Wow, I think I found what I was needing. I just started this (hobby) two days ago. You, by far have shown (in speed view, without all the blah, blah, blah, the way it should be done ) me a very detailed way to make a layout. I hope to make mine on a 4 x 8, but I think your way is great. I've been binge-watching these videos for 2 days now. Glad I found yours!
It's so small you almost can put it in a suitcase and take it with you on your hollidays, LOL. Great result by the way. Greetings from the Netherlands.
What a nice little layout! Perfect for someone who would want to live in a apartment and still have a layout to run. :) What a great layout! So much detail in such a tiny space! :)
absolutely beautiful! I want to get into building an N scale layout... but am so overwhelmed with the foam, adhesives, etc. Im excited, and this video is inspirational!
I am in the same boat as you. What I did is made a little diorama 14" x 24" in H.O. Just to see how it works. I am very happy with results. I will now do n scale mini layout 2 x 3. P.S. watch Luke Towan on RUclips. I learned a lot from him.
This is my favorite of your mini layouts, what a gem! I watched the entire playlist since I'm designing and getting ready to build a small shelf layout. I love the elevation changes in your road and scenery since it reminds me of the area I live in. Nice job!
A Five Star project Steve. I watched your progress as you were building this and hope to use some of your ideas. Your talk of the street lights did make me check out and purchase the same type. Also enjoyed the extra "little hands" that helped you sand on the road. Again, thanks for sharing and well done Steve, the best to you and your family.
One of these on top of a p[lanted fish tank with real water coming off a waterfall to a river draining back into the tank would be such a cool cross niche idea. Thanks for the inspiration and idea.. I knew about n gauge but it's been so long I forgot how tiny they are.
Excellent work. I'm about to build my first layout on a baseboard the same size. This layout has given me a lot of ideas especially the top section. Thanks.
Haha, I remember helping my dad on projects from cars to trains and everything in between when I was young... Oh you wanna help? here sand this. lol!!!! love the layout, gonna make a 2x3 layout here soon! this ones tempting!! Cheers!
Having only been introduced to unitrack a couple of years ago it's now becoming more of a regular feature of most of my layout builds. Mainly because I have seen how good it can be made to look by watching your videos. Taken quite a bit of inspiration from this project mate and have now started working on my own version but based in the UK (around Derbyshire).
Hey dude i seen u at the OKC train show a few years back . Seeing it in person does way more justice .. so much way cool stuff packed in such a small place . . Never forgot it . .
You can find the track plan on the layouts tab of the website (look for this layout) at steves-trains.com As far as time, hard to say since it was mostly 30 minutes here and there over the course of a year or so. Maybe 40-50 hours total? Hard to remember.
Steves Trains That’s great I use them for shrinktubeing my rc car lights and I also collect zippoes you can go on the zippo website and costomize your own lighter plus the have rechargeable hand warmers
I really like the layout because of its compactness. My wife wants to build it and picked up the track planning program you spoke about. She got the parts but can't get the base track finished as she always has two tracks left over in the plan and no place they fit. Can you help with the layout number and where they go? She's excited to do this as her first project.
I had previously watched through the videos for this project, limiting myself to one video per day (no matter how short they were). It was a great watching experience. Revisiting the project in this video I am, once again, staggered at the amount of planning involved and how well it all came together. Please can you satisfy a point of curiosity? Can you tell us what your day job is? I am guessing that you must be an engineer of some kind.
Rodney Lane I’m actually a meteorologist, but pretty similar schooling as it was six years of physics and calculus. Many of the classes were half engineers since it is all fluid mechanics and the same equations. I primarily work with the energy industry in trying to help predict demand for electricity and natural gas based on weather, as well as forecast power generation from wind farms based on expected wind speeds in the coming days so utilities know how much power to generate from other sources to keep the grid balanced. I work a lot of long hours and this year I’ve been doing a lot of projects around the house so time to work on these layout projects has been limited. So...progress has been slow and the time between new videos pretty long.
I love this layout, so much packed into such a small area without looking silly. The way you have created dense foliage with the large number of trees looks impressive. Just wondering what radius curves were you using? Edit after seeing part 1, answer R150 & R216. Have you considered doing a layout with ultra compact N scale tracks and train like a Kato pocket line or the cute little Bandai B trains?
This layout used mainly 8.5 and 9 3/4” radius curves (or thereabouts). I’ve done a micro layout before with 6” radius curves and plan to do another one of those this year and hopefully a couple other little layouts.
I am just now finding these older video's and WOW, you are not just a "builder", but a true artist.
I’ll soon be traveling extensively in a 36’ motorhome and have been agonizing about leaving my trains behind but not any more! Thank you for this!
I prefer my layouts a bit larger, but this is a Beautiful little layout and well crafted or rather a fine piece of artwork really honestly WELL DONE!!
Broooooo!!!!! That controller...is Noone going to talk about those controls...your epic...
I am super impressed with how you made Unitrack look like it was not Unitrack with the extra ballast, paint, washes, and details. It looks fantastic!
Thanks!
Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos. Thanks
I'm truck driver and this is for me so amazing, super🤗

Why would anyone ever dislike this video? Great work very inspiring.
Big isn't always better. This layout is truly inspiring. Thanks.
What an incredible layout on such a small footprint!

A real Jewel of a layout. Your creativity & skills are amazing. Thank You for sharing.
Beautiful! Unitrack is THE way to go. A layout doesn't have to be large to be interesting. It's all in the details.
Thanks!
I've gone to Unitrack. it's realistic enuf for me
What a nice little layout! Perfect for someone who would want to live in a apartment and still have a layout to run. :)
What a great layout! So much detail in such a tiny space! :)
Very nice layout! Most likely the size that I’ll have room for.
N scale mini layout 2×3 ft , Kato tracks.
Good job my friend.

I just love the work you do Steve in building these small layouts. They are just amazing. Great job.
That looks just like my dream layout!
You're such a talented guy and you definitely don't leave anything out when you do these layouts.
Thanks!
I didn't see it at first, but finished - the brilliance is showing. Very nice.
Thanks for sharing...

The model is magnificent.
This may just be what I need to get started on my first layout.
Man, you texture technique is outstanding! Blending skills great to.
You made ballasting look very easy.Thanks.
Nicely done....like seeing the little pair of hand helping too
I always start off with 4 x 2 feet and I always end up with 6-7 x 3 - Not that I am complaining - Nice work, well impressed
An absolutely fabulous layout, as are all of your layouts. Another masterpiece Steve. Well done and thanks for sharing.
Amazing layout in such a small space! I loved watching the construction. The little control box is awesome!

This is truly a masterpiece!
Wow what a beautiful layout!
Excellent work. I'm about to build my first layout on a baseboard the same size. This layout has given me a lot of ideas especially the top section. Thanks.
Awesome!!!!!😄😄😄 What great attention paid to detail!!!
You sure packed a lot of railroad in that little space! Beautiful modeling too by the way. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! It was certainly a fun project.
Very nice small setup. Great job! I'd say 20 people are extremely jealous.
Inspiring! The light rail is awesome particularly
Wow that turned out awesome! Beautiful job on the scenery
Unitrack never looked so good!!! ;-)

How on earth did you learn how to do all this?
Incredible
Hey dude i seen u at the OKC train show a few years back . Seeing it in person does way more justice .. so much way cool stuff packed in such a small place . . Never forgot it . .
Nice video and great littel railroad you have here!
Ok you are a genius and an artist!
I feel the same when I watch Bob Ross paint a scene. Yes it looks easy but you have to be an artist to make it look that good.
I learned a lot from Bob Ross growing up. Watched a ton of his shows.
Excellent job! Very nice layout.
Terrific layout in such a small size@!
Thanks!
Wow. I like this layout
Gotta love D.P.M. model kits:)

Very nice layout, good detail. Gives me some ideas for my layout. Thanks for sharing the video.👍
Well done! Work of art!
Wish I had a fraction of your skills... and patience...
I would've stayed with the shorter cars and a simple 44 tonner switcher but this is a nice layout!
Nice Work! Very Labor extensive!
Outstanding ! Thanks…..
Mind Blowing good details are awsome.
Beautiful work!
Awesome little layout I love it !!!
Beautiful
Shows the fun you can have in this hobby and you are truly skilled . May I ask how many hours you spent on this and where is the track plan?
You can find the track plan on the layouts tab of the website (look for this layout) at steves-trains.com As far as time, hard to say since it was mostly 30 minutes here and there over the course of a year or so. Maybe 40-50 hours total? Hard to remember.
Very, very nice; evocative.
Great to see the "instant" progress on a layout! If only things could be fasterer ;)
Great job.
Fantastic layout !
Thanks!
Tip for the future get a small lighter or a zippo it will make shrink tubes easier to use
Goodness, I seriously never thought of a using a lighter. Crazy. Thanks! It can serve double duty for camping.
Steves Trains That’s great I use them for shrinktubeing my rc car lights and I also collect zippoes you can go on the zippo website and costomize your own lighter plus the have rechargeable hand warmers
Cool, will check that out.

Our weather company even did forecasting for the Thailand cave rescue efforts which was pretty cool.
That goes a long way to explaining how you plan and execute projects like the ones you have undertaken. Thanks for your reply.
wow wish I could do this! great vid
Thanks! Of course I had built a lot of layouts before this one. Every one gets a little better. well not always, but in general.
Excellent video and really really well made layout! Bravo!
I love this layout, so much packed into such a small area without looking silly.
