Aww, I’m glad you like the writing … I have a hard time learning just by listening but seeing the words helps reinforce the knowledge in my head and simplifies the idea or though that I’m trying to teach.
Always love your videos! Thank you for another great one! We still have about 16" of snow here in Maine! I've done a little winter sowing and thinking about doing Snapdragons. I think they will do good. Great info today!
Beautiful, colorful snapdragons. Love all the snapdragons that you planted. Can’t wait to see them once they bloom. It’s good to share growing plants with your friends. Gives you some plants that maybe you would not grow.
Best video so far on the nitty gritty of starting snappies by seed. I love that you got to the point without a lot of fluff of unimportant talk. I like that you pointed out the lighting situation and avoiding leggy seedlings. When to pinch them off. I found you knowledgeable and articulate. Thanks for pointing out difference of using potting soil vs seed starting soil and the water requirement. Temp. requirement. etc. Thank you very much.
Zone 7a starting snapdragons early this week coming. Loving the snapdragons this year! Really like all of the information your give on your videos. Looking forward to the pinching video. Thanks.
Thank you again. I had an early bloom from a volunteer snapdragon and allowed a couple of stalks to go to seed. Took those seeds last week and seeded them and they already germinated. So exciting. Absolutely love snaps. Looking forward to your seedling update. Cause I make sure that I am on the right track with mine.
Thank you! Now I know why some of my snapdragons were bent. This year, I'll do a better job of corralling them. I did want to say that I've been doing the dry to wet bottom watering thing using seed starting mix and it has worked fine as far as I can tell. I mean, I may yet lose all my seedlings, but they are ok so far. Snapdragons are super easy to root. If you wait to pinch them until they are a little bigger, you can root the pinched part and have twice the snapdragons.
Thanks for a great video, snaps are one of my favorite flowers, I started some of those varieties from seed a few days ago, looking forward to the next update on them, happy gardening, Ann🙂
This year I put my snap seeds in the fridge and they did germinate better. I will definitely experiment more with chilling seeds. I have been gardening for about 5 years so I am still learning. I live a couple hours east of you so I am always curious to how your plants do. Lol. I have started costa summer lavender 3, madam butterfly bronze with white, Potomac apple blossom & Potomac royal. I love snapdragons!
Excellent content. I didn't know about the different types of snapdragons and different growing conditions. Last winter I tried snapdragons from seed using the outdoor winter sowing method (zone 7b). They took a long time to germinate and weren't ready to plant in garden untilheat of the summer. They survived the summer and in fall I got a few blooms. I left them in over the winter and now they look very robust. Hoping I get some flowers. Don't have any idea what variety they were but after watching your video I think I would do best with the fall planted varieties.
Thank you so much for this video! I am hoping to do snapdragons this year and now I know I need to start the seed ASAP!! I am finding your videos very interesting because I live in North TX, zone 7b/8a, closer to Wichita Falls than DFW. I think our zones are similar for growing many plants, though my area is more arid, and the soil is slightly alkaline. I did want to say regarding "cold stratification," I understand now, stratification requires moisture. Seeds stored in a fridge are not being cold stratified unless they are in contact with a moist medium, such as in a wet paper towel or some damp sand, starting mix or potting soil. If that's wrong please let me know. I do store my all my seeds in a refrigerator year round trying to get them to last longer. Thank you again! I will be watching!
My snapdragons look incredible thanks to your advice in the fall!! I killed them at least 3 times before that 😂!! Happy Friday 🎉Kristen is lucky gal :)
Daniel from Northlawn Flower Farm RUclips channel takes the snapdragon pinched back tips and pops them in soil to start more. You can also do this with coleus.
Oh wow! Those petunias are doing great and it seems the rest of yours are doing well too! I’ve never tried snapdragons but maybe it’s time. 😁 So would you recommend trying the 1-2 seeds now for a better outcome? Thanks Amanda! Another great video!
I suggest getting a package for each of the groups if it is in your budget. Start them all at the same time and see which group gives you the best results in your garden.
I just came across this. You mentioned to keep the humidity dome closed, will that be closed the whole time ? Also how long under the grow lights? How many days, and how often ? Thank you.
I keep the humidity dome on until 60% of the seeds have germinated and then I remove it. My seedlings are under grow lights for 16 hours a day … I leave them that way until I am ready to plant them outside.
I’m a little confused. 😊 Can all 4 groups of snapdragons be started now? I had my seeds separated in groups thinking I started group 1 first followed by the other groups in succession.
It really depends on your area. They can be direct sown but I prefer inside so that I can control the conditions and get better germination rates. If you decide to direct sow, wait until after your last frost date.
Hi I live in a Cool climate in norway, here it is common knowledge that snapdragons should not germinate on heat mats, they will not germinate well, they germinate better without heatmats.
Finally a zone 8 Gardner making content that appeals to me. I so appreciate your growing advice. You are giving me such confidence.
So nice of you!
Right! Me too!!!!
So true
I don’t remember if I told you that your hand writing is beautiful. Mine is all over the place, while yours is so even.
Aww thanks!
The Madame Butterfly Bronze is my favourite. I love how you have the writing on the screen it really helps. ❤

Yes.. your content is very realistic. I am in Zone 8B.. plus you are just a happy person to watch and flowers excite you!
Wow, thank you!
I am trying snapdragons again, I think I got two last year, but you are so inspiring!! Thank you for all that you are doing to help us!!
You can do it!

Great video. Will love to see the video related to pinching snaps back. Thx
Coming soon!
Zone 7a starting snapdragons early this week coming. Loving the snapdragons this year! Really like all of the information your give on your videos. Looking forward to the pinching video. Thanks.

Wonderful! Don’t you love when you collected the seeds yourself and the produced new plants?!?!?
I love snapdragons!! Thanks for the video looking forward for your next video.
Thanks for watching!
I love all the info you provide in your videos--I learn so much and I have been gardening for years.
Wonderful!
Love the chosen snapdragons, I’m in zone 7 a beginner Gardner, will definitely love to try growing snapdragons. Thanks
Good luck! You’ll do great!

I love snap dragons they're beautiful
Same ❤️
😊thank you. Love Snapdragon.

I didn't know that snapdragon varieties needed different growing conditions. Thanks for that info.
You bet!
Very informative video. You do a fine job of explaining your process.

Mine do best when started and planted in the fall, so since yours have overwintered, I bet you are going to get some beautiful flowers!

Yes adding moisture helps especially if your fridge is very dry!
Cool
Thanks!

Yay! So happy they worked for you in the fall!

Good lord your penmanship is beautiful...meanwhile i cant read half the chicken scratch i write.😮
😂 I write a lot of things down because it helps me remember better … my handwriting has gotten better since I write so much.
Im doing winter sow for most of my snaps❤
Awesome!
Where did you get the garden journal? I love it!
It’s a Happy Planner … I have a video coming up soon about it!

@@shesamadgardener Wonderful, thank you. I learn a lot from you.
When you say Cold Stratification, do you ALWAYS mean, on a moist Paper towel, in a bag, and put in the fridge? Thanks for clearing this up. 😊
Sometimes I just toss the seeds in the fridge … my fridge has some humidity … that might not be the best practice but it’s worked for me.
Thank you for explaining "true leaves" that has always confused me
Happy to help!
I started WAY too many snapdragons last year for my small garden. This year only one!
I always start a bunch of them!
I'm with you @sarahfrost4927 watching you Amanda has made my confidence grow by leaps and bounds in the garden. Thank you so much!!!!!
Aww thanks!
I planted out snaps in the fall but I’be got some that germinated inside too. None of them took off last year 😢
Hopefully your fall planted ones overwintered and you will have blooms this spring!
What about the Potomac verities? What would you categorize it as? Group 3 or 4?
They are group 3-4 … you will see that a lot of the varieties are categorized in two groups.

I have a few different seed packets but I haven’t seen any of them calling out a “group”
Yep, it’s not often listed on the packets.
I’m a little confused. 😊 Can all 4 groups of snapdragons be started now? I had my seeds separated in groups thinking I started group 1 first followed by the other groups in succession.
Yes you can! Start all of them now!
What about sweet peas? I’m in zone 8 and poss a neighbor. Any ideas?
I have not had enough success with sweet peas yet to be able to teach about them but maybe this fall!
🙏🌱🌱☀️
🥰
I can’t tell you how many packs of snaps I have that have no ‘group’ info. Why is this? And what group should we assume they might be?
I have no idea why this info is not included on the packages … but you can Google your variety to find out what group it is in!
@@shesamadgardener …yes, I actually HAVE done that, but there is still a shortage of information on MANY varieties. So very frustrating.
🌈👒🌱
Ooo, I love the hat emoji!
Can I direct sow these or do I need to start them indoors?
It really depends on your area. They can be direct sown but I prefer inside so that I can control the conditions and get better germination rates. If you decide to direct sow, wait until after your last frost date.
@@shesamadgardener I’m in zone 6a. But I don’t have any more room to start plants inside!
Hi I live in a Cool climate in norway, here it is common knowledge that snapdragons should not germinate on heat mats, they will not germinate well, they germinate better without heatmats.
Agreed!
What if you don't have a light. What do I do then?
You need a light for these to grow! A window won’t work because it’s not enough light for long enough.
