    I lived in Hawaii during my high school years as did my father as we were both military brats whose fathers were stationed in Hawaii during our high school years. Extra benefits for being military brats. Wonderful place and wonderful people.

    I hadn't thought of hearing 🤔 about Magnum PI not having Hawaiians on the show. I think he's amusing.

    • @mrdonetx
      @mrdonetx 2 года назад +1

      They addressed the lack of Hawaiians on the show. The show for the most part did not have a large budget for the time, a very large amount of it was spent paying locals (Hawaiians) working as film crew and what not. They saved money by not having a ton of regular appearing actors. Most of the new characters were the "bad guy" and they didn't want a stereo type to be portrayed by Hawaiians playing the bad guys. Tom Selleck has told stories about many actors cast but ended up dropping out because the pay was crap and just flying them to and from the mainland eat up more money the first two seasons than his entire salary. You would think as the show got more popular the budget would increase but evidently that wasn't the norm back then.

    Hawaiian pizza is Canadian. My Grandfather never liked SPAM as he had too much in WWII. He was in Europe but two of Grandma's brothers were in Dec 7th. Her dad was at Schofield around 1915. The Hawaiian streets with nomn-Hawaiian named are old ones, before 1959.

    • @SirReptitious

      Yep. Everyone I have told that Hawaiian pizza was actually invented in Canada was very surprised. But the most important part of Hawaiian pizza is that it is a crime against cuisine. I'm not a big fan of spam, and have never had it on pizza. But I am 100% sure it tastes better on pizza than pineapple.

      @@JaneDoe-ci3gj I heard that it was not served because Grandpa and WWII. I went to Hawaii and tried it, and it was sorta OK. I briefly tried Vienna Sausages and was Not Impressed. Pacific Islanders and adjacent Asians go for tinned meat in a big way. The only Good Thing from Western sailors? For sausage I am spoiled by Italian sausage-thick & flavorful. Fine grained & bland don't do it.

    Hawaiian pizza is common here in Sweden and my favorite, a part from that one time in Rome Italy where I had the best pizza of my life!
    Sad that they had no Hawaiian actors in pearl harbour!
    I get confused when Americans call the pastry Danish. Here in Sweden we call it Wienerbröd translates to bread from Vienna since it is of vionesserie tradition.
    The concept was brought to Denmark by Austrian bakers, where the recipe was partly changed and accommodated by the Danes to their liking!

      from Haleakala Observatory, Kula, HI 96790, United States
      to Kahului, Hawaii, USA
      1 hr 14 min (38.7 miles)
      FYI - Kahului is where you ride back to. The observatory is right at the parking lot where they haul the bikes up to drop them off.
