    Love the orange painting!
    What if you dump out the grow medium into a pan and wet it and replace back into the cells$

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад

      I am thinking of mixing it with some potting soil and putting it back into the cells, maybe half and half. Another commenter recommended mixing it with perlite in a container and soaking it in a container then reloading in the cells. I may try that too.

      I am so glad you are enjoying it all. My girls are really laying a lot of eggs lately so I must be treating them right. I wish I could let them out to roam more but the last time I did that one of my Olive Eggers went missing. Next day I spotted a pair of coyotes roaming around so I have not doubt they got her. Glad you are getting some hollyhocks from your neighbor, how sweet of him to start you some.

    I have two of those hydrophobic seed starting trays to plant seeds. I think I will dump the soil into a bucket and dry to moisten the soil that way--with warm water and dab of non-bacterial, nor natural dish soap. I have 50 winter sown jugs so far. Indiana 6a. Your coneflower painting is very good. The darker green background makes the flower head standout. Hope you are feeling better soon. Thx

      Todays video I share how I tackle that stubborn seed starting mix in that tray. It has worked great and for me was easiest. Thank you for your kind words on my painting, I think if I varnish it that will help the colors for me.

    I started my geraniums this way. Put them in a ziplock bag in a wet paper towel and sat them on my bottom seed starting shelf in semi-darkness. On the 3rd day transplanted the sprouts to cells. All 36 seeds germinated and now I have 36 geraniums to pot up and find a place to put them! Lol I will have to give delphiniums a try.

      I love starting geraniums from seed, it works so well. I restrained myself this year as I had so many last year I ran out of pots and just gave away tons.

    I think the background of the echinacea is pretty. It makes the flower pop. You will probably need to mix that seed starting mix with your potting soil to get it to rehydrate. Just dump into your big round pan and get your hands dirty…😊

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much and I wish you success with winter sowing. Just know that some years are better than others as they are really subject to the weather. Last year was a flop for me because we got so much snow (9 feet) that it smashed all my containers and they opened up which damaged everything. This year we have been getting mostly rain with a smattering of snow here and there so I have high hopes that it will be much more successful.

  • @dustyflats3832

    For those of us who know what damage gnat larvae can do we will continue to cook the eggs 😅
    I recently had seen a larvae ready to become an adult-its was huge! Got rid of them in all plants. Used insecticidal soap. The M Bits will need to be scraped off as they are molding.
    Just seen a video by a prominent creator that states sterilized soil is not necessary and they were growing in a GH. The larvae will eat outside as well as inside and I can’t handle them flitting about everywhere so I will bake the buzzards.
    Wow, that soil was dry! I should get started today, been waiting. A bit of snow tonight and the back to upper 30s and 40s.

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад

      I use only the water from the mosquito bits (when I take the time to make it) and strain off the actual bits as they do mold and are so yucky when they do! Well, sometimes I get lazy and don't treat the soil and I pay for it.

    Do the gophers eat your Delphinium? Trying to decide where to put mine

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад +1

      YES! They seem to have decimated several of mine so last year the ones I got started I planted into the ground in larger pots, 2 gallon size like I did the Lilies in this video: ruclips.net/video/WtF6hNStGlw/видео.htmlsi=mZEBqAeAlMT7w6Dg
      Or you can create a gopher cage for them or buy them. I need to put a link in the description box for some cages that were reasonably priced on Amazon and they have worked well for me, definitely easier than making them yourself.

    Do you know if delphiniums need darkness to germinate? because I've heard people say it but the seed packets never say so and I always have a hard time with them

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад +2

      No, as mine have germinated just fine with light. Here are the instructions straight from the Delphinium website: "Keep in an airy, light place." So I that is a 'no, they don't need darkness.'
