Usually when cranking is short and not long enough to start, it can be a problem from the starter(the big solenoid).But do you have active faults? Engine warning?

I've had this on a eurocargo.. headlight not working.. was in the harness.. mud inside the loom !
Yes,thats a problem.Mud also retains moisture and corrodes the wires faster.
