Rob you are awesome! I have a small fortune in all the rotary cutters! Once I try to change the blade it never never never cuts right again! Thank you so very much so informative!
RA: Thank you, thank you for a great vid. 👍 I have been waiting YEARS for a man's complete point-of-view and tech info on "everything u need to know" about rotary cutters. I get so confused with the wave washer, the which way up on the nut, etc when changing out blades. Speaking for us short term memory people.....Looking forward to a booklet or leaflet with all that u have taught and noted in this info-instructional video. Be well in the Lord❤ . gr-granny NM p/s Too bad there is not "buy back" from blade companies for old, dull, nicked blades with fabric stores being the return/recycle centers and in return the customer gets a discount/coupon for a (future) blade purchase.
I struggle with replacing the blades. I take my cutter apart, placing each piece in order on my table exactly how I take the blade apart. I seem to have blade replacement success. Your demo is EXCELLENT and you actually explain WHY it has to go back together in a particular order. Personally, your explanation makes a big difference to my Old Brain! Any suggestions on how to separate the blades out of the packaging without cutting yourself? The oil sort of holds the blades together like glue. Thank you!
OMGosh this was WONDERFUL! I can not pick one fav thing because it was all so useful. Please continue to do more. Would love one on rulers and other notions! Keep up the great motivational work!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had no idea there were so many different kinds of cutters. Now I can cut without threading to quite even time I start making a quilt.
Great info Thanks. I still sometimes get confused changing blades. I realize with the first cut usually. Just doesn't feel right. I always enjoy your videos.
Nice video. Not even 4 minutes into it and I learned all about my 60 mm cutter. It's the only one I use but it *may* be overkill 😂 for most of what I do. Thanks for the informative video
Thanks for teaching this topic. I have never been taught about the different size blades. I once threw away a cutter because I couldn't figure out how to put it back together after I changed the blade. Now I think it was because I had the washer in wrong.
Thank you for this, As I am a beginner, this type of information is priceless. You are so thorough, which I really appreciate. I would love a follow-up on using them correctly.
I love that you’re going back to basics. I’ve been selling in quilting more years than I want to remember. 😂. The products have changed the brands have changed and it’s nice to have a review or update. Thank you
Great tutorial. To dispose of my used blades is use an empty medication bottle (from the pharmacy) that has a twist top that locks. If the bottle happens to tip over the contents will not spill out. I also use this same method for my sew machine needles.
Thank you so much. I am missing the yellow disc on both my spring load olfa rotary cutters, which I have had for 15 years. I'm going to see I I can buy those. Also had my wave washers in wrong. Thank you again. ❤
Good informative, but another thing to know, is when you buy blades in multiple packs, make sure you get only one blade, more then once I have put in more then one, yes it does drive me crazy, just noticed you were saying this as I was typed
Great video. I always get xonfused when changing blades. Have to watch carefulky as i take them apart. Have found the tellow plactic ring on the wrong side.
Thank you for answering my unasked questions! Glad you pointed out that it's better to get fresh new blade rather than sharpener! :) I am religious about changing to new blade frequently even tho it could get expensive for 2 reasons. First, well worth it for accurate cuts and Second, I did the ultimate and sliced the side of my opposite hands' finger after 30 years of experience! It immediately happened after I changed to new blade- so thankful it was fast, clean cut!!! Keep up great videos!
Good morning thank you very informative. I have the shark works great. The one and only time didn't close the blade a brushed against it got lucky the blood didn't get any on the fabric.
Very informative RE; cutters but what about the actual blades? Tungsten or titanium. What's your opinion? Also, you didn't show a Martelli cutter. I just ordered one as I have arthritis. 😊
Guilty for not engaging the safety on my rotary cutter when putting it down! Time to buy one with the handle that automatically engages the blade cover.
I remember the time I replaced a blade and put two on. It took me taking the rotary cutter apart twice to figure out I put more than one blade on by accident. Never again. I have an 18mm Clover rotary cutter that when I tighten the back bolt all the way it won’t turn, but even slightly loose the bolt starts to unscrew. Any thoughts on how to fix this? (I typically use an OLFA brand one that doesn’t have this problem, but once in a while I end up having this packed into an EPP bag and don’t have a different cutter with me.)
Sorry I forgot to include that info. I have a sharps container that I use for all blades and needles, then seal it and hand it over to the pharmacy in exchange for an empty sharps container.
Very difficult to see what you were showing against that black background/cover on table. Also you flipped cutters over back and forth so many times impossible to tell which side you were actually working on. I say all this because I really wanted to learn the valuable info you were attempting to teach us. Of course it might be better if I watched on my pc screen and not the screen on my phone. 2nd time watching and still not sure where the wave bolt goes. I thank you for info on what symptoms mean when cutting. Also glad to know I will waste my money on a blade sharpner.
Two blades stuck together, blade removed and rotary cutter is working fine. Thank you!!
Rob you are awesome! I have a small fortune in all the rotary cutters! Once I try to change the blade it never never never cuts right again! Thank you so very much so informative!
Never knew why to use a different blade diameter. I’m watching the whole presentation. Thanks!

The little wing thing waving back at you...If I can find it. NOW I know what was missing and wobbling and how to put it back. Thank you.
I LOVE my Olfa ergonomic spring loaded. Folks, that red locking button is for locking it closed, not open!
Your giving us the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Oh my goodness--a Ruby Red cutter! I looked forever when they first came out and could never find one!! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks!! This was so informative. Now I need to check all my Cutters to make sure the blades are installed properly 😊
OMGosh this was WONDERFUL! I can not pick one fav thing because it was all so useful. Please continue to do more. Would love one on rulers and other notions! Keep up the great motivational work!
Now I know how to put my cutter back together correctly! Thanks!

Great info Thanks. I still sometimes get confused changing blades. I realize with the first cut usually. Just doesn't feel right. I always enjoy your videos.
Great class. I did learn several things…and I’ve been sewing for 10 years. Thanks

Thanks for the informative video
Hi Rob, this is Caps Lock JENI. LOL. So good to see you and love when you do tutorials.
Thanks for teaching this topic. I have never been taught about the different size blades. I once threw away a cutter because I couldn't figure out how to put it back together after I changed the blade. Now I think it was because I had the washer in wrong.
Nice job explaining the difference between the rotary cutters and yes I love my Quilter's Select rotary cutters!
Thanks Rob for the info
Thank you for this, As I am a beginner, this type of information is priceless. You are so thorough, which I really appreciate. I would love a follow-up on using them correctly.
Kai Rotary cutters are awesome. They open and close themselves
I love that you’re going back to basics. I’ve been selling in quilting more years than I want to remember. 😂.

Thank you for this. I have 2 blade sharpeners; they don’t get the blade as good as new
Information was great. Putting the Olfa back together properly and separating the blades safely👍🏻thanks Rob!
Thank you so much. I am missing the yellow disc on both my spring load olfa rotary cutters, which I have had for 15 years. I'm going to see I I can buy those. Also had my wave washers in wrong. Thank you again. ❤
This rotary cutter lesson was awesome.
Rob!! I just got a ‘squeeze handle’ Olfa with an Endurance blade. OMG - game changer for this gal. You da best!!❤
I didn’t know the different uses for the blade sizes, thank you for sharing your experience/knowledge on rotary cutting.
I love everything I’ve bought from Quilters Select. Thank you for this post.
I have a 45mm and a 28mm. Happy with both of them.
Great video. Love the explanation of changing blades.
Ver informative! I've done the two blades.😮
Great info! You don't always know what you don't know. Thank you!
I like the Martelli rotary cutters
Good informative, but another thing to know, is when you buy blades in multiple packs, make sure you get only one blade, more then once I have put in more then one, yes it does drive me crazy, just noticed you were saying this as I was typed

Watched this again....and replaced a long-overdue change of my rotary blade (haven't changed it since Nov. '22 - my bad!!!)
Awesome info. Do more.
Thanks for the assembly order for the blade replacement- I’m never sure if I have it out back together correctly
Ordering the new blades and rotary cutter. Thank you.
USE THE CODE 😉
I DID, AND THANK YOU.@@StitchinHeaven
Great info! How about one on proper cutting with a rotary cutter? I would appreciate it. Thanks
Great Video Rob!
Tip: When picking up the blade use a small kitchen/business magnet to protect your fingers.
Good morning thank you very informative. I have the shark works great. The one and only time didn't close the blade a brushed against it got lucky the blood didn't get any on the fabric.
Always great info! Blade change out was a great reminder 👌🏻
Thank you for giving us your time❤I Always appreciate YOU!
I must have missed the compass cutter example. I Will need to re watch. Thanks
No, you did not miss a demo with the rotary compass, I will do a video on that tool soon.
Very helpful!! Thank you!
Very informative RE; cutters but what about the actual blades? Tungsten or titanium. What's your opinion? Also, you didn't show a Martelli cutter. I just ordered one as I have arthritis. 😊
Excellent! What brand is your favorite 45 cutter from Alex? Don't think you said or I missed it.
A great video 😊Thanks!
Thank you this helps me
Guilty for not engaging the safety on my rotary cutter when putting it down! Time to buy one with the handle that automatically engages the blade cover.
Thank you. Good info. Very clear, as always!
Should the oil on new blades be wiped off before using?
Great info. Thank you
I remember the time I replaced a blade and put two on. It took me taking the rotary cutter apart twice to figure out I put more than one blade on by accident. Never again. Do you have any thoughts on the Martelli rotary cutter? I’ve seen it but not sure how much of a learning curve there would be to use it.
Martelli and True Grip both have ergonomic cutters. I love the Martelli, in particular!
How often do you change blades? Love this video!
Ergonomic or the spring loaded handles the best too
Great information
Have never seen a quick release cutter
What is your opinion of the ergonomic cutters?
Thank you I love this onfo
What about the ergonomic cutters with quick release blade..any good?
Learned 28 is for curves
Do you know if Quilter’s Select is coming out with a 28mm cutter?
Love the video
Great video!
Where/ how do you dispose of blades?
Sorry I forgot to include that info. I have a sharps container that I use for all blades and needles, then seal it and hand it over to the pharmacy in exchange for an empty sharps container.
If mine keeps getting loose in the bolt when I cut what does it mean?
Sounds like you may be missing the wave or lock washer
I think I got how to change my Olfa cutter...I struggle with the direction if the washer. Thanks Rob. No one carries your shark blades. LOL
Thank you Rob!
You are correct, I fell for the sharping tool thing, it was horrible big waste of money 😢
I prefer the one that closes when you let go. Not because of children, but so that it will
close when I drop it.
I never knew 10 layers of cotton could be cut at once.
Oh yes, I've put two blades into the cutter😅

You're not a man until you know how to use a sewing machine. 🙂
