How I Price My Cookies & How Long an Order Takes

- How much do I charge for cookies? How long does 1 cookie take to decorate from start to finish? What about a set, how long does it take all together? Is it possible to make a profit? See below some of my thoughts on pricing cookies (after the links).

Follow me from start to finish on a special cookie order I did recently. Although I don't sell cookies anymore (just make them for very close family & friends), I talk about pricing and how much I'd make if I would price them the same as when I started out.
It always depends on your area and in general how expensive you are. Where I live has gotten quite expensive so make sure your prices reflect that. When you first start out, of course you will start a bit cheaper, but make sure you are not selling yourself short and giving away your cookies for free.
Make sure to factor in things like details, colours, how big the cookies are, if you will be bagging them, adding metallics etc. All these things affect the price as it takes extra time and effort or special materials and should be reflected in the price,.
When I first started, I Charged between $2.50 & $3 for my very first paid order. The next order I said I would make my base price $3. That lasted a few months as I realized how much work goes into making cookies and how much I spent on supplies, tools and packaging. Then I said I won't go less than $4 a cookie and that would be for a simpler cookie, details, metallics & bags/bows would all be extra.
For this set I would have charged $6-$7 dollars per cookie. $6 for just the cookie and $7 would be with packaging them and the ribbon.
There is no right or wrong, but if you want to make it a profitable business, you have to find the right clientele who will pay premium prices for premium cookies. I'd rather make 100 cookies at $6 a cookie than do 200 cookies at $3. So if you lose some clients that don't want to pay your prices, it's ok. Work smarter not harder!

I took a beginner level icing class at Biscuiteers when I was in London, and it was awesome. Everything was set up and ready to go when everyone got there….came home and tried to recreate that experience for my DILs. Tried. Holy cow, having never done something like this I had NO idea how much work goes into setting up, prep, baking, cooling/drying, decorating, packaging….never mind the years of skill and training that went into each little work of art. It really was eye opening and I have an even higher level of admiration and respect for the artists that do this…and for their prices. They definitely deserve to be paid properly for their art/product.
I had the same thing happen to me when I first started! I watched tons of videos of decorating but had no idea how long the process took from start to finish and was shocked when I went to do my first set!! Pricing them is hard because if you would buy 1 or 2 cookies, I don't think people would question a $5 dollar cookie, but when you go to buy a few dozen and you're paying a couple hundred dollars then people think it's expensive. But they are worth it, there's so much that goes into them, that's for sure!!
I didn’t go to a class, but I did watch plenty videos. The Little Cookie company was the easiest to follow and it taught me a lot! But Lord, when I did my first practice and the my first order🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️. Like you guys said, the time and the set up. I have learned to pace myself and get things ready at different phases. Even though I have watched many ways to decorate them, I stay in the realm of keeping them simple. I have learned the hard way not to overwhelm myself with the cookies that require more work and time. Maybe one day…..but right now I just don’t have that much with my full time job and all. But I want so bad to be able to write on cookies. 😊
It's so hard to juggle work and cookies, so I feel you!! And if you want to write on cookies, I have a really detailed tutorial that I'm sure will help here ruclips.net/video/gfmuTpXJx-I/видео.html
I honestly don’t know how you have time to do everything you’re doing.
So you have a day job, run a cookie business, run a RUclips channel where you’re constantly interacting with your viewers AND you’re raising a family?
Just amazing you are! Thank you so much. I can’t tell you how much you’ve helped me ❤
Awww, you're so sweet, thank you 🥰 I always feel the need to answer questions, I just feel so bad if I don't! It's not easy some days. Every so often, I go quiet on social media and usually it's when I'm burnt out. My house is almost always a mess and I look like I just rolled out of bed most of the time 🤣 but my kids are my motivation. I try to be there for them but also need to provide for them, so its hard to balance. But my oldest thinks it's pretty awesome that his mom's a youtuber 😁 so I guess that's worth it!
@@LittleCookieCo haha right? You’re kinda a big deal! Love it so much ☺️
Thanks again for everything! ❤️
🤣🤣 thanks!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
@@LittleCookieCoI was a teacher and owned a cookie business along with having a family- I finally unfortunately burnt out and my body became ill - I still haven’t recovered so be really careful and listen to yourself- I thought I could do it all because that’s the type of person I always was and it finally caught up with me - just throwing it out there- just take some time here and there for yourself to rest.
Thank you so much for that! It is a lot of pressure to do it all sometimes, and I do get worried that all of the late nights and stress will catch up with me one day. So I will definitely keep that in mind and try to take better care of myself ❤️
There’s so much work put into a set of cookies. No one knows how much unless they watch you through out the whole process from start to finish! ❤
So true!!

Wow, great video! I wish I woulda seen it earlier. About 25 years ago I was going to sell biscotti to coffee shops, and after doing the math and a business plan I realized that I would be making about $4.00 an hour, not including drive time, fuel, and mileage. So my dream was squashed and I got another job. Now I'm retired and I'm gonna sell cookies from time to time at craft show type stuff, but it will all balance out to barely making a profit, while still having fun doing what I love to do, which is making (or maybe just eating) cookies and chocolate truffles. I wish you and your viewers great success and good fortune in your endeavors! I am shaped like a Buddha, so I rubbed my tummy for you all!
Haha you are so sweet!!! Thank you!! Baking is definitely a tough business to be in, there is room to make a good profit, but I feel you have to really put in some time and build your customer base (but I suppose just like anything else). But it makes a great hobby, and people love having custom home made things given or gifted to them or even buy them for special occasions, cause you can't get these everywhere!
I love this! Thank you for the breakdown! Your work is incredible!
You do your cookies the way I do cakes: splitting steps to separate days. I bake cakes & prep buttercream one day, stack and crumb coat the next, decorate the third day. I cannot imagine the stress it would cause me to take 45 minutes of adjusting the consistency, though! Wow!
I find its much easier to split them into days, then my whole day isn't just making cookies from morning to night (although I've done that before 🙈). And yes, consistency is super time-consuming. A little water goes a long way, so it's adding a few drops at a time and mixing and checking every time until you get it close to perfect, and before you know it, it's taken 45 minutes 😄
Thanks! Wonderful video! You are not only a cook, but also a wonderful creative person, a good artist and I really like it. I love cookies and all kinds of pastries.
Thanks for the detailed timing of everything. Wow that was a lot of work!! Beautiful cookies.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
Wow, I learned so much.. you made this look so simple.. I am almost afraid to get started. But I will..
Thank you for sharing all your tips and Instructions
Blessings.
Gorgeous cookies and packaging! Your are such an example and a joy to watch, thank you!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you!! What a great video! So much content. I’m sure I’ve said this before you are one of my faves. Love the cookies. 😊
Aww thank you so much 🥰🥰 it means sooo much to me!!!
Beautiful work. Thank you!
Thank you ❤️
You are an amazing teacher. I have watched many tutorials and you the best I have ever seen. Thank you so much❤
Wow, thank you so much 🥰🥰 that makes me so happy ❤️❤️
Great video! As others have mentioned in the comments, i don't think people who have never done cookies, cakes, etc, understand just how much work goes into them. There is so much detail and skill, and you should definitely be compensated for it. Those cookies are so pretty🙃
Thank you!! And even I didn't know at first I think my first few sets took me 40 hours 🤣 I was still learning and going so slow and everyone thought I was crazy for doing it cause it takes so much time. I've shaved a few hours off with experience but it is still very time consuming!
People think they just make themselves wave a magic wand and it's there 😂
If only it was like that 🤣
I KNOW RIGHT! Like these are ARTISANAL, Hand crafted, from scratch, baked goods with tender loving care. I've made cake pops....boy that was a ton of work. I got put on the spot by someone having a shower. I said sure ..instantly regretting. Then she said she wanted 100....in 3 different flavors. I was like girl.....that's your gift then because it's pricey with time and effort, decorating and packaging and a ton of work. I literally thought ok it's gonna be 1 flavor and like 50 max. Uhhh no this person had zero clue how much work it was and took advantage instead of being mindful that they were putting me out and adding more to the equation with the different flavors and quantity. They knew they were getting a steal. I did it out of love and kindness but nope never again. My sister had to help me she was like you're crazy for agreeing to this I told her I was put on the spot but this would be the first, last and only time I do this much baking work without proper compensation. Honey my legs, my back ...they regretted it too lol.
Omg I've been there too!! You quickly learn how much effort it takes and next time someone asks you know to ask how many and what they want 🤣 although I've totally gotten suckered into orders because I just couldn't say no! Then I tell myself never again 🙈 I truly appreciate all the amazing bakers there are, some are seriously artists and put so much time and effort, I could never!!
This is such a great video. I truly appreciate your talent & how much effort you put into all the details. I used to decorate cookies & cakes until my carpel tunnel stopped my decorating days. I still enjoy watching though. Beautiful work!
Thank you so much! And that must be hard not to be able to bake or decorate anymore. It does get tough on the hands, that's for sure! Especially when you have lots of details to do!
I just want to say thank you for all your tutorials and the time you take to answer questions. I’m doing really well and have even gotten a few orders!!!
I’ve still got lots to learn but I’ve gotten the actual cookie and icing consistency down and I feel like that’s half the battle! Really appreciate you my 🍁 friend! ☺️🤗
Yay!!! That's amazing that you've gotten a few orders, congrats!! It's always so nerve wracking in the beginning when you start actually selling them, but it's so exciting too 🥰 the consistencies are the hardest part, so you're well on your way! I feel like when you start taking orders you start getting pushed out of your comfort zone and you learn a lot! Thank you for your support and best of luck on your orders 🍁❤️
@@LittleCookieCoyes definitely being pushed lol. And I’m trying to resist saying “no I can’t do that” even though I know it’s gonna make my head hurt lol.
Anytime I need to know how to do something I search your channel and inevitably there’s always an answer. What’s funny is there are so many channels charging for what you’re doing for free and even so there’s just something about your style that helps me learn. But if you ever did start charging for things I would totally support you! 😆❤️
I used to accept orders without knowing the theme and then they would say the theme and I'm like 😲 in my head thinking i can't do that. But I didn't have the heart to say no, I can't do it, after accepting the order. But I alwyad found a way to get it done. And if people are asking you it's because they've seen your work and know you can do it and want your cookies!! So don't forget that. It's definitely hard, there may be tears at times haha but you'll learn sooo much and every time will be that much easier! And I'm so glad you said that because I want my channel to be exactly that. Whatever question someone might have, I'll have an answer for them. I used to have so many questions, too, and had to search all over and couldn't find answers sometimes. And I never want to charge people, I want to make sure anyone can get the information! It's an expensive hobby anyway, so at least if the learning is free, it's one less thing for someone to worry about! ❤️
I truly appreciate your videos!! I wanted to learn so I could make cookies for my niece's birthday in a few months. Yesterday I made royal icing cookies for the 1st time ever. Jumped right in & made a set with 5 colors 😅 I was SO apprehensive. Your video "How to Make The BEST ROYAL ICING" helped me to take the leap and my cookies actually turned out really great. Your videos take a LOT of the guess work out. Thought I'd never say it but....Can't wait to get back in the kitchen again today 😂 Thank you!!!
Yay!!! That's exactly why I make these videos, so thank you for saying that!! I had so many questions when I first started and didn't know where to find answers so I want my videos to make it easier for anyone who wants to make them. Your niece is gonna think your the coolest aunt ever!
Your video is sooooooo relaxing ❤ I watched it to learn about stuff and got carried away watching you work and totally forgotten my purpose 😂😂❤
Beautiful cookies and GREAT video. Thank you!
Thank you so much 🥰🥰
This is so perfect!!! Grt job,you are so awesome.
Aww thanks 🥰☺️
Thank you for this explainer. :) I decorated two dozen cookies with 5 different designs for 1-year-olds twins' birthday party and was shocked how long it took. This is definitely eye opening! :)
Wow! That is a lot of work to do that many designs! Until you make them, you don't know how much work they are. But it's a great feeling once you've completed a set!
Bravo c'est de l'excellent travail, je suis admirative ❤ merci pour le partage
Love your videos!!! Thank you very informative.
Thanks!!!
Know your worth... it's true in life as well as in pricing cookies. Your videos are always great, thank you!
So true!! And thank you!!
Thank you for making cookie decoration so easy and accessible for those of us who are learning from scratch. Lots of love and a Happy Christmas from India
Thank you so much!!! Glad you enjoy them ❤️ and amazing you are watching from India 🥰 Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Thank you for all that you share! Such a great breakdown of where all that time goes! And you didn’t even include doing all the dishes!
Yes, cleanup, and researching designs for the set and shopping/buying ingredients! So much goes on behind the scene as well!
Great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you so much ❤️🥰
This was so interesting! I learned alot about the process. Mostly to leave plenty of time and spread the work out over several days for the best result!
Yes!! Always leave some extra time just in case. And if you're planning on making a lot, I'd definitely bake and freeze ahead of time. Or bake and decorate in batches and freeze!
@@LittleCookieCo Cookie tables are a big feature at weddings in SW Pennsylvania, so lots of baking ahead and freezing for sure!
Well done, you inspire with your videos
Great video with awesome tips! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much!
🇦🇺 I love your step by step explanations. You are so talented. How good of you to find time to reply to the comments that people leave. I really ejoyed watching this.
Love your videos! Thank you ❤
Thank you 🥰❤️
Beautiful cookies. ❤
Amazing video and very inspirational! I’ve always been passionate about baking cookies and developing a business but my fear is that people don’t pay the cost per cookie after so much investment. This was just inspirational to see!
Great video and explanation Stephanie! It always frustrates me when customers think I charge too much for my cookies, yet they don't understand the process and length of time it takes me to make them.
Yess same with cakes! Or when they ask why it’s so expensive if it’s so simple?
Like if it’s so simple, then why don’t you make it? 😂
A lot of people don't understand just how much time and effort goes into it. There's also getting the ingredients, the packaging products, and if they don't have specific designs, you have to research/draft up ideas. Definitely a lot of work, but the important thing is to find customers who do appreciate and will pay. And they are out there!!
Exactly!!! So true 😆
Exactly! My sister thought I did all that work in one day. I invited her to come while I decorated…..she realized just how much work this entails.
Absolutely'! I don't run a cookie business but just started this as a hobby a couple years ago. Once I started decorating I was shocked at how much people are UNDERCHARGING for decorated cookies. The time involved the go through all the steps can be absolutely insane if you actually want to turn out evenly baked and beautifully decorated cookies. I think people shouldn't charged less than $80 a dozen. Minimum! Maybe that sounds like alot but I think too many cookiers are underpaid for their time and skills. Again I'm just a cookie hobbyist but that is my humble opinion! 😌🫶🏽
Very delicious cookies, yummy yummy. thank you for the recipe
Thank you 🥰
Love this video. Very informative. May I ask where I can find dehydrator trays? Thanking you in advance.
Great video and thank you for the help! I am currently in the process of jump starting my cookie/cake business. How far in advance do you recommend making the cookies and how long will the cookies stay fresh if you put them in an airtight container, right after baking and cooling? Just from your personal experience?
Great video. Glad to hear couple hours spent on colouring, I always feel like I am that slow 😅
Thank you!! I always think it won't take long but it really takes forever 🤣🤣
Wonderful video! I enjoyed all the videos you put out for the holidays. Thank you!
In the end, especially after 20 hours labor, ingredients plus materials, what would have been the fair price for someone to pay? I've come across home bakers charging $4.00 a cookie but they didnt use the projector. Would $7.00 be a closer mark? Would it be or shouldnt it more? ❤
Help! 😊
Thank you ❤❤
🥰🥰
Love your videos! Can you post what kind of edible paint you use-it was so pretty!
Thank you so much!! This was a bit of a mixture as they wanted a champagne coloue which I didn't have. So I mixed the gold and silver metallics I had on hand. The gold was sunflower sugar art and the silver was rollkem..I've had these for quite a while now and there are othr brands that are amazing as well now too like TMP as well. I may buy a bunch and do some tests and make a video!
You’re the best! Thank you so much for sharing! Have you stored decorated cookies in the freezer? If so, how is it? I’ve never tried and scared to do it. 😢
Thank you!! 🥰 and yes, I've stored them so many times! Don't be scared! I've done it in Tupperware and in ziploc freezer bags. The only thing you have to remember is not to open the container or the bag until they're fully defrosted, so take them out and let them sit on your counter for a few hours at least or overnight the night before! They taste just as good if not better after frozen!
@@LittleCookieCo Thank you for your comment! I’ll try this time.
🥰🥰🥰
Wow! I never dreamed they were that much work! You do absolutely beautiful work, I am amazed. I think $5.00 a cookie is more than fair. Great video thank you for sharing!! God Bless!
Thank you so much 🥰🥰 I also had no idea how much work they were until I started making them! Definitely a labour of love!
At $5 per cookie she still isn’t even making minimum wage for her time let alone the cost of the ingredients. She said it took her 20 hours to complete them and considering that she was completing 3 cookies per hour. So if she only charges $5/cookie she’s not making minimum wage which I believe she said was $17 something in her area and it’s not covering the cost of her ingredients or all the lovely packaging. At $5 a cookie she is doing it for the love of the process but definitely not getting paid for her time and I doubt that she’s making anything at all when she takes into account her ingredients and the packaging. It’s a shame but hand made custom cookies like this should be $10/cookie which I know makes it only for the elite that could afford them but it’s like everything else hand made there is a significant cost.
$5 a cookie definitely isn't enough, however if I was doing this for my day job I would have to up my prices or buy things to make the process smoother to maintain a cheaper price (for example making a stencil for the letters instead of hand piping them). But if your customer would want those special designs hand piped, you have to make sure to charge for them. If you are just doing it for a side job, and for the love of the process then having some extra cash comes in handy. But it's all about balance and what you want to do with the business whether take to to the next level which I never did or maintain a side gig for when you want to do them! Either or is totally OK too!!
Thank you for this video!! I am relatively new with my baking business and I got so much out of this! You are my favorite cookie RUclipsr, and I intend contributing to help you continue doing these videos for us. I notice you don't bake on parchment or silicone or any type of mat. Are your pans those 'air layer' type? I am also going to try your recipe asap. The fact that you can out 12 on a large sheet and get NO spread would be a game-changer!
Thank you so much for your donation, that was so kind of you ❤️❤️ and thank you, what an honor to be your favorite cookie RUclipsr 🥰 my pans are just regular non stick pans I bought at Michael's, they are Wilton brand and I bought the largest ones I could find! I think they made be cake sheet pans or cookie sheets. But never had issues with them sticking, they usually pop off easily. I've even used an aluminum pan I have and they don't stick either without using anything, but I prefer dark pans so my cookie bottoms get golden! I have this tutorial that might help on what recipe I use and shows the baking sheets as well. And I can sometimes put even more than a dozen with no issues, I ended up putting 16 on a few of the sheets I baked!!

That cookie recipe is definitely a game changer. I always get between 24 to 28 cookies out of every batch. And it taste so goood! Be sure to follow tweets…they add so much flavor to the cookies! And her royal icing’s recipe is perfect. It’s a soft bite icing. I add the cream cheese flavoring and cookie nip to my icing. My customers love them! Wishing you the best!
Yes it is very time consuming. I just recently made some for a church baby shower. I love making them for family and church family❤️
It makes it all worth it when the recipients of the cookies are really special people 🥰🥰 something about making people happy with cookies just warms the heart ❤️ your family and church family are lucky to have you!
i do exactly that. Watching your videos.😀
🥰🥰🥰
Your cookies are SO PRETTY!!!! I just tried decorating some cookies following one of your tutorials and boy was I frazzled and my cookies are SO UGLY! I was trying to do wet on wet but the icing was too stiff. I might try again tomorrow... or maybe I'll just eat the cookies plain and leave the decorating to the experts :) Oh, and half my cookies were raw... sigh. Your cookies are GORGEOUS and I really enjoy watching you work.
Thank you so much!!! But please don't be discouraged!!! I promise you me and everyone else who makes cookies all started in the same place, super defeated frustrated at our first attempt cause they look terrible 😂 but I promise you it gets better! Take pictures of every set, you'll get better and won't even notice until you look back at them. Practice makes it easier and with every mistake you learn what you need to do and it gets easier. The best part is they're cookies, and I'm sure you will never be short of people wanting to eat them!!
To The best cookier on RUclips!
Aww thank you so much 🙏❤️
New to your channel…I struggle with getting the right consistency for writing/decorating ….flooding I’m good with. Do you have videos showing techniques in decorating and getting right consistency. I thought it was only me that took so long to make cookies from start to finish! 😂
No, it's definitely not just you who takes a long time we all do 🤣 ! I usually keep them there while I'm decorating the cookies. So each step I'll out them back in and if they're spending hours and hours and they are dry enough to prevent craters, I'll take them out

Hi. I'm sorry if you covered this, but what's happening to the freshness of the cookies if the process spans several days? Are you storing them in some kind of container to retain freshness? Thank you!
You should make a video explaining all the supplies needed to start off! That would be so helpful for all your beginner followers

I am new to this. What do you use to paint on the gold heart? Did you use Dazzle Dust from your Amazon shop and apply it wet or dry?
Hi! I actually have another gold that I still use as it hasn't run out yet, which is called sunflower sugar art gold. It is not approved in all countries but it was here where I am (but I don't think it was in the US). So Dazzle Dust is a great alternative with the same results that's approved and edible. You mix the powder with alcohol (the higher the alcohol content the better your results). I use Everclear with 90% alcohol and then you paint it on.
I think your prices are good. and your work is so Beautiful too. I don't mind paying for something as nice as your are. I dearly love the cookies that are all Christmas trees and you make Santa, Rudolph, annd Frosty the Snowman, and a regular Tree out of them. I would love to order from you you soon....
Thank you so much ❤️❤️ I appreciate that! Unfortunately I don't sell my cookies anymore I just make them for family and friends!
Thank you for the tips I am just about to start my own business 🎉 I couldn’t find the projector you have in your video on the link provided can you tell me the name of the one you have please 🙏🏻
This is the one I have (the AAXA Pico +), here's a video on it! And the link is here too (it's an Amazon affiliate link), I also have the Kodak one as well, but that one you can't flip your image on the projector, so need to do it in your phone or laptop or it upside down. Both are great options!

I read about cottage food laws that outline requirements to sell cookies in states. Do you need to follow those for your business? And I would appreciate if you could make a video sharing about those prep. steps. Thanks so much!
I'm in Canada and so we don't have those, but I know many States do. There are some cookie Facebook groups that have lots of info on them and people who've been through the process, so that would be a good place to check!
Just curious....your cookies look like they are 1/4" thick???
Did you spray or coat your cookie tray before baking?
Nice to know you're Canadian!!

How do you store your cookies after you’ve flooded them, but before you add the detail work?

Hi Stephanie. Where do I get the projector.? I couldn’t find the info you left. Thanks!!
Hi! This is the video on the projector and the link should be in the description (sometimes you have to push the expand arrow to see it all! ruclips.net/video/XzskrVOifpg/видео.html
I am a beginner so I appreciate your videos. Do you have a link to the dehydrator you use and how long do you put your cookies in there for?
This is the one I use but I think they don't sell this exact model anymore but have a very similar one! If you search Cabela 10 tray it dehydrator, it should give you a similar one. ruclips.net/video/1N1h9Gpn8hs/видео.html
I would like to know what dehydrator machine you use or does it matter? Please and thank you.
I use the Cabela 10 tray one. I'm not sure they have the exact model still but have one that's similar. I think as long as it has a temperature control, it should be fine. Cause you don't want it to be too hot!
How long can we keep decorated cookies on room temperature with raw egg white rotal icing and the will still be safe to eat?
Great video. Can you please share what packing bag you use? I can't find it in your Amazon list. Thank you!

I want to learn how to make cookies like this for my granddaughter she’s just 19mths old now but one day I’d love to show her how to do them. Hopefully I’ll be able to and I sooo appreciate your tips and tricks on how to keep your hands steady if you aren’t the steadiest person in the world which I definitely am not! The only thing I wish is that there was a diabetic version of the Royal icing I think I could make a decent tasting diabetic cookie but with the Royal icing requiring corn syrup I don’t think there’s a way to sub that with something else?
Thank you for all your videos!
Awww that's so sweet!! I'm sure she'd love to grow up making cookies with you! You can definitely leave the corn syrup out, true royal icing doesn't have that in it so it's definitely doable. The icing jsut has a bit of a harder bite but it's still super tasty!!
I see your using a darker cookie sheet. How do you far out with how the bottoms of the cookies look? Could you tell me the brand of the cookie sheet? I would like to know about your dehydrator. I use the recipe that you have and the royal icing recipe. I tried another cookie recipe and my taste testers told me to got back to the one you used first! I learned you don’t mess with a good thing! And as far as the icing….it has not failed me yet! Thank you for sharing!❤
I'm so glad you love the recipes!! And so true, don't mess with a good thing 😁 the dark pans make my cookies nice and golden on the bottom, which I actually prefer because I find it gives it more flavour. Everyone is obsessed with pale looking cookies but honeslty from my testing, the golden ones (with the recipe I use anyways) tastes much better! I figure it's the brown sugar!! They are wilton pans i bought at Michael's (the biggest ones i coule find) . Here's the dehydrator I use but I think they may have discontinued it because I haven't been able to find it for a while. But it gives you an idea of what to look for when buying one ruclips.net/video/1N1h9Gpn8hs/видео.html
Thank you for giving me that info. The company is not far from where I live. And yes the one you hav3 has been discontinued, but they do have another one that is suggested in place of the one discontinued.
Oh that's great to hear!!!
How long do you put them in the dehydrator??
So pretty👍🏻❤️
Thanks!!
Lindos seus trabalhos! ❤❤❤😊😊😊
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
What about food safety labels? Do you add them to every cookie or 1 on a box?
We don't have that where I am in Canada, so you'd have to search up the laws in your area
Do you have a good recipe for these cookies.
Beautiful cookies, your awesome.. Curious how thick you make your cookies?? (1/4” 6mm, 5/16” 8mm or 3/8” 10mm)
Thank you!! I don't really measure, I kind of go by feel, but I would say they are somewhere around 5/16" roughly. I feel like a 1/4" is too thin and 3/8" is better but possibly a bit thick (once baked they rise a bit and plus icing layers makes for a big cookie). But that being said, some of them turn out thicker and thinner in the same batch as I don't use guides to roll.
Ohh ok thank you so much.. just ask cuz all your cookie videos seem like the same thickness
Thank you!! I'm glad they seem that way, but I assure you they're not 😂 but I try my best to make them even but there's always are thinner or thicker ones but no one ever notices!!
In the day you are working on them do you leave them on the counter, freezer, or refrigerator?
You don't want to put them (the cookies) in the fridge or freezer while your working on them, as they need to fully dry out on the counter. But the icing bags, I put in the fridge when I'm not using them!!
Where do you get your stickers and tags? I use Vistaprint but am always on the lookout for less expensive ways! Keep our costs low and profits higher.
I used Vistaprint for both. I find when you order from them they'll give you a discount code or % off so then I'd wait for that or a sale to order more. It's been years since I last ordered though because I bought so many and still have them 🤣. The tags are actually vertical business cards that I cut and hole punch! Way cheaper than buying tags so it saves a lot!!
Great video. But did i miss how much you would charge oer cookie. You did say $3 would be too cheap. So how much is suitable?
It definitely depends on your area, if your starting out $3 would be the minimum I think people should start at. My prices were starting at $4 and then adding to that for gold, or more detailed designs, bagging and bows etc.
I'm making this exact cookie for a friend who is getting married in one week. I started baking on Saturday, outlined Sunday, and flooded Monday and Tuesday. She ordered 70 cookies and I still have about 20 cookies to do (outline and flood). I still have to write their initials and do the heart for each cookie and then package them. This is a lot of work, but I'm learning to pace myself. My question is how long will the cookies keep if I have to continue to do this and do I need to keep them refridgerated? I have only four more days to complete the order (which I will have them ready) so she can pick them up.
Hi! I hope your cookies went well!! The cookies don't need to be refrigerated, it's actually not good to do that because it can cause condensation and ruin the icing a bit. But I usually take about 5- 6 days of decorating and until they are eaten at a party and are totally fine!
@@LittleCookieCo, I’m so happy to know that. All cookies were delivered yesterday and I’m pretty pleased with myself. This was an awesome experience and she loved how my cookies turned out; she was very pleased! I will send you a picture on Facebook so you can see them. Thank you for everything! You’re a fantastic teacher! ♥️
My question is, if it takes several days from baking the cookies to wrapping them, how fresh is the cookie?
They stay fresh for a while! Once they're iced, it almost locks in the freshness. I've never had any issues having them out for a few days!
How long did you make cookies before you started selling? I've had a cluster of personal events that I've planned and brought cookies to and am getting requests to take orders, but it feels too soon. Wondering how long it took to find that confidence ❤
I think it was about a year or year and a half, but I wasn't really making cookies that whole time. I had made a few sets here and there for friends' events and people kept asking if I sell them, so eventually I kind of gave in and did it. It was so nerve-wracking, and my first set took me forever because I wanted it to be really good. Then it was full of craters, and I was so upset. But the customer loved them and I started getting more and more enquiries. It took me a while to get confident though, I'd always be worried someone wouldn't like them. But you know, I think until you actually dive in and start taking orders, you'll never really feel confident. You can make a million free sets for others, but once you start charging, you feel the pressure. But if people are asking you and see your work or have eaten your cookies, then they're asking you for a reason! We are our own worst critics, so I would say if people are asking, and you want to, go for it!
@@LittleCookieCo thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to so many of my questions 😅 And my first year has been made so much more motivating from following your channel!
Aww thank you so much 🥰🥰 I'm really happy to hear that! ❤️
How do you know if you need to use the scribe?
If your icing doesn't look smoothe, you can use it to smoothe it out!
How long does cookie dough last in fridge,? Can it be frozen? If so, sny tips on thawing?
I would say no more than a day in the fridge in the freezer a few months! I usually try and squish the dough flat and wrap in saran wrap or ziploc bags, it stacks easier in the freezer and it thaws a lot quicker!!
Your cookies are worth more than you're giving yourself credit for. I know others who are getting 5 or 6 dollars per cookie and 5 to 8 $ per cupcake. Don't sell yourself short.
Thank you!! $3 is where I started and I know a lot of people start around there so I wanted to use that as an example. I've upped my prices later on but I do not sell them anymore. I would definitely charge 6-7 for these as they were quite labour intensive!
Can I ask how do you keep the cookies after you have flood/dry them?
I usually leave them out on the counter overnight to fully dry, or in my dehydrator with the door fully open for air circulation but have it off. Once they are fully dry, you can bag them or put them in an airtight container to keep fresh!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
How long do you keep them in the dehydrator?
They're usually in there most of the time I'm decorating. The heat is very low so it's equal to having a soft fan on them for a few hours. I usually flood one by one and put them in, then by the time I'm done ill go back to the first one, take it out and start my details and then put it back in. Once I'm done for the night, they're usually semi dry, so I turn it off and leave the door open and pull the trays out slightly for more air and leave them like that til I decorate again!
what brand is the mixer
It's KitchenAid
What thickness is the cookie rolled out to?
I usually do around 5/8th give or take
Where do you get your tags and stickers?
From Vista print!
@@LittleCookieCo Thank you!!
The tags are also just vertical business cards and I cut them to look like tags!! Much cheaper to buy them this way 😊
@@LittleCookieCo Ahhhh!! Thank you so much for the info because I will be ordering business cards from there soon and this is a big help! I have a tag cutter somewhere too 😁
Oh perfect!!!
So....how much would you have charged?
For these, if I did sell them I'd charge probalt charge 6-7 dollars per cookie. Because of the packaging I would do $7 but without bags and bows $6.
@@LittleCookieCo Boom! Time is money, baby. 😁
Exactly!!
Where are your business . Can I order cookies from you
Thank you, but I do not sell cookies. These were a gift!
You didn’t tell us what you would charge for these as you said in the beginning of the video
It really depends on location, but foe me here, I would charge $6-$7 for these. I think without packaging (bag and bows) it would be $6 and then with bags $7
@@LittleCookieCo Thank you and thank you for your prompt reply also.
You're welcome!!
In these days if you can afford to pay for a wedding you can afford to pay for a $7 dollar cook times 60...especiLly these tasty pearls !!
Aww thank you 🥰🥰
Why did you stop your cookie business if i May ask.
I kind of fell into selling cookies, like most people I started doing them for fun and then people started asking me for orders. I had a full time job, so i was mostly doing orders late at night after my child was in bed. As I started getting more and more orders, it was hard to say no and I ended up taking on too much most of the time. It was hard to balance both and after I had my 2nd child I just couldn't do it anymore. I was tempted to try it full time but with a young family and cost of living soaring where I live I felt like it would be best to stay at my full time job. I did miss doing them, so I do them once in a while for family or close friends but as gifts. But I would get lots of questions about how to make cookies, so I found a passion of helping others on how to make them! So I still get to make cookies, but only when I want 😁
@@LittleCookieCo thank you for responding first of all ♥️ you & your talent is truly admirable I must say!! This is totally understandable!! I am a first time mom and wanted to help bring income working from home so I started my small cookie business and your videos have helped me so much! I always share I got the sugar cookie recipe and royal icing recipe from you specifically bc no way I could take credit so thank you very much for that! I have also learned a lot from your other videos! Thank you for creating this content for us 💗
Aww thank you so much ❤️🥰 and I can't take credit for the cookie recipe (that's all Lilaloa) just put a few tweaks on it. It's tough with a little one around so kudos to you! My first was good, he never touched my cookies and slept reasonably well, but my 2nd was a terrible sleeper and when I tried to do cookies at night, he'd never let me! And even to this day he always tries to sneak a bite of the cookies so I always have to watch him 🤣. Just make sure you charge your worth! Don't be scared to up your prices if you need to or charge extra for details!! There's always people that will pay for your talent 🥰
I’m like you as far as the time used to decorate them. Even though it’s just me and my dog, I find I do my best work at nighttime. And that with any treats I do.
Yes!! I'm always more productive late at night 🤣
I'm curious, where do you live that the minimum wage is $17? Your margins must be so so tight!
I'm on the West Coast of Canada. Everything has gone up in price so much recently, so you have to raise your prices as well if you want to make money. It's about attracting the right clients that will pay a premium price for a premium product.
@@LittleCookieCo yes...for some reason, I thought you were in the States. Your talent is so evident and I'm sure you have a following!
Most of my audience is in the US, so most people think I'm from there 😊
Why do you only charge $3.00 per cookie? That’s. Crazy! You’re doing all that work & not making enough profit to even buy your supplies.
That's what I started charging for cookies but now I would charge at least 4-5 dollars to start for basic cookies. I just want people to realize how much effort and money go into making cookies and if you charge too little your not doing yourself any favors!
So you didn’t actually say how much you charge? Wasn’t that the point of the video?
I talk about it at the very end these ended up being gifts but I say roughly how much I'd charge if they weren't and what to take into consideration when pricing your cookies
Wow, not worth the time, however good for you.
You just have to make sure you charge your worth! And it's also a hobby of mine so I don't mind spending time on it!
JESUS LOVES YOU. HE WANTS TO SAVE YOU, COME TO HIM.
