I feel bad for that Karen’s daughter too. she was essentially a third-party that was forced in under the threat of punishment. she just want to have a good day at the park, but Karen made it about her.
I was a wedding photographer for a few years, and became very jaded about it. People seem to have forgotten why they are there, to join two people in holy matrimony. People today seem to forget that and their primary concern seems to be how big of a show or party they can make of it. It probably doesn't matter anymore, considering the percentage of divorces occurring. It is obvious that very few take their vows seriously any more.
It went from "me and my partners special day" to "my special day"
Yeah this idiocy of turning a wedding into a circus is just ridiculous. Friend of mine was a wedding photographer for nearly 15 years, a damn good one, and he told me about the behaviour of some wedding parties. Mind boggling. He finally quit after one bridezilla went to see the photo prints, and she rejected every single one of them! Over 150 prints ffs. She wanted to stage another shoot, that SHE would be directing the shoot, and that HE was to pay for it. That's when I found out he knew more insults and swearwords than I do.

Story 2: I can tell you exactly what I would do because I've done it. I used to work for a company that installed wrought iron fences, gates and gate openers. Within the first month, they stopped paying me and gave me promises to pay me fully once they had the money. Well, I swallowed those words like an idiot and kept on working for them. I put up with it for three months. The incident that broke me was when my eyes became inflamed from arc flash. The boss didn't have a welder's shield for me to use while having me hold an angle bracket level for him. I filed a workforce complaint for my unpaid wages after that. Not a month later, he called me begging I sign an affidavit that he paid me because his company was about to go under. They put a lien on his business and slapped him with a massive fine that drained their account. I said, "yeah, sure" but, dragged my feet for another two weeks before I came in to sign. Not a month later, they filed for bankruptcy. Felt pretty good about it, honestly.

Story 1: I would've called that Karen out the moment she started grumbling and causing any kind of scene. Also, i wouldve thrown mud at the liason too, they clearly could've done something to help, yet didnt.
Story 2: ALWAYS get your money/pay.... and should always avoid those that pay only via commission, they always find a way to try and screw you over.
Story 3: I dont know, but i think the "family dynamics" means that there is some serious back the scenes drama that we arent told about.... so i dont know who the jerk could be here.
The first story.
I am a childhood cancer survivor myself and have had a make-a-wish and what this Karen did is by no way ok. Hearng this story almost made me cry.
I hope everything is going well for the girl and her family.
My elementary school best friend had cancer. She mostly didn't talk about it, but I know it hurt her to know that everyone in the cafeteria was staring at her when she struggled to get off of the bench. The school was able to pay for a wheelchair she could sit in, but that made things worse. Kids at recess liked to push her around in circles and then send her flying across the blacktop, full speed. I was always there to stand up for her and we'd tell an adult. I've always had a problem controlling anger, and one day, someone took bullying her way too far. Someone decided to sneak up on her from behind and pull her wig. That's when I lost it. "ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?!" My best friend tried to get me to calm down. I ignored her. The b!+ch I was screaming at replied, "No, I'm not kidding, and maybe you'd have more friends if you weren't always standing up for baldy." That made her cry. I looked over at my sobbing friend and then back at the girl bullying her. I listen to my instincts. My instincts say, uppercut her or throw her. I did both.
So, if a Karen did that to her, you know what I'd do.

Story 3: I believe the “family dynamic” is financial. Paying for two weddings and gifts back to back - particularly for the bride’s family - could be a huge financial setback, especially in countries that still use the dowry system.
All you need to get married is a bride, groom, two witnesses and someone to officiate. People have gkne nuts, just for fun and show.
I'm pretty sure it's not money. OP says many of the family don't want the mom to even marry her other half. I honestly think that he's not well liked

Even if this girl didn't have cancer, is still an a**hole move because what kind of grown adult makes fun of a little girl's appearance like that. She did this out of spite because she didn't get her way and just spent the entire time complaining to anyone who has an ear. And when she was faced with actual consequences she ran off with her tail between her legs. I wish someone on set actually called the police, they could've just used the non-emergency line if this Karen was just harassing them.

I had a patient in the ED coding and I was opening the crash cart, a woman that had been waiting walked up and was angry because the man the team and I were trying to save arrived by ambulance before her. She kept demanding to be treated for an non life threatening condition. I explained the man was having a cardiac arrest and she would have to wait. She said she didn't care, she said "I demand to be next", "I've been waiting and I came before him". Narcissism and selfishness, lots of mentally ill people everywhere. Security took her away so I made sure she waited three or so hours longer.
As an EMT, nothing brings me more joy than to wheel someone into triage who thinks they'll get seen sooner if they go by ambulance.
Entitlement....is endemic in USA.
Story 1: The karen should never be allowed to be a mother, or even able to be in public, or vote, or be unattended in public, heck, she should be put in jail for what she did, and never should be given anything, and lose all that she owns and everything she owns, her secrets exposed, everything she said in secret exposed to those she talked about, and everyone in the world knowing what she is really like, so she should be put in jail and solitary, straight jacket, strapped to a dolly, and forced to be unable to eat anything but bland mush!
Thats why insane Asylums still should be a thing, just put them on a padded cell and throw away the key.

Story 3: I think she should ask her mom.. be blunt about it..
When her mom is actually planning on getting married, then tell her mom that she can go and get married first.
After which, telling her mom.. 4 months after your wedding, we will get married by hook or by crook.
This will at least give her time to check if her mom is just trying to copy her and all that or if her mom is really into getting married ASAP.

I did a couple of months in sales so I know how grueling it can be. I too worked commission, but was door-to-door. To put in that many hours is insane, I could only hack it for a couple of months. So yeah, they 100% deserves that pay as even I myself cannot believe how much they were able to do and I think the company thought that too.
I know A LOT of people that have been screwed over by commission, you did good.

If that were my family member trying to get a wish granted, Karen would have gotten a grand total of 1 warning before I made her swallow her own teeth
I can completely understand the family dynamic part with rifts and everything, causing some family not to want to attend OP’s wedding if her mom married first. 27 days before my wedding one of my brothers was killed. This completely changed my wedding, and not just the mood. My other brother refused to come to my wedding, which meant I had to find 2 ushers within 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding, and they had to get fitted for their tuxes. Then several members of my family that had originally sent in their RSVP ended up not being able to come. At the reception, you could see the rift in the family over my brother not coming to be there for his little sister when it is now just us. Some were on his side, and some were on my side- and I didn’t even know what exactly the entire story was. So, OP you most definitely are not wrong with wanting your mom to respect your special day!

Well, in response to the question of what we’d do if we were part of the make a wish girls family or friends….all I have to say is I’d probably have needed bail money.
In the titled story, I have to wonder why:
A. There weren't any signs up stating that this was a Make A Wish Fondation Wish production?
B. Why didn't anyone on the Make A Wish Fondation staff tell the Karen that it was a Make A Wish Fondation production?
C. Why didn't they have security? Preferably in the form of off duty law enforcement personnel?
This also reminds me of another Reddit post where the mother of a Make A Wish bullied their child into *NOT* wishing for what they wanted but what the *MOTHER* wanted.
I was wondering the same, the karen was wrong but oh boy, the staff made a terrible job in de escalating the situation, that alone had the possibility of ruining the kid's wish.

3rd story. I actually would have thought of a double wedding it’s easier to stream line the process and we could split the cost. Then again my mom is already married and is on the fence about the lgbt in general. Definitely thanking my sister for getting her there.
But maybe seeing me happy and actually smiling while dancing with my fiancé would make her realize that I’m happier. Then again she doesn’t know I’m gay.
Honestly I would grab that Karen before she had a chance to run away and specifically say
"Your not going anywhere until you apologize! What you said was uncalled for, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE SHE HAS CANCER!"
I would then continue to drag her to the girl and force the Karen to sincerely apologize followed up by completely removing the Karen and her kid from the area with the most "You try pulling this again and you will face my unbound fury" level death stare. Making it so the Karen and her kid never shows her face in front of the girl again
That story about the Karen disrupting the make-a-wish really made me sick. Ive heard hundreds of stories like this, but this was honestly the worst. What kind of demon would insult a girl DYING OF CANCER during her make-a-wish?!

The mother in the 3rd story sounds like she's fishing for attention and trying to take it from her child. Honestly, I think she isn't a jerk for wanting her mother's wedding to be 4 months difference away. It is a quiet way of saying "boundaries" and to get her own idea for a wedding. Though she should talk to her mother and at least ask why things keep coincidentally lining up. It's too coincidental to buy rings when another buys rings and virtually show the other up with more expensive things.
I'm a retired RN who specialized in pediatrics. With the rag in story 1, I would have immediately walked over to Karen with my metal cane and Scottish burr, growled at her that it was a private reserved area for an event she was not invited to join and when she refused I would have called the police then to have her removed.
This is the the exact condition where "be a bigger person" can be said. Yes, the park is public, but be a bigger person and let the sick girl enjoy her special day

The toy company I worked for had quite a few make a wish kids come through. They did a nice job with tea parties with a famous doll and gifts and a fun day. One time a girl with brain cancer came through and the assistant to big shot (who wasn't there) decided to do the tour with her. But, she sobbed uncontrollably as she followed the stroller with the girl was there to have fun and forget her disease for a bit. It was awful and inappropriate.
If I was a sibling of that girl and heard Karen saying that I would probably loose it and start roasting her
First story: The family should have seen that the liaison was fired for not doing her job and protecting the shoot!
Last story: OP needs to realize that her mother is a major bench who is playing mind games with her and working to upstage her wedding! Cut ties with her completely!

The liaison thought she was just watching they didn't fully explain to her what exactly she was doing. When the lady started showing her true colors the liaison did step in and put her in her place. So no there was no need to fire her when she did her job. You sound like a Karen.

Get married at the courthouse and have another party for friends and family. Then she won't be able to ruin your wedding because you are already married.
If I were a loved one of that girl and heard this, I’ll just say I’d probably get sent to jail and leave it at that.
Story 3 the reason that the dynamics of the family would impact her wedding is because it would mean that if the mom happened beforehand the family members who don’t want the mom to marry her new partner would most likely still be mad about it and that would make things extremely awkward and if the mom got married afterwards then there is a high chance that she would copy the entire thing and that would ruin the individuality of the op’s wedding and make the day feel far less special

If someone was married 3-4 months after your wedding it might take away those few months of your special moment and all the excitment of your wedding.

This is a bit misleading. The Karen in the first story is definitely rude, but given that this didn’t seem as if Make A Wish didn’t let people know who they were or why they were there during a pandemic when going to a park was pretty much all you could do without wearing a mask (for little kids especially), I do think they were somewhat jerks to hog the whole park for an entire day. They could have found a more remote location or done green screen or something, but it’s not the poor girl with cancer’s fault.
I had a karen encounter at Walmart where I didn't have a mask on, this lady was yelling at me to put a mask on. This was like last week so not many people are still woried about COVID its pretty much here to stay. Anyway she yelled at me to put a mask on and was yelling in my face with spit flying everywhere (yes she had her mask on her chin) anyway I let out the loudest belch I could muster and walked away. She just stood there in shock.

If i were part of that film crew in story one, i think that karen would have been in the hospital by the end of the story. I can't imagine someone being so cruel, entitled and just downright evil. I hope her daughter wisens up when she's older and leaves her mom out on the streets to rot.
