- The prospect of a Merchant Navy charging up the ECML was too good to resist, as I set out to capture 35018 British India Line hauling Railway Touring Companies 'White Rose' from Kings Cross to York.
The engines appearence on this trip acted as a positioning move for the locomotive to return to it's base at Carnforth, following its stint on The End of Southern Steam the previous weekend. BIL would take the outward journey directly up the ECML to Doncaster, before heading to York via Church Fenton. The return would follow the same route diesel hauled.
The action begins at Finsbury Park, as 47802 drags the consist to Kings Cross. With 35018 now in charge, we firstly see it passing New Zealand Bridge, Sandy, looking glorious in the sunshine. The final shot sees the Merchant charging through Grantham at her maximum permitted speed, whistling like a good'un, and thankfully passing through after a hefty rainshower. Top stuff!
Big thanks to Jack for giving me a lift to New Zealand Bridge, making the shot possible.

Brilliant shots Thomas. Shame BIL not staying for longer, she'd have been good for the "Dorset Coast Express" trips.
Oh well never mind, good while it lasted.
Thanks Callum. It was nice to have her while it lasted, personally, this trip was a highlight. Thomas
