them. I don't understand with all the years I've been watching videos why I just found you. Hopefully more people start following you. It's well worth their while.

    Thanks for showing me how to change the blade without resorting to pliers. I think it would be great to show how to reinsert the spring. I have learned how since I end up having to do that now and then when I change the blade despite my best efforts. I do love this rotary cutter, it's saves my wrist a lot of pain.

    This rotary cutter is my favorite. I have both sizes. It works great with all rulers, and particularly my Stripology. It truly reduces wrist/hand fatigue. (And it is hard to get used to the screw being threaded counterclockwise.) I also use non-Martelli blades with no problems. I put my rotary cutters in a tray to stay save and reduce repetitive movements to close blade and keep me safe. I use my needle nose pliers to change the blade.

    Becca, thank you so much for this informative video. I bought a very cutter from my Quilting store and they didn’t give me much information. The owner of the shop doesn’t use this product but one of her assistants does but wasn’t in. I paid a lot of money for it but since I’m left-handed and getting older, I thought it’s best to be more ergonomically correct. I didn’t know how to clean it so thanks to you I know I can take my Martinelli Qatar apart and do just that. Thank you thank you thank you thumbs up.

    I bought mine over 20 years ago at a quilt show in Worcester, Ma. It was the only product Mr. Martelli was selling at the time. They have come a long way. Three years ago I broke the spring while changing the blade. Called the company and had a choice of them sending me a new spring or returning my cutter and for nominal fee they would send me the newest model, lol, they no longer made my original model. I love it and would never be without it. I originally purchased it because I have to sew, cut and iron while sitting and it is almost impossible to cut with any comfort with the other cutters while sitting. Mr. Martelli took a long time demonstrating and letting me try it, I was in my wheelchair and it worked! He was great and it is still a great company. One of these days I’d like to get the 60 mm one also. Thanks for a very informative tutorial. Ps love their blades also, they last longer than any others I have used.

    I am a lefty. Like most lefties I was shown how to do most things by right handed people, so I use scissors with my right hand. After watching your live session this past weekend, I started researching these rotary cutters. Subsequently I found this video, but also other videos that showed the left handed cutter. I decided to get it to try it out…what.a.game changer!
    I will probably never feel comfortable with left handed scissors, but I don’t think I will ever go back to cutting fabric with my right hand.

    Love Martelli cutter.
    Rule#1 Use ONLY their blades. Warning: Or you will have miss cuts. Their blades have round holes only. Not like other brands that have notches.
    Agree best tool in my sewing room is the Martelli cutter and I also love their cutting mats. Thick and durable with great marking lines that dont fade away.

    • @sewbecca
      @sewbecca  3 года назад +1

      The marking lines on the cutting mat don't fade, but I do still get gouges in them just like I would other mats. :( I wish there was a self healing mat that could literally take thousands of cuts in the same position and show no wear! LOL

    And great close ups as well as your happy face .

    wow, i am so glad i watched this. i had my right shoulder replaced in the fall of 2020. once i was out of physical therapy and able to do most things, i went to cut some fabric and to my horror, i struggled to use a rotary cutter to make some squares for patchwork pillows. i almost cried as i failed to cut the fabric. my arm strength just could not press down well enough to get a clean cut. i ended up using scissors of all things. : ) grrrr. i am going to get one of these cutters and hope it will work for me. as far as other items i would like to learn about irons and wool pad ironing mats. i need to replace my iron and need a new pressing station. the middle of my current ironing board is so warped it is almost pointless. thanks for all the info on your show.

I should have it tomorrow and so I am going to test it out before your Live tomorrow and let You know what I think. Thank You again and TY for the Sew Yeah tour, i watched it earlier but wasn't able to leave a comment as I was a bit busy then. Hey Marie - I'm hearing the ones on Amazon are pirated versions and may not be as good of quality as the actually Martelli ones. If yours doesn't seem to cut well, try changing the blade right away.

      Marie, I bought the one from Amazon, I couldn’t figure out what the hype was all about, now I know that it must be a knock off it didn’t have Martelli blade and I had to press hard to have a good cut after changing blade. By the time I saw this it was to late to return. When I took it apart like Becca showed on this video I found it didn’t have the little round slotted piece either. I hope you get a better one, I did complain to Amazon and they did say they were going to check it out.

    Thanks, I have been researching tools to up date 40 yr old sewing station. I will buy a Martelli cutter now that you have explained blade change & given recommendations. P. S. Try a Tree Cut Linear sharpener by Grace Mfg. It should lengthen your blade life. (My daughter-in-law has one & swears by it.)

    I just purchased a 28 Martelli rotary cutter, and have to say it is powerful. On the first cutting it sliced right through my Olfa mat. Now I have to buy another large size mat, and I am not sure I want to risk the Martelli cutter again on a new mat.

    • @sewbecca
      @sewbecca  2 года назад

      oh, wow!! I've not had that problem - I've used my Martelli cutter on a variety of mats - but my go-to right now is the Martelli mat. :)

    • @sewbecca
      @sewbecca  3 года назад +1

      If you work with fleece, I'd recommend the 60mm. It'll give you more room on the blade to go through fluffier fabrics - and you should be able to get through a couple of layers.

    I dispose of my rotary blades, old needles, ruined pins in an empty Pringles canister. When full, I tape the lid on and discard. Unfortunately, I no longer eat Pringles chips so will need to get the hubby to polish off a can once I need an empty one. :-)
