Great review and analysis. There was a lot of production on this, so I always recommend a concert video next. Perennial live at Wacken is the usual recommendation. It gives you a chance to see what it looks like when they perform a song similar in intensity to Pisces on stage (though every Jinjer song is quite unique, and notably Perennial is one of their many songs that throws traditional song structure completely out the window) but with plenty left to discover in other songs. Subbed. Cheers!

Haha great reaction bro. It's funny how you said that Tati has the least "femanine" harsh vocals you've ever heard. That's because Tati wanted it that way 😆😆 She's said in her interviews that when she was learning to growl, she did not want to sound like a female, she wanted to sound like a male to "shock" people. Jinjer is a phenomenal band, each member of the band is beyond talented. If you choose to react to more Jinjer, you won't be disappointed, each song is unique and different, some songs are really heavy, others are not, but each one is amazing in their own way. I'm gonna suggest reacting to a live performance, and that song is Perennial live at Wacken open Air 2019, it's actually the first video and song I heard from them by mistake actually (long story) and after that performance, I was hooked and became a huge Jinjer fan. JINJER is a progressive metal / groove metal / metalcore band from my country, to be precise - from the Donbass region (Gorlovka city) unofficially occupied by the Russian Federation.
The team has existed since 2008, since then the composition has changed a little several times. For example, vocalist Tetyana Shmaylyuk joined the group as a temporary soloist, but remained in the permanent composition.
For some time, the team did not want to leave their home, but the terror in the occupied territories forced the musicians to move to Kiev. JINJER became famous all over the world after a contract with Napalm Records. That is why JINJER is now often included in reviews and reviews so often.
I am not a fan of JINJER and for this reason I cannot tell much, however - this is a rather talented and original band.
Despite the fact that Ukraine is a very strongly musical and vocal country at all levels (even in the poorest villages, people love to sing songs), the traditions and partly the legacy of the USSR still strongly influences the production of music in the country. Only a few bands like JINJER have a completely fresh taste for music and most importantly understand the need for global music production. Among such bands that record sound quality and have the world quality of world production are Тhe HARDKISS or SEMARGL. While the former are pop and progressive rock, the latter began with black metal (Their "Credo Revolution" was quite popular at one time. It is better not to take it for a review, because you will have to put 18+ because of the lyrics :)) :
      ruclips.net/video/f8Uns8nIoxk/видео.html
...and evolved to high-quality electronic music:
      ruclips.net/video/sax-BlhYHus/видео.html
Unfortunately, there are quite a few metal bands out there that need quality production. For example, the symphonic metal band MYSTERYA. Their compositions "In My Head" and "It's real" I can recommend for my own listening:
      ruclips.net/video/EO-NWTAJ688/видео.html

I completely agree with you that there is nothing wrong with artists getting special attention because they are women, because it has usually been the opposite. Talented women artists used to be suppressed and ignored by the industry just for being female. If we now admire them for breaking through in a male-dominated industry, I am all for it. The thing is, they are not getting a free pass. Tatiana is genuinely one of the best vocalists ever, of any gender, and good for her if we love her even more because she's a woman.

    • @akaalexanderking
      @akaalexanderking  3 года назад +1

    • @Mr.Ekshin
      @Mr.Ekshin 3 года назад +1

I agree with most of that, except the part where you claim that "Talented women artists used to be suppressed and ignored by the industry just for being female." Umm.... no.
Women have always been a very significant part of the music charts, whether pop, jazz, blues, or almost any other genre you can name. The "industry" will promote ANYONE that can sell albums and put asses in seats at a concert venue. Nobody is trying to keep women out.
They HAVE been under-represented in rock/metal, but that wasn't due to some evil "industry" cabal trying to suppress them. For whatever reason, it just didn't seem to be a genre that attracted most female musicians.
It's like claiming that women are under-represented as auto mechanics. This is true, but there's no industry conspiracy trying to keep them out. It just isn't a career field that interests most women.

You expected it, and still got surprised. You asked for knowledge, so text wall incoming. :D
Bands members are Tatiana on the vocals, Roman on the guitar, Eugene on the bass and Vlad on the drums.
This song is actually a re-recording of an older song, specifically made to show off their (at the time) new drummer. The video description has some more information about the mix. The song itself is one of two personal songs about Tatiana herself, this one being about her personality, since she is a Pisces. One of the Pisces symbols are two fish swimming in opposite directions, like a yin & yang sign, so the song features a lot of duality themes and aquatic references and is overall very metaphorical. The other personal song is I Speak Astronomy, a very metaphorical love song about her search for a soul mate.
Even though this was made to show off the drummer, it ended up going viral on reaction channels. Even though Tatiana didn't really want this as a more personal song to go viral, it actually gave them the much needed exposure and reach that they deserve. Tatiana does steal the show a bit, at least on first listen, but the other band members are actually praised a lot by their fans - especially the drums and bass.
The band is from the occupied zone in eastern Ukraine, and fled their homes when the war started. They eventually found residence in Kiev, but were basically always on tour ever since, right until covid came along, just to make ends meet. Within the couple years before covid they had a couple hundred shows alone.
Pisces is a good cherry popper, but I'll drop my usual recommendations if you want to check out more, because this is far from their best song, nor the only surprise they have for you - expect the unexpected. :)

Love this band. Wasn't sure if you had already encountered them.
The song Pisces - the astrological sign - is about duality, sort of reflected in the two types of vocals, and the lyrics. The band actually wanted to use this session to highlight the skills of their new drummer, Vlad. Tatiana wasn't very fond of the song itself. But, of course, reactors immediately got shocked by the vocals. These guys are tight, really tight, with outstanding live performances, where you can then hear contributions of each member and the full force of the vocal switching. Tatiana also writes the lyrics with great care, mainly in English, a second language. They have a great catalogue. Enjoy the ride.

Another great band! Roman always has some sick looking guitars, and his skill is through the roof!
The whole band is very skilled and the drumming in this song is so good!
First time i listened to them was also this song.

    Tatiana: Hold my beer!
Looking forward to this one should be fun!

Jinjer - Pisces was the video that got me into watching reactions. I have heard so many good musicians just because of falling down the Jinjer rabbit hole. They have some other really good videos. Teacher Teacher, Perennial live at Wacken open Air 2019, Who's gonna be the one, I speak Astronomy, Judgement and Punishment... Every member of the band is a phenomenal musician. Eugene is one of the best bassists in metal, Vlad is a superb drummer, and Roman glues everything together with his guitar. Tatiana has an amazing voice, and the growl technique she uses is called "false chord".
As far as the sound of Jinger, this song is not really representative of the rest of their music. Pisces is a lot more chill. I think it got a lot of views due to the shock value of Tatiana switching between he sweet cleans and that really aggressive growl. Jinjer is really a master at mixing genres into their metal sound, you'll hear Jazz and Reggae influences, amongst others.

I would say that Jinjer started out mostly as a core/nu-metal band, with fairly formulaic verse-chorus-verse songs, but already with their second album they started to move towards a more progressive place. Pisces is from their third album, and with their EP after that and their newest album they have moved even further towards progressive metal without traditional song structures, and perhaps a more djenty sound.
This video by the way was originally made to show of their new drummer, and then went a bit viral. The band seems to be a bit on the fence about the reaction, but to me they don't need to worry, their catalogue is so full of quality that there's no risk of becoming a "joke".
Talking of Nemophila and Arch Enemy, can I recommend Galmet, another Japanese all female band, inspired by Arch Enemy (sadly no longer active as far as I know): ruclips.net/video/OCqE2F5atPE/видео.html

There's some production on both her clean vocals and growl vocals. I'm not sure if that's done in post or if someone in a booth is hitting a switch, but whatever it is, the final product is pretty crazy and addictive. I've heard other women do growl vocals before, namely Angela Gossow and Alissa White-Gluz, and while I'm not the biggest fan of growl vocals in general as they often sound the same to me, there's something about Tatiana that's different and never gets old. She's a charismatic, magnetic performer on stage, too. The musicianship of the three instrumentalists is high but easy to overlook, at least for me, because I find myself listening to and watching Tatiana so much.
As far as recommendations go, I'm sure others have recommended "Teacher, Teacher," the live version of "Perennial," and "Judgement (& Punishment)" as they're the standard recommendations, but I'm going to go with a live version of "I Speak Astronomy." There's an official video for it that's pretty cool, but I tend to enjoy live versions a bit more.
    ruclips.net/video/0Shp1vmiuQc/видео.html
I'm going to take this moment to recommend a different band as well. The Hu is a band of Mongolian men that kind of defy genre labels, but I guess you could call their originals hard rock or some sort of metal. They play traditional Mongolian instruments backed by drums. Their sound is unlike anything I've heard. "Wolf Totem" is a popular song to react to, but I prefer "Yuve Yuve Yu" as it's catchy with a melody that'll get in your head and stay there.

Was a nice surprise to see Jinjer so soon. However this song isn't a good example of their catalogue. It's more of a one off. Like I mentioned in my comment on the Nemo video some other songs that fit with their overall sound would be "Teacher Teacher"(mv), "Perrenial" (Live @wacken 2019), "I Speak Astronomy" (MV), and for stuff that's more aggressive/harsher sounding you can go with "Sit,Stay,Rollover" (MV),"Who is gonna be the one" (live), and then to see how deep she can go you have songs like "HomeBack"(mv),"Pit of Consciousness" (Live in Kiev). But overall they are a very hard working band. With a very hectic tour schedule. (pre-Covid) and I hope we get to see them again soon.

One of the main thing I love about Jinjer, is that even though they are all enormously skilled virtuoso musicians, there is no ego there. They are always a band playing together and building each other up. No runaway crazy solos. They shine as a group.

Welcome to Jinjer, where all the rules are thrown out the window. The only member of the band that is actually trained in music is Vlad (drummer), and that’s in piano not drums. He also plays guitar and I think other instruments... the rest are pretty much self taught, including Tatiana who taught herself how to scream/growl without hurting her voice by yelling at cars and screaming into her pillow. 😁. There really isn’t a bad Jinjer song, so depending on what you like to listen to, you’ll find something to like. “Teacher Teacher”; “Who’s Gonna Be The One”; “The Prophecy”; “ Judgement and Punishment” - both the one take vocals and the official; “Perennial-live at Wacken”; and “Sit, Stay, Roll Over” will give you a small taste of their range. “Home Back” is their latest release, with another new track coming out soon. I absolutely love this song and “Retrospection”.

Tatiana - Vocals, Roman - Guitar, Eugene - Bass, & Vlad - Drums. They mix many genres of music together such as jazz, reggae, metal, and more. All from war torn Ukraine. Band started in 2009 with 3 guys ( Maksym Fatullaiev vocal, Dmitriy Oksen guitar, and Vyacheslav Okhrimenko drums) of which, today, none remain. The only one who remained with the band after 2009 was Dmitriy, who was the creator of Jinjer. He left the band in 2015. However, in 2010 Maksym left and Tatiana replaced him and they added Roman to the band. A year later Eugene was added. Since 2009, Jinjer has had 5 drumers come ango with Vlad entering in 2016 and is their present and most technical drummer. All members left their home towns in Donetsk, Ukraine to avoid the war. Today, I believe they reside in the safe city of Kiev, Ukraine. This should get you up to speed.
