      Great, I will update in my next video that the don't necessarily need the cold spell and I am bringing mine in today instead of waiting the week. I was reading the website for the New Zealand Delphs and they say nothing on cold stratification so maybe this variety doesn't need it.

      You are so welcome! I went back and looked at their instructions and they don't have you cold stratify so I am going to bring in my tray and put it on my light rack today. So I will address that in my next video. Just so you know. I hope they grow as well for you as they have for me. I would have huge stands of them all around my garden if the gophers hadn't eaten them. This batch will be planted in cages or raised beds with protective wire under them.

    I had the gnats returned when I started lettuce. It went out the door and sprayed the soil of remaining plants with insecticides soap as I can’t handle that mess again. Couldn’t believe it worked. I have sticky traps also.
    I seen one of the larvae😮 it was huge! I can see that they were eating roots and suspect that’s why the propagation cuttings weren’t doing much.
    I will try seeding delphs inside soon. Tried in WS last couple years and was a no go. I’m sure they must be tiny like foxgloves.
    Thanks!

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад +1

      I forgot about using DE on my plant seedlings for the gnats. I may have to get some soon and try it again so that the ones that are infested don't infect my ones that had been sterilized. Glad the soap worked for you!

    • @dustyflats3832
      @dustyflats3832 7 месяцев назад

      @@FlowerPatchFarmhouse my thoughts about DE is once it’s wet it no longer works. The larvae are soft bodied and if they don’t come to surface on dry DE I don’t think it would affect them. Don’t know as I’ve never tried it, just bits of info I remembered.
      I just know I can’t have those things flitting about again-and aphids.
      My husband had a great idea! I was going to use the grill and get some recyclable aluminum roasting pans to heat the soil. He said we need a new Nesco pan insert and why not use the old one and heat soil in Nesco? Perfect!! 🤩 and I can set it outside. I’m thinking to spritz the soil with water (for steam) and cook at about 200*F for about 20+ minutes or so and that should cook the nasties!😂
      Love the video and was just drooling over NZ website. Was watching her vid on starting seeds also. I think if I just cover with clear lid and skip newspaper it should work. If I can get petunias to grow then these should 😜 I hope.

    Hello, I got successful germination of delphinium (and lavender) in a jiffy starter kit using pellets. They are under grow light. When should I remove the humidity dome: when most sprouted or are at least a certain height? Thanks

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  5 месяцев назад +1

      Once you have germination I would remove it. And place a fan near on low to gently blow across them, this will help deter wilt which is caused by a fungus that they are very susceptible to. I use this fan: www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-Gardens-New-8-inch-Retro-3-Speed-Metal-Tilted-Head-Oscillation-Table-Fan-Mint/647657051
      I have it in mint and pink, I like the look of it and I can set it on low with it oscillating near my seedlings for that air circulation.

    Do you know how to get rid of gnats around my seed starter planter? I did not know about the boiling water trick but they've already started growing.

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  5 месяцев назад

      I just starting using Diatomaceous Earth, food grade, sprinkled on top of my trays already started. Usually watering with mosquito bits water does the job but this time it wasn't enough. I have heard using insecticidal soap will also work but I have not tried that one. I did use horticultural oil but that didn't do the job. For the adults using the yellow sticky traps works well but you need something with it to get the damaging larvae.

    I noticed you do not label anything. You moved the square tray of delphinium so possibly turned the square. Do you just know what the leafs look like?

      I have numbers on the tray for each row and I have a written list of which one is planted where that I keep in my garden journal. And yes, I do know what the leaves look like, after 40 years of starting seeds and gardening you get the hang of it.
