    I have seen so many utube gardeners adding that fertilizer to their planting hole ,
    I myself have never done that one reason was cost , glad to hear i didn't need it

      Yes, bad habits can be encouraged so easily especially if it a popular channel or blog. I hope this helps a lot of folks not only save money but get better results in their gardens.

      Happy to hear that! Thank you, I do try and be informative for everyone to help them have their best garden yet and save them $$$ along the way. I remember being newly married with not an extra cent to spend and being able to start a garden was important to me so I know it is to many others, especially with prices getting higher and higher.

    Hey thanks! It's like you already knew all the questions I had

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад

      Great! Many have these questions so I thought it was time but this also puts me out of the running to get a brand deal with them as many garden youtubers would like to do. I just can't, in good conscience, push something that I know won't benefit you and is really a waste of $$. But to be fair, many new gardeners that are starting to put videos on RUclips don't know any better as they are following popular channels that use it all the time and they think that is what you need to do.

    Pam, this is great practical info as usual. Have you seen the new seed starting trays with silicone bottoms? I ordered some and can't wait to try them out. Pricy, but look pretty durable. The holes in the bottoms concern me as they are quite large, hoping soil doesn't fall out. I can just see my husband's face when he sees me microwaving soil lol

      I use the trays that have the silicon bottoms from Burpee, I have shown them in a video or two. In fact one of the videos with my pouring the boiling water through the soil is one of them. I was worried a bit about the silicon but it held up fine. I get mine from Wal-Mart or Tractor Supply. I have had my original ones I I bought 2 years ago and they are some of my favorites. Which ones did you get?

    Pam, love your channel. When do you lay down compost ? I'm in Laguna Niguel-clay soil

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад

      I add compost in the Fall and in the Spring, I use it many times and a mulch instead of the shredded bark. I will also add it on top of a newly planted plant as a mulch, but only an inch or two deep. A little goes a long way. But I do have a good source for good quality compost from the local organic turkey farm so that helps and creating it from my own chickens.

    I’m wondering how cold your green house gets. I see you have many plants that would not survive in my unheated green house in zone 6 b in MO.

      My greenhouse gets as cold as it does outside. A couple weeks ago we were getting down to 19 degrees. So it gets quite cold.

    How long do you need to microwave soil to sterilize it? I imagine how much you do at one time will make a difference. What about the regular oven?

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад

      2 minutes is usually recommended in the microwave, mine is 1200 watts. In the oven it is 180 degrees for 30 minutes.

    Pamula,
    What r your thoughts on Espoma products? Bio tone exactly. Good in pots but wasre of money in landscape?

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад +1

      I don't use it in either, I prefer a liquid feed (listed in the description box) for my pots if they need some feed and I never add anything when first planting in containers as the potting soil I use has plenty in it to last for awhile. The one I use, Ednas Best by EB Stone has all the ingredients like bat quano, feather meal, chicken manure etc and adding more is pointless. If you want to stimulate growth I prefer using the Organic REV, it isn't a feed but a biostimulant.

      Thank you! I appreciate your feedback. You are very knowledgeable! I'll check into Organic Rev and Edna's Best. Never heard of either.

    Don’t most organic fertilizers that one would use to top dress in spring included bone meal as well? Do you not use those either?

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  7 месяцев назад

      I don't use those either. I compost regularly and typically that is plenty to keep the soil happy and healthy but if I do think things need a boost I give them this and there is no bone meal added: bit.ly/3PrFd8p

      Thank you for this video! Since I started gardening 8 years ago, I have always used compost or cow manure only. My plants look healthy. The only time I use fertilizer is for my containers
