Going from the underside is a pain, which is why typically we pull the heads, bolt the headers on with stage 8 locks, and install the head and header assembly up top with no headache. Especially when most of the time we are changing the lifters and cam so we already have the heads off. Just thought this info would help someone looking to tackle the job. But on occasion for example on shorties we install from underneath.
So I bought Long tube headers but havnt installed them yet bc no lift and no ramps. I have like some experience working on my 5.7 but not an expert. Would u recommend I go from the top as well and take the heads off? I never took the heads off but I taken the intake manifold off before.

Best way to install the headers is removing the motor mount off, get the bolts from the bottom then jack motor up and as much as u can and get the rest from the top, done it like 20 times like that,
Great video! Stay safe... 2:28 I always place the first stand under the rocker rail for safety, immediately after jacking up the vehicle. Then I place the second stand under one of the recommended support points, followed by the fist stand opposite position.
So recently did a long tube header install to my 2010. Did you notice any tight fitting spots on the drive side. Mostly where the header comes under the body. Does y’all’s meet the body with little play or did you have a good gap between the pipe and body? Mine seems to be pretty tight.
these are kooks headers, being that we live in Michigan we do not have emission testing so we can get away with any kind of exhaust set up pretty much!

Where did you guys get the cat less mids? And how easy was it to bypass the O2 sensors, or did you guys just have bungs that already worked in those pipes?
They are kooks catless mids but we actually got them from the person we bought them from, not sure where he did but I would assume directly from kooks. The pipes we got actually had bungs already put in them so we didn't have to bypass them
Did my own install, the passenger side was definatly difficult, but easy if you pull the motor mount and Jack the motor up a little on that side. If I were to do it again, I'd just pull the heads.

That's a hard no go for the California smog. You have to know a guy to pass you or it's an automatic fail. You mayyy get away with it if you have the green cats with the long tubes.
You’ll fail unless you know someone that will just pass the visual inspection. Some shops won’t even install long tubes unless you tow the car in & tow it out.
a lot of work for 10-20hp maybe if that in a 4500lb car with driver. That negligible seat to pants feeling if anything at all in gains. You gain 20hp in a 3400 its definitely noticeable.

I had my long tubes installed for $400. I believe it was a deal. Especially since Chrysler 300 exhaust sides are tight

Pro-tip you spent$1,000 on headers.. drop another $30 on new O2 Sensors and dont even screw with them

what’s the rest of the exhaust setup ? & was there any cutting or welding required ?
The rest of the exhaust is just stock but it does have cattless connection pipes. We did have to cut the exhaust to bolt up to the connection pipes

They are kooks longtubes 1-7/8th to 2.5in and with tune def some noticeable power gains!

Thanks man yeah we did, it was just that the exhaust needed to be tightened again and the headers needed to be torqued

usually you will get an engine light if your not tuned or don’t use the o2 sensors. if you use them and you get a tune, you won’t have the light

Yeah your definitely not wrong but these were put on more for exhaust purposes to make the car louder not some much for hp gains
