I did an incredibly stupid thing. I did a wedding cake last year and made a couple sugar cookies for cake details. As a result I was asked to make wedding favors cookies for this little girl's wedding from church... I naively thought the work load would be similar to a wedding cake... i told her it would be my wedding gift to her. So stupid... amd now I'm making 200 4" cookies with succulent decorations amd a monogram... ummmmm... never again!! So much goes into this! I have sooo much respect for cookie decorators!
Oh bless you! That does sound like a ton of work and certainly a learning experience! I’ve been in similar situations where “just a few cookies” became a weeks worth of work. Hang in there!
But look on the POSITIVE side of this... That is Good Business sense... That person will tell so many people... that you can get your money back in no time... I am assuming you are in business... needless to say... do not do any for FREE again. That was very kind of you... and KARMA will reward you too. You are not STUPID... you're giving... Thank you for clearly explaining about what goes into pricing in the cookie world. I'm considering getting into the business and am currently in the researching phase. This video and a few others of yours I've watched, have been very helpful.
@@SarahGraceCookieCo My biggest challenge is packaging and shipping. I didn’t think it would be so hard to find the right box size (in gold). Then there’s the whole box within a box thing. I will be doing a trial shipping this week.
Thank you so much for this video! You’ve answered so many questions. After this video, I’m confident now about quoting prices to my potential customers. I don’t feel bad now about asking for what I actually should be charging.
Hi Roxanne! I think my message got lost in translation. I don't mean that customers should be charged a set amount for each hour spend on cookies, that would certainly make for an expensive batch! I simply mean that ingredients may be the only monetary cost involved in cookie making, but that the time we invest is a valuable asset as well, which should be considered when pricing. I personally struggled to build my business when charging only slightly above ingredient costs because my time was tied up creating beautiful cookies, but the profit didn't reflect the labor I was putting in, so there was no way to take on more orders without losing a lot of sleep. I hope this explanation clarifies my intention :)
I love your videos. Very helpful and you are pleasant to listen to. Thank you! One question... I may have missed it... But what average size of cookies are you using for these suggestions?
God bless you! Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge and encouraging us not to cheat ourselves. This is great & you have definitely gained a follower. I look forward to one of your classes in the near future ❤... and tasting a cookie if you can mail them to Canada hahaha
People in my area won't pay over $1.00 a cookie. Some even expect 2 for $1.00. I bought everything to start my business and now I'm thinking about returning everything. I'm so frustrated.
I live in a small town in ky. The people here won't even pay 28.00 a dozen. Not sure what to do. The cost for them is higher than ever yo make giving my time for free
Do you take orders of maybe 6 cookies? Or it has to be 12 to be worth the time? For ex. 6 cookies or 6 cupcakes or 6 cake pops, in my case... from people that don't want a lot, just some for themselves. Or do i just keep it at 12.

I do cookies and I stand firm on someone shouldn't pay for time as people can be slow and that shouldn't be taken out on the customer.

I think that’s up to personal preference, but I liked to start at a dozen just because it made pricing easier for me 🥰
I couldn't get the free pricing chart. There was no where to put my email address.
Hi Sarah , is the guide still available?
It sure is! Here is the link🥰. www.sarahgracecookieco.com/pricingguide
