I think for now I'm gonna take the easy road and buy an already growing plant (Because I live in a small apartment with 2 littles ones and I've never been good at growing plants) ps I'm 49 and the only plant I've ever personally owned was a "Snake Plant" I think it was called!

What a smart cat. He didn’t step in a single hole 😁 thanks so much for the info. None of the snaps I bought mentioned a series name. Just the color variety. Or “mixed tall”. I was so pleased when last years snaps actually grew back (zone 5a) but I didn’t get great stems with tons of flowers. Actually they hardly flowered at all. I probably would have eventually given up on snaps. But now I KNOW what kind to buy. Thanks!!!!

I wish I had seen this earlier. I planted...oh 10 seeds per cell! They were so small. I'll try to split some out and see how that goes and others, I'll snip off the weakest ones. Now I know for next year. Thanks.

I tried them last year and failed 😩 I'm going to try again this year with much more research beforehand so hopefully I will be more successful. Your video is very informative and will be a huge help 😊
Confirming that I am not crazy. My first time with Snapdragon. I did the same thing, a pinch in each cell. I used the same 72 tray. I don't plan on separating them. Just thin to 1 per cell. So 72 plants from $2 of seed and $2 of seed starting mix is ok. I assume that I might have to transfer to a larger cell container but I have plenty from over the years and should be an easy process. I find the small 72 cell trays works great for marigolds. I'll grow several hundred dollars worth of plants for under $15 in seed and starting mix. Trays and lights have been paid for over the years. Elect is minimal with led lights.

They’re planted 4” apart because that’s what makes them grow tall, long stems. We do give them a pinch when they’ve grown at least 4” tall.
You use seed starting mix, not potting soil in the tray you transfer the seedlings to? Also, I noticed you don’t have bottom trays under the seed tray. I’m going to go start my snaps now. I enjoyed your informative video, thank you.

OH, I wished I seen this about a month ago. I did the wet tooth pick- 1 seed per cell- so disappointed 72 tray only had 15 germ. And the seeds were expensive too. I plan of reseeding- with a multi colored variety.....wished I had kept some of the expensive seeds. :(

Do you put a grow light? Mine are by the window but they seem kinda weak
The snapdragon seeds I have bought in the UK only have 30 or 50 seeds (Liberty and Chantilly range) and are expensive. I have to be careful planting them so sadly I use the cocktail stick method.

😩 I have to spend the time only putting 1-2 per cell because if I put more than 2 I'll waste so much time separating & transplanting & trying to grow every single one on until it's time to try to squeeze them all into the garden & I realize there's no way! (Even though I already knew that because I planned out every square inch of my garden) 😆 I finally have the strength 💪to sow 2 per cell and cut back one if both germinate because I got tired of having so many empty cells from low germ rates!
Thank you for this video. I did get much better germination multi sowing, but they are growing soooo slow! How long between germination and pricking out?
They’ll take the 8-10 days to germinate, then I’d let them grow for another two weeks before splitting them up.

We harden off and plant before pinching. I usually wait for them to get at least 4 inches tall before I do it.

I have no greenhouse so I've been very unsuccessful growing anything from seed. But I've had good success growing things from cuttings, including Gaillardia, Coreopsis, etc. Can Snapdragons be grown from cuttings?

I have been looking for detailed information about this beautiful flower for a long time, because I bought a package and it seemed interesting to try this. I went back when I opened the package and I could see that tiny seed, I said God! and now what's next with this? I searched and searched and found nothing, so my instinct was to put water in a cup, and pour them all in there, I put a container with starter soil and with a spoon I grabbed the seeds floating in the water and that's how I watered them in the home land. Now they have grown excellent, but, they are all together. I appreciate being stubborn and continuing to look through the videos, I knew someone, someone, someone would take the time to carefully explain this process. I finally found you and now I will stay on your precious channel. Greetings from Tulsa, Oklahoma, hoping to one day have my own farm of beautiful flowers to beautify my garden. Okay. I wrote a whole book but I needed to tell you lol. Thank you! You can dome them to help with germination, but it’s not required. 💗🌸
What germination rate should we expect with snapdragon seeds. The only online reference I could find (an old reference) said 50 percent.

We do not. We spring sow all our plants. We have heavy vole pressure so it can be a struggle for us but we've been able to work well with spring sowing

I am trying to figure out the best time to plant my snapdragons outside. If I plant them outside with the chance of frost in the coming weeks, do you think I should cover with a frost cloth and then they would survive? I really think I need to get them out of the trays, they seem to have stopped growing. They have several sets of leaves, but they are still so small.
Yes! They’re very cold hardy.
@@PepperHarrow I will plant them outside this week. If I see a chance of frost, I will cover them. That's what I have been doing with my foxgloves I planted outside.

when you say 4 leaves, do you mean 4 sets? or 4 leaves in total? this is my first year adding flowers to my veggie garden and I've always loved snap dragons. I planted the seeds just like you recommend and they all sort of just exploded up! I definitely put way more than 5 seeds in each cell on accident and I'm just wondering when I should move them to their own cells or put them in a bigger pot? they have 2 'sets' of leaves, so 4 leaves in total.

What zone are you guys? And what is the lowest temp they can endure outside and live?
We’re zone 5B. Snaps will take quite a bit of cold, but we haven’t tested exactly how much for how long. They will survive below freezing temps, which is why they’re a good early one to start.
I'm in 6b and my snaps lived through my winter. Sometimes night time temps dip below zero here, but usually our coldest is 0-10 degrees..we get quite a bit of snow. They didn't self-seed, these were the actual plants I planted that survived. I got a random variety from a store. The packet said Madame Butterfly (I think) but so far, I haven't really gotten those sturdy cut flower worthy stems. Probably because they're not planted in the sunniest spot. They get sun from about sun rise until 2pm.
How far apart are your six inch fabric holes from each other - what is your burn hold grid for snapdragons?
The holes are 6” apart. The actual holes are only 3” wide
